Chapter 505 - Chapter 505: Those Who Possess Special Abilities

"The place known as Viridian City is quite a good place."

The elderly Priestess spoke with a hint of nostalgia.

She slowly took a book from the bookshelf.

"I imagine you should know that there are many humans in this world who possess special abilities, correct?"

Silas nodded.

"Throughout the long history of humanity, we gradually classified these special abilities into different categories.

"The most common and familiar of them all would be Psychic powers. The most prominent Trainers among them are Sabrina, the Gym Leader of Saffron City in Kanto, and Caitlin, the heiress of Unova.

"In terms of strength alone, neither of these two is inferior to their Pokémon."

The elderly Priestess put on her glasses and began reading the knowledge recorded in the book.

Although Silas already knew most of this information and was anxious to find out why she had suddenly brought it up, he still listened politely.

"Next is the renowned power of Aura.

"Because the Aura Guardians are few in number, and because freely manipulating Aura is extremely difficult, the only known 'Aura Guardian' currently living is Riley. His ancestors, Sir Aaron and his descendants, have also left behind numerous records."

"Aura Guardians? Riley? Sir Aaron?"

Silas blinked.

This terminology and these names were things he was hearing for the first time in this world.

As for Sir Aaron, the 'Hero of the Aura,' thanks to the movie he had watched in his previous life, Silas still remembered him quite clearly.

"Third among these special abilities is the Viridian Force.

"Unlike the first two, the Viridian Force is not something that naturally exists within the human body. The means by which one acquires it usually comes from the blessing bestowed by Viridian Forest once every ten years.

"It is said that only Trainers who genuinely consider the well-being of Pokémon can receive such a blessing.

"Prominent Trainers who possess it include Lance, the Dragon-type Elite Four member of Kanto, and Giovanni, the Gym Leader of Viridian City.

"Unlike Psychic powers and Aura, the Viridian Force is more focused on support. Its users can communicate with Pokémon while also healing injuries they have suffered.

"According to records, some users of the Viridian Force can even use something known as 'Aura' to temporarily enhance the strength of their Pokémon partners, though the price is extreme exhaustion and, in severe cases, even a threat to their lives."

Lance?!

Silas froze when he heard the familiar name.

"But doesn't Lance possess Dragon Force?"

He instinctively voiced his question.

The elderly Priestess looked at him with some surprise, evidently not expecting Silas to know about Dragon Force.

"Yes, that's correct. However, possessing the Viridian Force and possessing Dragon Force are not mutually exclusive."

She smiled.

"There has never been any record stating that a human cannot possess two different special abilities simultaneously.

"It is simply that throughout the thousands of years of history, people capable of doing so have been extraordinarily rare. You could count them on one hand."

Damn.

Silas couldn't help cursing inwardly.

Compared with himself, a transmigrator, and the future Ash, Lance seemed more like the protagonist of this world.

As someone who possessed both Dragon Force and the Viridian Force, Silas couldn't help thinking that it was rather embarrassing for Lance to lose to Lorelei, Bruno, and Agatha.

"Dragon Force is a special ability that is essentially inherited through one's family, so it is basically impossible for outsiders to master. It is an extremely rare type.

"Another ability similar to it is the Power of Conquest."

Seeing that Silas had no further questions, the elderly Priestess continued.

"Conquest means transcending time and space.

"According to the records, this power originated as a gift from the Creator. The first known person to possess it was Damos.

"However, because the Creator has remained asleep for so long, the power of Conquest has gradually declined.

"At present, the only person clearly known to possess the Power of Conquest is Damos's descendant, a Trainer named Sheena.

"There is also an International Police officer named Anabel who is suspected of possessing the Power of Conquest.

"Its ability is to connect the hearts and minds of humans and Pokémon, allowing them to communicate with one another. It can calm Pokémon whose minds have been consumed by rage, and it can even summon the legendary pair that rules over time and space.

"Of course, if a Pokémon's rage is too intense, the Power of Conquest may not necessarily be effective. The power of the human mind is still somewhat weaker than that of Pokémon."

Another familiar name.

Silas was quite familiar with Anabel. The two of them had communicated more than once.

