Chapter 272 - Chapter 272: The Top 32

Bang!

Blaziken's powerful legs swung upward, delivering a fierce kick to Feraligatr's lower jaw.

"Graaagh!"

Feraligatr's cry stopped abruptly.

Its wide-open jaws were forcefully slammed shut by Blaziken's sheer power.

Feraligatr instinctively clutched its mouth with its forearms, as if trying to soothe the pain in its teeth.

"Use Aqua Tail!" Kane shouted without hesitation.

Although Feraligatr wasn't a Fighting-type Pokémon, that didn't mean it lacked close-combat prowess — after all, its species name wasn't given for nothing.

Sometimes, relying on its sheer physical strength alone, Feraligatr could hold its own even against Fighting-type Pokémon.

Feraligatr's savage gaze locked onto Blaziken.

Despite the blow it had just taken, its upper body movement didn't hinder the explosive power it could generate from its lower half.

Feraligatr braced one leg against the ground, its tail swirling with light-blue water energy. The red, saw-like dorsal plates flickered in and out of view, giving it a menacing appearance.

This Aqua Tail was far stronger than the one it had used against Togekiss earlier — the swing of its tail was like a raging tidal wave.

Whoosh!

The sound of the tail cutting through the air mixed with the roar of the ground being torn apart. Both Feraligatr and Kane eyes flashed with surprise.

The attack had power, but it missed its mark completely, Blaziken had already vanished from its original position, reappearing to the side of Feraligatr in an instant.

It wasn't that Blaziken was impossibly fast after all, it had just entered the battle and hadn't built up enough momentum for its Speed Boost Ability to fully activate.

Instead, right after completing its upward kick, Blaziken had used the move Detect to anticipate Feraligatr's next movement pattern, dodging in advance.

That's why its sudden shift appeared almost like teleportation.

"Use Thunder Punch!"

At that moment, Feraligatr's side was completely open after using its previous move — a perfect opportunity Silas wasn't about to miss.

The perfect synchrony between Silas and his Blaziken was evident; he had barely spoken the first word before sparks of electricity began crackling between Blaziken's claws.

By the time the order was complete, both fists were already blazing with lightning.

Crack!

Feraligatr howled in pain as electric currents ran through its body.

Electric-type attacks were always the most effective against Water-type Pokémon, regardless of whether the user was an Electric type or not.

Although Feraligatr wasn't paralyzed, it lost control over its body for a moment — its muscles went numb, making it impossible to use its usual brute strength.

"Close in — Superpower!"

The relentless offensive from Silas and Blaziken was like an unstoppable wave fierce and unending.

Blaziken lowered its stance and lunged directly into Feraligatr's chest.

Thanks to Feraligatr's large size — easily bigger than Blaziken the maneuver was possible. Kane Feraligatr was well-developed, but compared to Silas's fully trained Blaziken, the physical gap was still noticeable.

Blaziken's arm and leg muscles bulged visibly.

Thud! Thud! Thud!

Shoulder strikes, elbow blows, claw swipes, punches, and knee lifts in the blink of an eye, Blaziken unleashed a barrage of relentless blows like a flood bursting through a dam.

Feraligatr's mouth, which had just been forced shut, opened wide again. It tried to roar, but the force of Blaziken's strikes robbed it of breath and voice alike.

While using Superpower, Blaziken deliberately avoided striking the beige bone-like armor on Feraligatr's abdomen, instead targeting its upper body — where its defense was weakest.

Boom!

Blaziken's final whip kick sent Feraligatr flying backward.

The massive body — over 2.5 meters tall and weighing close to 100 kilograms — crashed heavily onto the ground, sending dust billowing everywhere.

Only then did the commentator's excited voice reach the ears of the captivated audience.

"I–Incredible!!

Silas's Blaziken unleashed an unbelievable high-speed melee assault!

Kane's Feraligatr couldn't even fight back!

This, this is the true beauty of power!"

The audience erupted in cheers, unable to contain their excitement.

This kind of intense battle was exactly what they came to see.

Though it was a one-sided beating from the perspective of the battlers, to spectators, it was thrilling to watch.

Silas and Blaziken ignored the crowd — their focus never left the battlefield.

Blaziken's pale-blue eyes gleamed faintly as it stared into the rising dust cloud.

"Graaagh…"

A weak but still ferocious growl echoed, and in an instant, the dust dispersed under a sudden surge of energy.

In the middle of the arena stood Feraligatr, now cloaked in a blue watery aura — the mark of its Torrent Ability being activated.

Both Silas and Kane knew exactly what that meant.

On one hand, Feraligatr's attack power had increased dramatically.

But on the other, Torrent only activated when its HP was critically low, meaning it was hanging on by a thread. Another hit from Blaziken would likely end the match.

Fortunately, since its earlier Ice Fang had successfully caused a Freeze status on Togekiss, that confirmed Feraligatr did not have the Hidden Ability Sheer Force.

Otherwise, with Sheer Force combined with Torrent, its offensive power would have skyrocketed even further.

If that were the case, a single boosted Water-type move could very well have taken down Blaziken outright — a frightening possibility.

Even without Sheer Force, though, any Water-type move at this point would still deal devastating damage to Blaziken.

Silas exhaled deeply, his expression serious. The real battle was only beginning now — the earlier overwhelming advantage Blaziken had gained could easily vanish in a moment's carelessness.

The faint white glow on Blaziken's body faded — the effect of Agility had just worn off.

But it didn't matter for now; its Speed Boost Ability had already accumulated several layers of speed increase.

If Blaziken continued using Agility on top of that, it might actually lose fine control over its movements — a risk not worth taking.

The two Pokémon stood across the field, glaring at each other.

