Chapter 42 - Breaking Tension

They kept walking. When Anna had spoken, her words were heavy. None of them knew what to say. It was like all of them were walking on eggshells, not wanting to cause her more emotional stress. Her emotions were raw, wearing down on them like an immovable weight. Justin coughed, clearing his throat before speaking.

"So... What is the first thing you plan on attempting to craft since you have the kit?" (Justin)

That was, in the simplest way, the most obvious change in subject that any of them could tell. However, it allowed Anna's posture to soften before she spoke. Her voice sounded tired but not so emotionally raw as she wiped away the tears from her eyes.

"I figured a belt would be the simplest thing to learn how to make." (Anna)

"Well, there are five of us, so all of us could use the belts you can complete." (Justin)

Anna had a slight quirk in her lip, a smile forming.

"Thanks." (Anna)

"You know what I'm going to say it. Fucking hell I hated that monster. I never thought I would say this but I would rather deal with the dragon than that thing." (Kyle)

"That is not wrong, but seriously, did you have to say that out loud?" (Mark)

Mark hissed his words under his breath to Kyle as he looked at Kyle with a disapproving stare. Anna heard Mark, but she could wholeheartedly agree with what Kyle said. Because she, too, would rather deal with the dragon than anything like that creature.

"I have to agree." (Anna)

"Honestly fuck both of those monsters one is simple to kill but is a brain fuck. The other is hard to kill and terrifying." (Justin)

Mark looked at his brother and Kyle like they had neither tact nor common sense.

"You know what I'm curious about? When did that dragon show up? I hadn't seen a dragon where we were, so I didn't think something like that would appear." (Anna)

"Honestly, I have to agree." (Greyson)

"Well, it's not a long story." (Mark)

"I think it is more interesting to start from the beginning." (Kyle)

"We are not starting from the top." (Mark)

"You have no tact nor flair for the dramatics." (Kyle)

"I would say you're dramatic, but that is inherent to your being." (Mark)

"You wound me." (Kyle)

"I can wound you if you wish." (Mark)

"Don't try murdering each other, please. I don't want to have to dig any graves today." (Justin)

"Hey, it will only be him dying, not the other way around." (Mark)

"And that, my dear brother, is why there would have to be two graves." (Justin)

"I feel like I just got insulted." (Mark)

"You did." (Greyson, Anna)

"That was abrupt, but fine if he wishes to play a theatrical performance, I choose not to take part." (Mark)

"You're boring but fine beside, so you would make it seem less interesting if you get involved." (Justin)

"You know, when you speak like that, your face seems very punchable." (Mark)

"Punchable? I think you mean handsome." (Kyle)

"Man, just hearing you say that made me want to hit you in the face." (Greyson)

"Gang up on me, why don't you?" (Kyle)

"You did it to yourself." (Justin)
