Nikolas sat by the swing in the park. Immediately after he arrived, he strolled through the entire park, looking for any sign of Cyrus, but when he couldn't see the kid, he decided to just give it a rest.
It was a long shot anyway, thinking he would meet him here. He tapped on the candy bars he had brought along with him to share with Cyrus.
As much as he wanted to pretend he didn't care, the disappointment of not seeing Cyrus in the park settled deep in his stomach as he sat down on the swing.
Nikolas inhaled deeply, filling his lungs with fresh air. His eyes roamed around the park, scanning the handful of happy families. Their laughter filled his ears, echoing through his brain.
A small smile curled his lips, but it immediately faded as the memory he had been trying to push to the back of his mind flooded his mind.
He dragged a frustrated hand down his face.
