Chapter 278 - Chapter 278: The Basilisk Vs Wade Reynolds

And yet, after this indirect "eye contact" with the Basilisk, they could still feel a deadly sense of threat.

This alone showed just how terrifying the curse carried by the Basilisk's eyes truly was.

After crawling out of the opening, the Basilisk immediately began scanning its surroundings, searching for the Slytherin heir who had awakened it.

But because Tom had already retreated to safety and hidden himself, the Basilisk found no one who matched the conditions of Slytherin's descendant.

At the same time, it was clearly puzzled as well. Why were these people still alive after meeting its gaze?

However, the Basilisk was never particularly intelligent to begin with. After sleeping for so many years and only just awakening, all it felt was overwhelming hunger.

That intense hunger made it abandon any further thought.

Since these people were not Slytherin's descendants, it would simply eat them.

"Hiss~~<<" The Basilisk reared its head and let out a shrill roar before charging straight at them.

Among everyone present, Wade was the first to react, his reflexes sharp as a cat's.

Just as Dumbledore began to shout a warning, Wade had already rushed to the front. As he surged forward, he swung his wand sharply upward.

A thick wall of ice burst up from the ground, rising directly in front of the group.

Bang!

The Basilisk slammed headlong into the ice wall. Ice shards flew everywhere.

Its venomous fangs left deep gouges in the ice, and green poison began to corrode the surface relentlessly.

Everyone felt a chill run through them. If that venom were to touch a human wound…

At that moment, the Basilisk was left slightly dazed from the impact.

Just as it recovered and prepared to go around the ice wall, the pooled water around the chamber suddenly transformed into streams of water serpents, which shot forward and coiled rapidly around its massive body.

In the next instant, the liquid water serpents scattered and transformed into a cage of sharp ice spikes, locking the Basilisk firmly in place.

Hisssssss~~~~~~~~<<<<<

The Basilisk twisted violently, and although the ice spikes were eventually crushed by its immense strength, they were unbelievably hard. Even so, its body was pierced by numerous wounds before they shattered.

Wade's wand never paused. He swung it forcefully once more.

The ice wall that had been shielding everyone suddenly rose and reshaped itself into a towering ice giant.

The ice giant lifted its arm and slammed a fist into the Basilisk's eye socket.

Buzz!

The Basilisk, already reeling, felt its head spin even more violently.

But the Basilisk reacted quickly as well. The moment it sensed the ice giant grabbing its neck, it snapped its head around and bit straight into the giant's body.

Dark green venom instantly stained half of the snow-white ice giant.

Wade was shocked. This Basilisk felt different from the one described in the HP Novel.

If its venom were always this potent, then when Harry had his arm pierced by its fangs in the original story, there would have been no time to wait for a phoenix to save him.

Even so, Wade reacted instantly. Though his thoughts flickered for a split second, his body continued to move at terrifying speed.

Whoosh!

Crimson flames shot from the tip of his wand and, riding the wind, rapidly transformed into a colossal fire serpent. It melted straight through the ice giant's body and surged forward.

Because the fire serpent emerged directly from within the ice giant, the Basilisk had no time to evade and was instantly ensnared.

Wade swung his wand again, and the fire serpent formed from Gubraithian Fire tightened around the Basilisk's body.

Bang!

The Basilisk's massive body writhed in agony across the ground.

Its tail smashed into a nearby stone pillar, shattering it to pieces.

Seizing the opportunity, Wade swung his wand once more. The shattered stone fragments rose into the air and then slammed into the Basilisk like cannonballs.

Bang! Bang! Bang!

The Basilisk's head was struck again, and its amber-yellow eyes were smashed blind.

"Hissss~~~<<<" The Basilisk rolled on the ground in agony.

Suddenly, ice spread across the floor once more, freezing the Basilisk's thrashing body in place.

Wade charged forward, stepped onto a slab of ice, and shot high into the air with a Levitation Charm.

While airborne, Wade pulled a two-handed greatsword from his pocket.

Gripping the sword with both hands, he dispelled the Levitation Charm and used his own weight to drive the blade down with all his strength into the Basilisk's vital point.

"Die!"

Splurt!

The greatsword plunged straight into the Basilisk's vital point, sinking all the way to the hilt.

The Basilisk reared its neck, thrashing wildly as it tried to break free from the ice. Then its body suddenly stiffened before going limp.

Thud!

The massive serpent collapsed heavily onto the ground and did not move again.

"Huff..."

Wade tightened his grip on the greatsword and let out a quiet breath.

This was the first time since coming to this world that he had gone all out.

He had to admit… fighting at full power felt incredible.

Wade lifted his head and saw Dumbledore and the others standing nearby in stunned silence.

They had yet to recover from the shock. Everything had happened far too quickly.

From the Basilisk's sudden attack, to Wade raising the ice wall, to the relentless chain of counterattacks that followed.

The Basilisk had not even been given a chance to retaliate before it was beaten to death.

And Dumbledore and the others had not even found an opening to intervene.

As for Tom, who had been peeking from behind the door, his blood had practically turned cold with fear.

So this is your true strength, Wade?

T-that was utterly brutal.

I actually thought about challenging a monster like this before?

I must have been out of my mind…

"Hmm.." Wade gazed at the Basilisk's corpse on the ground.

Although the Basilisk no longer showed any signs of life, he still did not relax his guard. After pulling out the greatsword, he conducted a thorough inspection before finally feeling at ease.

Even without any trace of life, the Basilisk's body still appeared vividly crimson through the lenses.

This alone showed just how powerful the magic contained within such a Dark creature truly was.

Unfortunately, the Basilisk was not a wizard. No matter how strong its magic, the only spell it could actually wield was the innate ability of its gaze.

That was also why creatures like this were so beloved by masters of potion-making and alchemy.

Anything infused with immense magical power was always an excellent material. That rule never failed.

While Wade carefully examined the Basilisk, Dumbledore and the others removed their alchemical glasses as well.

The Basilisk's eyes had already been destroyed by Wade, so there was no longer any need to keep wearing them.

Only after taking off the glasses did they truly see the Basilisk's real appearance.

It was a colossal serpent nearly fifty feet long, roughly fifteen meters, its entire body covered in gleaming green scales that looked incomparably tough.

Newt was the first to rush over, studying with fascination this Dark magical creature he had previously seen only in ancient texts.

"So big… I once saw a massive horned water serpent, but it can't compare to this Basilisk at all," Newt said, studying the creature in awe. "According to the records, a male Basilisk has a bright red plume on its head. It seems this one is female."

While everyone gathered around to examine the Basilisk, Wade had already quietly extended his nightmare magic into its damaged eyes…

"Wade, are you alright?" Dumbledore asked, then hesitated as if unsure how to continue.

"Oh.. yeah. I'm fine," Wade replied.

Seeing that Dumbledore still looked uncertain about how to speak, Wade took the initiative.

"Professor? What is it?"
