"Chad, he—"
Alpha Josh's eyes are narrow in anticipation. His hands are on either side of me—suffocating and intoxicating. When I close my eyes, all I can think of is him on the bed, hovering over me, his muscled chest right above my head as he leaned in to kiss me…
"Zara."
His cold fingers settle on my jaw like it's home—rough and firm. He gently lifts my face, and though I avoid his eyes, he leans forward when I look down.
"What happened in there?"
"Nothing," I say. My fingers involuntarily press against my right hand, where she left an imprint. The encounter with Lily is still so fresh, and no matter how much I try to take my mind off it or justify the situation, it doesn't sit right.
"Chad—" I begin again, my voice quivering and eyes staring into nothingness as I try to process the wording. And just like the last few minutes, I still come up with nothing.