This future Battle Frontier Brain had an excellent personality and was also enthusiastic about sharing all kinds of information.

Silas had never expected her ability to perceive the minds of Pokémon to be connected to the Power of Conquest.

However, judging purely from the way her ability manifested, it did make sense.

"These are the special abilities that have been recorded as organized systems. As for the countless special abilities that do not belong to any established system, they are even more varied.

"According to the records, humans who were raised by Pokémon can even use some of their moves to a certain extent. However, that is merely a legend."

The elderly Priestess finally closed the thin book in her hands.

Silas stared at it with undisguised interest.

Knowledge and information were two priceless forms of wealth.

A book containing records of things known to very few people was even more precious.

Who knew what other special abilities were recorded in that book?

Silas was extremely curious.

Unfortunately, it was obvious that the elderly Priestess had no intention of letting him look through it. She simply returned it to the bookshelf.

"Do you know what causes these special abilities to form?"

The elderly Priestess suddenly asked Silas.

"Um because humans naturally possess energy within their bodies?"

Silas hesitated before giving his guess.

"Yes, but also no."

The elderly Priestess wasn't surprised. Any Trainer who possessed a Pokémon at the level of an Elite member or above would more or less understand this.

"Humans naturally possessing energy is one factor. The external factor, however, comes from the existence of Pokémon.

"Take Dragon Force, for example. The Dragon Clan has lived alongside Dragon-type Pokémon for generations, causing their bodies and minds to be immersed in Dragon-type energy. That environment eventually gives rise to this special ability."

"That is also why I said Viridian City is such a good place."

A smile appeared on the elderly Priestess's deeply wrinkled face.

"Because of the existence of Viridian Forest, the people living there possess considerable potential in this regard."

Silas understood what she meant. His eyebrow rose.

"You mean I possess a special ability as well?"

Although it was widely rumored within the Pokémon League that he possessed the Viridian Force, Silas knew his own circumstances better than anyone.

Aside from Zero, he had nothing.

"Yes, but it isn't the Viridian Force."

The elderly Priestess clearly had a close relationship with the Pokémon League as well. Otherwise, she wouldn't have known so many secrets.

She answered him directly.

The League's belief that Silas most likely possessed the Viridian Force was based on a simple coincidence: the timing.

Lance and Silas were roughly ten years apart in age.

That interval happened to coincide with the period in which a new wielder of the Viridian Force was expected to emerge.

"The users of the Viridian Force possess a natural aura about them, but you don't."

The elderly Priestess's clear eyes seemed to see straight through him.

"As for what your specific special ability is, would you be willing to cooperate and let us test it?"

As she spoke, she somehow produced the Sea Soul Staff.

The enormous blue gemstone atop it illuminated the entire room.

Seeing the bewildered expression on Silas's face, the elderly Priestess explained the function of the Sea Soul Staff.

"Besides communicating with the Sea Guardian, the gemstone on the Sea Soul Staff also possesses the ability to create a reflection.

"It can manifest your special ability in visual form. Of course, discovering exactly what that ability is will depend on you.

"Even Psychic powers that one is born with require training before they can be used freely."

Seeing that Silas was still somewhat hesitant, the elderly Priestess smiled.

"You've met the Guardian yourself, haven't you? Are you really worried that I would harm you?

"As residents of the Whirl Islands, we dream of nothing more than seeing the Guardian return."

She did not explicitly say who the Guardian was, but both Silas and the elderly Priestess knew exactly who she meant.

The current Sea Priestess Maya, standing nearby, was completely bewildered.

What exactly were her teacher and this young Trainer talking about? Why couldn't she understand a word of it?

And the gemstone on the Sea Soul Staff could actually do something like this?

How had she never known about it?

"Then, I would appreciate it."

Silas nodded and agreed.

He wasn't really worried about any danger.

After all, there wasn't anything about him that would give them a reason to target him. There was no logical reason for them to go out of their way to harm him.

He simply hadn't expected this situation.

Following the elderly Priestess's instructions, Silas extended his left hand and placed it against the enormous blue gemstone.

In an instant, he felt his consciousness being dragged into a vortex.

An unbearable sensation washed over him, causing Silas to frown in pain.

"It has appeared. Look carefully."

