Chapter 959: The Irresponsible King of Men
Now, if someone had such a grand and majestic identity as a savior, wouldn't it be normal for it to be recorded in history? Why haven't I heard anything about it at all? I haven't even seen anyone discussing it.
Mash also perked up her ears, wearing an expression that said she wanted to know too.
"Really? Aren't you the King of Men's messenger? Why don't you even know something like this?"
Grimm stared suspiciously at Eiji, almost asking him outright whether he was really sent by the King of Men.
"He doesn't tell me anything! He just sent me here alone to investigate! What was I supposed to do? I'm desperate too!"
Eiji's eye twitched as he vigorously complained about that unreliable King of Men.
Time rewinds to over ten days ago.
Back then, Eiji was still staying in the Singularity that Goetia had specially created to select the UO. The school had blown up, Aoko and Nero had disappeared somewhere, but fortunately he had the naive princess by his side, allowing him to enjoy a rare period of peace.
Then Goetia suddenly showed up.
"There's a problem with the British Lostbelt. Go handle it."
Just like that, out of nowhere.
Eiji stopped Arcueid from getting angry and asked Goetia carefully for the reason.
"Besides you, there are no other suitable humans in this Singularity to send over. If we don't resolve the problem with the British Lostbelt, this planet is finished."
Hearing that, Eiji had no choice but to agree.
The planet's going to be destroyed? There's no way I can just stand by and watch!
But he was never one to suffer losses, so he immediately demanded payment.
A new Magic Crest including an Imaginary Numbers Pocket was just the deposit. Once Eiji solved the problem here and returned, Goetia would give him even more rewards.
Then he sent Eiji to this Lostbelt and immediately took off himself!
Without providing any information or hints!
As if "the Earth is going to be destroyed" was just a joke. If you really cared about the Earth's survival, you should at least tell me the details so I could avoid unnecessary detours!
Left with no choice, Eiji decided to capture the ringleader first. After figuring out the general situation of this Lostbelt, he went straight to Camelot and stormed into the Queen's castle.
What happened after that needs no introduction.
"King of Men..."
Mash was stunned.
Who was that?
"Your boss over there really has no sense of responsibility!"
Grimm also gave Eiji a speechless look, his eyes full of pity.
"Alright, little Mash and Chaldea probably need this information too, so let me properly explain to you—the history of this Fairy Kingdom!"
He seemed to fall into distant memories with apparent emotion. Before Eiji and Mash, who were all ears, he organized his words as if thinking about where to begin.
"Let's start with the initial prophecy—the ancient prophecy left by a certain shrine maiden: 'The Fairy Kingdom will experience four wars through spring, summer, autumn, and winter.'"
That was an era so distant it's now beyond verification.
"—Fairies who love freedom, fairies who protect love.
But, as replacements, they became children who lost the world.
Even after facing destruction time and again, your Britain shall continue to prosper.
The astonishment of spring, the quarrels of summer, the joys of autumn, the battles of winter.
Accumulating countless deaths, forever and ever.
But never forget this.
No matter how sturdy the walls may be, their foundations remain unchanged.
The newer the world becomes, the more ancient the foundations grow, remaining unknown all this time.
And so, they shall crumble from a single bite by an insignificant, tiny insect."
The witch left behind such a prophecy and then died.
It was less a prophecy and more a curse.
A curse upon the island of Britain, foretelling its destruction amidst prosperity.
This prophecy was believed to consist of two parts: the "Four Wars of Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter" and the "Abyssal Insect."
Among these, the Four Seasons Wars referred to the past that had already occurred in the Fairy Kingdom.
The Abyssal Insect, on the other hand, pointed to a future yet to unfold.
Eight thousand years ago, a great war erupted between the fairies of the south and the north of Britain over sovereignty of the island. At that time, the southern fairies, leveraging their alliance with humans, defeated the northern fairies. All northern fairies were slaughtered, with only the Queen of the North, Mab, escaping overseas to recuperate.
That was the Spring War.
After the Spring War, although the southern fairies gained sovereignty over the island, conflicts among the various clans persisted. All fairies of the Rain Clan perished in the endless strife.
It was at this time that the savior "Cnoc na Riabh" appeared.
Five thousand years ago, the savior "Cnoc na Riabh" traveled across Britain as the "Chosen Fairy," repeatedly quelling conflicts among the fairies and rescuing them from calamities time and again!
She saved the island of Britain countless times, prevented innumerable slaughters, and each time, she vanished without a trace after her tasks were complete.
This process repeated for a full thousand years.
Until four thousand years ago, the Queen of the North, Mab, returned from the Shadowy Isle with renewed strength. She launched the Summer War, leveraging her authority over domination and prosperity to overwhelmingly push the southern fairies to the brink of defeat.
At this critical moment, the savior "Cnoc na Riabh" appeared once more, forcibly halting the war between the two sides. She established the system of the "Six Great Clans," allowing the Queen of the North, Mab, to replace the extinct Rain Clan as the new Royal Clan, thus bringing the war to an end.
Even so, conflicts did not cease thereafter, and blood continued to spill upon the land without respite.
The savior "Cnoc na Riabh" repeatedly appeared, quelled conflicts, vanished, reappeared, and quelled conflicts again, tirelessly dedicating herself to these efforts, pouring her heart and soul into them.
During this time, she gathered a group of exceptional companions around her.
Among them were the immortal Black Knight Ector, the Fairy Knight Totrot, and the Sage Grim—together with the savior "Cnoc na Riabh," they formed the original "Savior Quartet."
"Totrot and I joined Cnoc na Riabh's salvation team after the Summer War. I was summoned as a pseudo-Servant, possessed by Cnoc na Riabh into the body of a fairy who appeared as a fourteen-year-old boy. My role was to teach her magecraft and provide methods for peace with the wisdom of a god of intellect. Totrot, on the other hand, joined after being defeated by Cnoc na Riabh."
The carriage moved along leisurely.
Even without Grim at the reins, the two horses faithfully carried out his commands, slowly making their way southward.
"However, even with our assistance, the constant infighting among the fairies showed no signs of ceasing. Thus another sixteen hundred years passed, until Celyn finally shifted her approach—she decided to let humans rule Britain."
"And so, in the Fairy Calendar year equivalent to 400 BC, the human Uther, under Celyn's guidance, became a mighty knight. Leading the Round Table Knights of that era, he campaigned far and wide, ultimately defeating the fairies of all clans and preparing to be crowned king. This became the prophesied Autumn War!"
