Chapter 1068: The Beast's Whereabouts
"Hah…"
Only after Eiji remained alone in the great hall did Morgan slowly let out a sigh.
It was as if she had shed all her defenses, revealing her true inner self.
"What's wrong?"
Eiji ascended the steps and sat down beside her.
"Worried about failing to capture the rebel army?"
He patted his own shoulder.
"This is sturdy enough to fully bear your worries."
"Hmph, as my husband, you'd better be sturdy enough."
Morgan snorted lightly.
Her tone gradually brightened, the previous traces of worry quickly vanishing without a trace.
"As for the rebel army, I've never taken them seriously."
She leaned her body against him, finding a comfortable position to rest her head on his shoulder.
"The reason I sent troops to attack was simply based on the principle that 'enemies must be eliminated.'"
To truly consider the rebel army as a major threat?
How could that be possible!
The gap between us is beyond comparison!
Morgan had never regarded the so-called foreign travelers and the Child of Prophecy as equal enemies.
Her attitude toward Artoria and the others was, at best, akin to thinking, "There's some dust here that needs cleaning."
"I just never expected Beryl would do such a thing behind my back."
She had long seen through Beryl's nature, knowing he was someone who would stop at nothing to achieve his goals.
But she also knew Beryl was a pragmatic man.
As long as he remained in this fairy kingdom, Beryl wouldn't dare do anything to anger her.
"I've been too lenient with him—he nearly got Woodwose killed."
Morgan let out a long sigh.
Beryl had done her a favor in the past.
So she hadn't treated him poorly either.
Aside from previously stripping him of his position, she was confident she hadn't done anything to wrong him.
Moreover, even when she removed him from his post, it was based on entirely justifiable reasons—not some unreasonable, arbitrary decision.
Beryl shouldn't be the type to hold a grudge over something like that.
Yet he still secretly struck, removing the liver of Woodwose, who had narrowly escaped death.
If Eiji hadn't found him in time, Woodwose might have truly ended up dead on the spot!
This left Morgan somewhat irritated.
She had always trusted Woodwose's loyalty.
However, with the island itself and the Cursed God as enemies, Woodwose's strength wasn't reliable enough to depend on.
"Beryl…"
Eiji murmured thoughtfully.
His somber expression suddenly made Morgan's heart tighten.
"There's nothing between Beryl and me."
She lifted her head, actively removing her veil, and looked at Eiji with a serious expression.
Don't you dare misunderstand.
Her face was written all over with those words.
"Huh? What are you thinking about?"
Eiji snapped back to reality, rolled his eyes, and flicked Morgan's forehead with his finger.
Morgan inhaled softly.
"How could someone like Beryl ever compare to me?"
Eiji wore a face full of pride.
"Even I took so long to get into your heart. Someone like him probably can't even catch your eye, right?"
No matter how you looked at it, Eiji completely crushed Beryl, leaving him no chance to rise.
"Shameless."
Morgan rubbed her forehead, muttering under her breath.
"Anyway, I believe you."
Eiji gently tapped her head and said with a laugh.
His words successfully brought a satisfied smile to Morgan's lips.
"Yes, you're the only one I can trust."
She leaned back against Eiji's shoulder once more.
Her usually cold face showed a trace of girlish dependence that had never been seen before.
"But what should we do about Beryl?"
Eiji found himself in a dilemma again.
From his perspective, he felt like chopping Beryl into mincemeat.
But he couldn't think that way from Morgan's standpoint.
If not for Beryl, this fairy kingdom would have been destroyed over two thousand years ago, and Morgan would have died over six thousand years ago.
He was Morgan's savior.
And it was because of him that Morgan gained the opportunity to control the fairy kingdom.
Therefore, he couldn't be killed.
During the previous meeting, the reason he only gave Beryl a lesson instead of making him "die suddenly three days later" was out of consideration for Morgan's feelings.
"Beryl..."
Morgan pondered deeply.
The difficulty in dealing with Beryl wasn't just because he had saved her.
More importantly, Fairy Tristan loved him.
Considering Fairy Tristan's feelings, she couldn't easily kill Beryl either.
"Turning a blind eye is impossible. To prevent him from becoming worse, I'll personally teach him a lesson!"
A cold glint flashed in Morgan's eyes.
As for what kind of lesson specifically,
Eiji didn't ask further.
Morgan was never one to show mercy. Her personal involvement only made one wonder what would become of Beryl.
"But, Cernunnos, we have another big problem now."
Eiji reached out and opened his imaginary pocket.
"Can you track where the owner of this thing has gone?"
He pulled out several furry objects from it.
"Tails?"
Morgan pulled the tails closer for careful examination, her brow slightly furrowing.
"The spiritual foundation pattern of these tails... could it be... Beast!"
Her expression suddenly changed, becoming grave immediately.
"From what you're saying, does this mean there's a Beast in my fairy kingdom?"
"Exactly. When I was bringing reinforcements to Londinium, I was attacked by her. Fortunately, my skills were superior, and I managed to drive her off."
"Such a thing actually happened?"
Morgan immediately frowned deeply.
The island's self-destructive will.
The curse god accumulated over ten thousand years.
Such major disasters weren't enough? Now the fairy kingdom has welcomed a Beast too?
There should be limits to how much misfortune one can bear!
"You drove her off?"
"Yes. She's not complete yet, so her power is limited. That's why I want to find her as soon as possible. At the very least, we need to drive her out of the fairy kingdom."
"That's somewhat reassuring."
Morgan breathed a slight sigh of relief.
If it were a complete Beast, it would likely be an enemy no less troublesome than the curse god or the self-destructive will.
But since it's incomplete, there's still room for maneuver.
"I'll track it immediately!"
Morgan immediately began casting a tracking spell.
If there were only scattered clues, finding it might not be easy, but with physical parts of the target in hand, the search became much simpler!
"Forty kilometers to the west... isn't that Gloucester's location?"
After calculating the tail owner's position, Morgan's expression suddenly turned sharp.
"Gloucester?"
Eiji raised his eyebrows in surprise.
"Isn't that Muirenn's territory?"
"Correct. Aside from Totrot, Muirenn is the sole survivor of the Wing Clan."
Morgan tightened her grip on the fox tail in her hand, as if intending to fashion it into a scarf.
"She has maintained neutrality all along, never yielding to me thus far. Seeing that she hasn't sided with our enemies either, I left her be, thinking she must have some hidden advantage. So this is her secret—colluding with a Beast?"
"Your Majesty, I have a report to make!"
Just then, the voice of the scribe suddenly came from outside the door.
"Speak."
"An invitation has arrived from Gloucester."
"Hmph. Before I could seek her out, she comes knocking at my door instead."
Eiji suddenly laughed and stood up.
"I'll make a trip to Gloucester. Leave the matter of the Beast to me."
