Zain sat on the edge of the bed, his eyes calm but focused.
After a moment, he turned to Velra.
"By the way," he said, "where's Reval?"
Velra stood nearby, arms crossed and relaxed. "I killed him," she said.
Zain looked at her. "You did?"
"He wasn't useful anymore," she added.
"I already pulled everything I needed from his head."
Zain nodded once. "I see."
He stood up and stretched his arms a little.
"Now tell me," he said, "where's my room?"
Velra tilted her head slightly. "You want to rest?"
Zain shook his head. "No. I have something to do. Something personal."
Velra nodded and gestured with her hand. "Come, I'll show you."
Zain followed her down a long hallway.
The walls were made of black stone, cracked with glowing red lines.
Heat drifted through the corridor, but it didn't bother either of them.
Velra walked in front, her heels clicking softly against the floor.
"Do you want the upper chamber or something deeper?" she asked.