"Feraligatr, Surf!" Kane initiated the next move first.

He couldn't afford to stall — maintaining Torrent also consumed stamina. If dragged out too long, Feraligatr might collapse on its own.

A towering wave rose from nowhere, Feraligatr riding its crest as it charged forward, surrounded by swirling water energy.

Evade — it had to evade.

In an instant, Silas made the correct decision.

"Use Bounce!" he commanded sharply.

There was no safe place on the ground — the only option left was the sky.

Blaziken didn't hesitate.

Its whole body crouched slightly, and then, with powerful strength from its legs, the fiery red figure shot up into the air.

That was exactly what Kane wanted Blaziken to do.

"Feraligatr, use Waterfall!"

Feraligatr roared fiercely once again.

A huge surge of water beneath its feet burst upward, forming a water column that carried it into the sky.

Blaziken spread its claws, hovering like a great bird.

Looking down at the fast-approaching Feraligatr below, its eyes were filled with calm determination.

"Aerial Ace!"

Silas's timing was, as always, perfect.

When Feraligatr was only four or five meters away, Blaziken's body suddenly flared with dazzling white light.

Then, seemingly defying the laws of physics, it shifted sideways several meters through midair.

That short distance became a wide chasm between Blaziken and Feraligatr.

The two Pokémon locked eyes; Feraligatr's gaze remained fierce as ever.

But without the water pillar's support, the over 100-kilogram reptile couldn't stay airborne for long. Its heavy body plummeted straight down.

"Go after it — Shadow Claw!" Silas continued to command.

Blaziken flipped gracefully, diving diagonally toward the falling Feraligatr.

While it couldn't truly fly, Blaziken was skilled in aerial maneuvers and Pidgeot often taught it how to maintain balance midair.

A dark aura flashed around Blaziken's claws a bad sign for its opponent.

The Ghost-type move Shadow Claw not only carried decent power but also had a high critical hit ratio.

Slash—

The sound of claw against flesh rang through the air.

Feraligatr bit down hard, enduring the searing pain.

For a Pokémon like Feraligatr, this was an almost unthinkable sight but it knew if it couldn't withstand this strike, victory was truly out of reach.

Boom!

Feraligatr crashed into the ground once again, the impact even heavier than before.

A cloud of dust burst upward, shrouding the battlefield in gray.

Blaziken landed lightly, dispersing the force from its fall.

It turned its head slightly — one eye met Silas's.

Silas nodded. "Blaziken, Aura Sphere!"

Kane frowned the moment Silas called Blaziken's name to attack. He was visibly frustrated.

According to tournament rules, when a Pokémon's battle capability is uncertain, further attacks aren't allowed — otherwise, a fainted Pokémon could suffer severe injury or even death.

For any Trainer, that would be worse than dying themselves.

But upon hearing Silas's chosen move, Kane could say nothing more.

If Blaziken was using Aura Sphere, that meant it was channeling Aura, the energy of life itself — which also meant Blaziken could clearly sense that Feraligatr was still conscious and able to battle.

Silas would never risk his reputation by delivering a fatal attack during an official League match.

Kane didn't know whether to feel proud or heartbroken.

Proud, because Feraligatr was still standing despite everything.

Heartbroken, because there was no hope of surviving the coming attack. His journey in the Indigo League was about to end.

A small, glowing blue sphere began to form in Blaziken's claw.

Whoosh—

Blaziken gauged its power, then hurled it forward.

The spinning Aura Sphere sliced through the smoky air, every eye in the stadium fixed on the small blue projectile.

Bang!

The Aura Sphere carved a clean tunnel through the dust and struck the struggling Feraligatr directly.

Thud—

With a weak groan, Feraligatr's limbs gave out. Its massive body collapsed to the ground, eyes swirling.

"Feraligatr is unable to battle! Blaziken wins!"

The referee raised the blue flag without hesitation.

"Waaah—!"

Cheers erupted throughout the stadium.

Blaziken and Feraligatr had delivered a truly high-level battle.

The audience wasn't foolish — after watching countless matches, they knew quality when they saw it.

And Kane's Feraligatr was by no means weak.

For Blaziken to win with almost no injuries only proved how powerful it truly was.

Kane silently recalled his fallen Feraligatr. After a few comforting words, he sent out his final Pokémon.

The cheers didn't die down — it was the audience's way of honoring Kane.

Even the dullest spectators knew Kane had no chance of winning now.

Unless he somehow had an Elite-level Pokémon that could defeat Silas's remaining four, the match was already decided.

Still, they cheered for him with respect.

Silas faced his opponent's last Pokémon — a Nidoqueen, Poison- and Ground-type, Advance-level with the same cool expression as before.

This moment was broadcast across countless households by the Pokémon League's TV network.

Everyone now had a clearer picture of this young Torch Runner and powerful Trainer — someone calm and composed beyond his years.

No other first-time League participant had ever faced making the Top 32 with such composure — though few could even make it this far to begin with.

Ten minutes later

The referee raised the blue flag for the sixth time.

"Nidoqueen is unable to battle! Blaziken wins!

Red side, Kane Sawyer's six Pokémon are all unable to battle.

In the first match of the Indigo League Round of 64, the blue side — Silas Alaric from Viridian City is the winner!"

As the cheers echoed through the stadium, flames burst from Blaziken's wrists.

It was a sign of respect toward its two worthy opponents they had both fought well.

On the big screen above the field, Kane Sawyer's portrait and six darkened Poké Balls vanished, leaving only Silas's face filling the display.

"Let's congratulate Silas Alaric for advancing to the Top 32 of the Indigo League!"

The commentator's voice boomed with energy and enthusiasm.
