"You mean, you want to investigate Team Rocket's warehouse on the Fifth Island?"
Shiraki looked at Silas, who had come to report.
"Yes," Silas nodded. "I just checked the patrol routes of the Special Operations Squad — the two teams' routes are perfectly coordinated.
If we suddenly join in, it might disrupt their rhythm and increase the risk of exposure.
Coincidentally, the Seven Islands are short on manpower. We could go there and lend a hand."
Shiraki frowned slightly, what Silas said made sense.
It wasn't an unreasonable suggestion.
With the strength of these sixteen rising-star Trainers, they could be more effective there.
And to be honest, if not for the League's specific orders to hold this position, sending part of the team to the Seven Islands to investigate would have been the better move.
Lorelei and Bruno, two of the Elite Four, were stationed here, along with the presence of the friendly Legendary Pokémon, Articuno.
Unless Team Rocket deployed the majority of its core force and brought in heavy firepower, they wouldn't stand a chance.
And if things really came to that, aside from a few of the stronger members, the others wouldn't be much more than cannon fodder.
Of course, that was impossible — Team Rocket wouldn't be foolish enough to openly declare war on the League.
That wasn't what worried him.
The problem was that if any of these sixteen Trainers got hurt under his watch, he'd have a hard time explaining it to anyone — especially since Bruno's orders were for them to maintain a defensive perimeter nearby.
If something happened because of his decision…
Silas, perceptive as ever, could tell exactly what Shiraki was thinking. It was only natural.
"Our assignment this time is as a supervisory team with freedom of movement," Silas said with an easy smile. "So I'm just informing you out of courtesy. Once the two Elite Four members are back, you can help relay the message."
Shiraki froze for a moment.
Right — technically, Silas and his group weren't under his command at all.
He'd just subconsciously treated them as subordinates.
Now he felt like a bit of a tool.
Silas's report and explanation were really just a gesture of politeness — part of his personality.
As the others in the group had said before: their mission this time was flexible combat and independent action. Reporting every move could expose their location.
"Well then, good luck out there."
Once their talk was done, Silas turned around and left without hesitation.
Shiraki sat there for a moment, pen in hand, and then chuckled softly.
That was just the kind of attitude young geniuses had.
If he hadn't joined the League's special operations team back then and undergone that brutal instructor training, he'd probably have been the same.
Unshakable confidence in his own strength.
Never underestimate youth — he'd been a prodigy once too.
It's just that each new generation outshines the last…
He was the wave about to crash on the shore.
"Genius Squad moving independently. Departing for Fifth Island."
He typed the message out to the League's upper command.
That so-called "Supervisory Team" that was just the official name. Ever since Lance proposed the list of sixteen names at the meeting, everyone in the League had been calling them the "Genius Squad."
As a loyal League operative himself, Shiraki could only be glad the organization had such powerful young talent.
"Understood. Maintain your position and continue guarding against any possible Team Rocket return."
A reply came almost instantly from the League's upper command.
Shiraki raised an eyebrow that was fast.
Even when the Sixth Division sent in urgent reports, they never got replies this quickly.
Ah well. Whatever happens next isn't my responsibility anyway.
With that thought, he went back to his work.
Indigo Plateau.
"As expected, those kids just can't sit still."
A man in the meeting room laughed.
"Haha, Trainers are all the same — adventure runs in our blood."
Hearing Utoh, one of the family heads, say that made everyone else chuckle and nod.
They'd all been that way once.
None of them sitting here were weak — their current positions came from hard-earned battle achievements.
In this world where Trainers reign supreme and Pokémon define strength, you can't hold high office without real power.
They trusted their heirs. These weren't inexperienced rookies — they knew what they were doing.
"All right, let's get back to the main agenda," said President Goodshow, tapping his gavel.
The room quieted and the discussion continued.
Meanwhile, Silas had returned to his squad.
"So, it's all set?" a female Trainer asked as he approached.
"Yeah. I also secured a speedboat for us — it's quite a distance to the Seven Islands.
If your Flying-types are your main fighters, don't waste their stamina. We'll take the boat."
He explained why he'd taken a little longer than planned to come back.
He didn't mention the Water-types, since ordinary swimming barely taxed them at all.
The one talking to him was none other than Daisy Oak, granddaughter of Professor Oak and older sister of Gary Oak.
To be honest, he'd been stunned when he first saw her.
He never knew that Daisy was such a strong Trainer — she was never mentioned in the anime!
