What had Selene been thinking? That her father would suddenly wake up one morning, take her back, and begin apologising for abandoning her all these years? That he would finally open his eyes to see Ivy and the rest of them for who they truly were?
She had been wrong. So very wrong.
"Selene! Selene, we're waiting," Ivy's voice rang out sharply, loud enough to yank Selene from her thoughts.
Selene looked around. A dozen pairs of eyes pinned her down like a spotlight. She could feel sweat pooling in her palms.
This wasn't supposed to happen. She hadn't come here to spar with Ivy. Today was about her father. And as much as she longed to wipe that annoying little smirk off Ivy's face, she couldn't afford a scene.
Not today.
She needed this anniversary party to go smoothly. After everything Mariam had done to bring her and her father to the same table for the first time in five years, Selene wasn't about to let Ivy ruin it.
