"Yes. Dominic Carter. Isn't that his name?" Shantel asked, clearly puzzled. "What's going on?"
"There's nothing going on. Richard is clearly over thinking things," Dominic said, quickly darting a glance at Shantel, silently pleading with her not to say anything more.
Richard caught the silent exchange, which caused his suspicion to deepen.
He could smell a rat a hundred miles away and if he'd suspected that something was off before, now he was sure.
He narrowed his eyes. "You just got back into the country and I've been friends with you long enough to know that Shantel has never been one of your acquaintances," he said slowly. "So I'll ask you again—How exactly do you know Shantel?"
Dominic hesitated, then gave a careless shrug. "We met… recently."
"Recently?" Richard narrowed his eyes. "Funny. You never mentioned that."