Though she didn't walk the path of a battle Trainer, focusing more on Pokémon Contests, that didn't make her any weaker.
Thanks to her connection to Professor Oak and Gary, she quickly became friendly with Silas and integrated easily into the squad.
Or rather, she didn't even need help — being Professor Oak's granddaughter made her instantly popular. Everyone treated her warmly.
"But won't a speedboat be too noisy?"
Another late-arriving male Trainer raised his concern.
He was Tatsuya Eneda, heir to the Eneda family.
With him here, the heirs of both the great scientific and business families had arrived.
"It's fine," said Joy Utoh carelessly, answering in Silas's place. "According to our readings, Team Rocket has already retreated. There's no need to worry about alerting anyone.
And even if they hadn't left, a group like ours crossing the sea and sky together isn't exactly stealthy. It's not like this is an infiltration mission."
Tatsuya nodded in understanding.
"All right then. If there are no more objections, let's head out," said Silas.
When no one else raised an issue — and everyone looked eager — he gave the order to depart.
The group soon braved the cold wind and reached the shore.
Because the climate around the Seafoam Islands wasn't naturally occurring, an eerie scene unfolded before them.
Behind them stretched an icy, snow-covered wasteland — but as they neared the coast, the air turned warm and pleasant.
If one didn't look back, it would be easy to think they were at a seaside resort like Lilycove.
The speedboat Silas had arranged earlier was anchored not far away.
"All right, the few of us will go ahead first."
Several of the group members raised their eyebrows and released their Pokémon.
"Go, Lapras!"
"Blastoise, let's go!"
"Gyarados, on the water!"
"Feraligatr, it's up to you!"
"Golduck, make it stylish!"
With the overlapping shouts and bursts of Poké Balls, five powerful Water-type Pokémon appeared on the waves beside the boat.
As expected of the children of powerful families — not one of their Pokémon was ordinary.
Even the Golduck, usually considered a common Pokémon, was rare due to how difficult Psyduck were to raise properly.
"You guys aren't using your Water-types?" Silas looked over at those who hadn't sent out theirs.
"Your speedboat holds twelve people, right? With those five, that leaves eleven seats. No need to overdo it," said Seiichiro Sasaki, making it clear he intended to take it easy.
The others nearby nodded quickly in agreement.
Mostly, they just wanted to save energy. Even if Water Pokémon didn't tire easily while swimming, carrying a passenger still took extra effort.
Travel experience told them — conserve where you can.
The remaining five, however, didn't share that mindset.
That was just a matter of personal habit. They were used to long-distance journeys and had their own ways of handling such travel.
Everyone boarded the speedboat, and they set off immediately.
"Didn't expect you to know how to drive a boat," said Yezo, teasing as he watched Silas steer one-handed.
"Heh, there's a lot you don't know about me. What, you think I'm like you?" Silas shot back childishly.
The group bantered and joked as they sailed toward the distant, faint silhouette of an island.
Just like the saying "the mountain looks close but takes forever to reach," seeing the island didn't mean they were near.
Factoring in the Water Pokémon pacing themselves to conserve strength, it took them over an hour to reach the first of the Seven Islands — Knot Island (First Island).
After another two hours, guided by Lapras, they avoided countless hidden reefs and finally arrived at Fifth Island — Chrono Island.
By the time they docked, concealed the boat, and made landfall, the sky had already darkened.
"Ugh…"
The moment Yezo stepped onto solid ground, he started dry heaving.
Those nearly four hours at sea had completely wrecked him.
He never expected he'd get seasick.
Still, nobody had the time to comfort him.
"Rest for ten minutes. Those with scanning abilities, start checking the area," ordered Silas.
The moment they stepped onto the Chrono Island, everyone's attitude shifted — their playful chatter vanished as they entered mission mode.
Although the Special Operations unit's intel claimed that Fifth Island was completely deserted — both Team Rocket and civilians already evacuated — they had to stay alert.
It could easily be a trap.
After all, the Special Ops had been too busy evacuating civilians to thoroughly sweep the island.
At Silas's command, Poké Balls began opening one after another.
Arcanine, Mightyena, Houndoom, Luxray, Swampert, Gigalith, Gengar, Alakazam —
The Trainers exchanged glances, their eyes filled with unspoken rivalry.
Pairs of Pokémon who clearly didn't get along fanned out in opposite directions to begin their reconnaissance.
