Chapter 9 - Protecting My Ordinary Life

"You," Dante stated, his face a mix of shock and realization.

"Hehehehe," Miss Sapphire laughed. "Are you surprised to see me?"

"Truly, I am." Dante was certain everyone had left, and even if anyone were still around, they wouldn't be brave enough to approach him again.

"Would you be kind enough to invite me inside? I don't mind standing outside, but with the countless reporters taking pictures, I feel uncomfortable," Sapphire said.

"Sure." Dante stepped aside, and she entered. Even before Sapphire could take a seat, her picture with Dante had already reached the city and caused a major commotion, a commotion Sapphire would only get to know about when she returned.

"Mrs. Joan." Sapphire smiled warmly at Mrs. Joan. From just a glance, Mrs. Joan could tell what kind of person Sapphire was, so she returned the smile.

"Dante, get our visitor something to drink."

"There would be no need for that. I'm sure I have little time before my phone starts to ring." Though Sapphire was not aware of the commotion happening in the city right now, she knew her headmaster would soon get the news that she was meeting with Dante.

"I'll keep it straight. We may not be able to offer you half of what the Golden Lion would, but I'm sure you would find a place to spread your wings in our academy."

"How so?" Mrs. Joan asked.

"He would be surrounded by people who would make him feel at home." Sapphire had a lot of things prepared to offer, but after Mr. Jacob was rejected, she knew material things wouldn't sway Dante.

"To be honest, I am skeptical about my son living the life of an Awakener; the dangers it carries outweigh the benefits," Mrs. Joan sighed.

"I understand your plight, but once he has awakened, he will never lead an ordinary life."

Mrs. Joan was aware of that. She was even more aware of the challenges Dante would face in the future. She looked at her son, and he smiled to reassure her that he would follow whatever decision she made.

"It would be unfair if I continued to hide him from the world," she muttered, then steeled her heart before turning to Sapphire. "I am willing to allow him to join your academy, if you promise to look after him."

"Look after him?" Sapphire chuckled. "He will be the one looking after me once he completes his training."

"Will my mother be allowed to come with me?" Dante asked.

"An apartment could be arranged for her close to the academy." Though Sapphire appeared calm, she was very excited.

"That wouldn't be needed." Mrs. Joan was aware that she could easily be recognized once she got to the city, so she didn't want to implicate Dante.

"Mom?"

"I love the quietness here. Who will look after your friends once you are gone? I enjoy the quietness here." She smiled, and Dante had no other option than to accept.

"Since your mother has accepted, we can start leaving immediately."

"I would like to stay and help my friends rebuild the things that have been damaged and say my goodbyes." Dante stated, and for some reason, Sapphire couldn't refuse him. Sapphire could feel an air of authority around Dante, making it impossible to say no.

"Alright, I will come back later to pick you up. You can call me when you're ready." Though schools were not accepting admissions at the moment, an S-rank like Dante would obviously not be affected by such rules.

"Alright." Dante smiled, and Sapphire couldn't help but wonder how someone could be so handsome. She was certain that Dante would win many hearts when he got to the academy.

"I will say my goodbye for now."

"In all you've said, you never mentioned the name of your academy," Dante remarked before Sapphire left.

"The Mighty Ones Academy," Sapphire said with pride, and Dante loved the name.

He escorted Sapphire to the door, and before closing it, Dante made a statement with a smile. "I will move heaven and earth to protect my ordinary life. No matter how extraordinary you think I will become in the future, I will make sure it doesn't change my ordinary life."

"We'll see about that in the future," she replied, "also you don't have to be scared about Mr.Jacob."

"I am not."

Sapphire left with a smile