The elderly Priestess's voice promptly brought Silas back from the splitting headache.

He forced himself to remain conscious and looked up toward the image appearing within the blue gemstone.

"This is..."

As he stared at the image displayed inside the gemstone, Silas's brow furrowed even more deeply.

"Bang!"

The next moment, a dull sound rang out.

Silas clutched his head, cold sweat covering his forehead, and dropped to one knee.

This was a little different from what he had expected.

No one had told him it would hurt this much.

After all, pain inflicted upon the mind was on an entirely different level from physical pain.

Silas felt as though his soul was about to leave his body.

Seeing this, the elderly Priestess was also somewhat confused, but she quickly waved the staff in her hand.

A faint blue light enveloped Silas's entire body.

"Ah..."

A groan escaped Silas's mouth, but he quickly suppressed it, feeling somewhat embarrassed.

"If you don't mind, could you tell me what you saw?

"Normally, the Sea Soul Staff's ability shouldn't cause you such severe pain."

After having Sea Priestess Maya bring over a chair for Silas to sit in, the elderly Priestess asked in confusion.

"A pile of green rock-like crystals, along with various common Pokémon."

Although the staff's healing power had already restored him, Silas was still immersed in the pain he had just experienced. He answered the elderly Priestess as briefly as possible.

Then he suddenly came back to his senses.

"You can't see it?"

The elderly Priestess shook her head.

"No. Only you can see it. It is a manifestation of the power deep within your heart, so outsiders cannot clearly see it.

"Otherwise, I wouldn't have told you that discovering the exact nature of your ability would depend on you.

"As for the green crystalline rocks..."

She paused.

"I'm afraid I don't know what they are either."

"No, no. I'm already very grateful to you. At least now I know that I'm indeed someone who possesses a special ability, right?"

Silas hurriedly waved his hand in response.

In truth, the place he had seen looked extremely familiar to him. He simply couldn't remember where it was no matter how hard he tried.

"So it really is a scene from the anime I watched in my previous life?"

Silas thought deeply.

Tree of Beginning. Aura.

Two seemingly unrelated terms suddenly appeared in his mind.

Although the Tree of Beginning was called a tree, it was actually a crystalline life-form composed of layers of rock resembling a tree. It relied on light to obtain energy.

Besides being the home of Mew, with whom it shared a symbiotic relationship, it was also a small world inhabited by numerous Pokémon.

Among all the various special abilities, Aura was the only one with a close connection to the Tree of Beginning because of Sir Aaron.

"Could it actually be Aura? I thought that if I had any special ability, it would be Psychic powers."

Silas's thoughts wandered for a moment.

Psychic powers and Aura were, fundamentally, both forms of mental power.

As someone who had been an avid reader of novels in his previous life, Silas knew that transmigrators rarely lost out when it came to abilities of this nature.

Still, compared with Aura, Silas actually preferred Psychic powers.

The main reason was that most of Aura's abilities could essentially be replicated through Psychic powers, although the strengths and areas of specialization differed.

Moreover, Psychic powers could allow him to use Teleport, which was extremely convenient for saving his life.

Even when it came to strengthening Pokémon partners, Psychic powers had a considerably broader range of applications than Aura.

Suddenly, Silas chuckled.

"Looks like Blaziken and I were destined to cross paths from the very beginning."

Almost every user of Aura had a Pokémon with a natural affinity for Aura, Lucario, by their side. It was almost like standard equipment.

More accurately, powerful Aura users were naturally drawn to one another, which was why such situations occurred.

Although Silas didn't have a Lucario, he did have a Blaziken with an astonishingly high aptitude for Aura.

That fellow had even received recognition from Cynthia's Lucario.

"You agree, don't you?"

He patted the Luxury Ball hanging from his waist and spoke cheerfully.

The Luxury Ball swayed slightly, almost as though responding to his sudden question.

"You seem to have already figured it out?"

A trace of curiosity appeared in the elderly Priestess's eyes as she looked at Silas.

This young man seemed to have quite a few secrets.

Silas smiled and replied, "Yes. I have a rough idea."

"That's good."

The elderly Priestess didn't ask any further questions.

"Knowing is enough."
