Chapter 2 - Chapter 2: Darius

Darius Pov

***

Darius Everheart, the Knight king of Everheart kingdom was in trouble!. He had forced his son into becoming a dreamknight and the kingdom's angel, Anastasia Everheart was now patiently waiting for the process to begin in the evening to butcher him after it was done.

He knew his grave was dug when he married the woman, but this time he might actually have to lie in it. This was in his son's best interests but definitely not his own. The man who was said to have carved his heart out of a glacier, was going to suffer on behalf of someone else. Such a thing was outrageous to think yet it was about pass.

Seated on his throne, he thought of how to survive this storm as a close merchant of the kingdom continued to endlessly ramble about some forest miles away from his kingdom. With his throne room from bustling with activity of selfish nobles eyeing his crown and greedy merchants making promises they couldn't keep in the corner. Nothing had changed much since the day he replaced his father.. and yet something told him to pay closer attention today.

"There's also an essence mine and a-"

"Hold that thought, Raul." stopping the man's passionate words on the subject, he scanned the room for a few seconds before letting him continue once more. He felt something enter the room but he could not make it out. He tried to sense what it is but it evaded him, worrying him extremely to the point he considered leaving to personally check but knew today his child needed him most.

Nobles came up to him with important issues and he answered them to the best of his abilities. His demeanor was a mix of caring and distant when addressing these corrupt men and women who only respected him for his strength. He also understood their fear of him was just as great. This helped him know who was lying and who wasn't when dealing with different types of people. Nothing changed for two hours until.

"I'm sorry to say that's all the time I can accommodate for today" He watched in silence as every noble left, first one at a time then all at once. There was still one in the corner who was using something to conceal himself and was failing miserably.

"I don't really remember your name, oh.. and I can't remember your face either. Your not exactly from here and were most likely sent by Grandstate I presume?"

"Nothing gets past you sir" dismissing his ability, he walked onto the red carpet Infront of the throne.

"I'm here to kill the mutation!"

"The mutation is my son and your not strong enough to even attempt that task"

They locked eyes for a moment before the man continued

"The pact said all mutations would be eradicated, regardless of origin."

Taking a breath to gather his thoughts, Darius answered.

"I know.. I signed it, but like I said. The mutation is my son!"

"Will you break the pact on behalf of a child?" The man's skin became to glow red.

"Yes." No further words were required as the tension exploded with the mans bursting out flames that became humanoid in shape once detached. The process continued untill there were fifty surrounding the king.

'Incapacitate him!, I'll find the kid' sending out his thoughts to the flame soldiers, he flew towards the door with flames under his feet like thrusters almost getting near it when he turned his head back to see Darius taking a deep breath.

The next moment he breathed out a mist that filled half the room in less than a second freezing every flame soldier it came in contact with. The flames under the man's legs brightened as he went full speed until he was an inch away from the door when he noticed he was suddenly frozen in the air.

Darius watched all of this happen with a frozen heart that was a result of him using his ability thus making him emotionally distant. When the mist froze the man completely, he shattered everything frozen in it into microscopic shards that were expelled through the windows. However just as the last of it was leaving, the door was opened releasing out through the hall.

He watched as his wife Anastasia walked inside with his child behind her. The boy looked scared but what else could he do?. Leaving the boy defenceless relying on his strength alone would get him killed regardless of how strong he himself becomes.

"Are you ready?" the words came out so uncaring and emotionless even though he wished he could put more love into them. The child hid behind his mother with a hesitant look that he just found simply adorable. To his surprise he became confident the next second and agreed. This had Anastasia written all over it but that's why he loved her. For how inspiring she was to anyone who she spoke to.

He instructed the Zeke to close his eyes before entering his soul and watching how the boy loved to play the violin. He found himself happy simply watching the comforting display as the tangible melody danced yet he knew what must be done.

He had done this multiple Instances before yet he felt nervous this time. Perhaps it was the kid's unique soul or the implications of what his future would be but he knew he had to do his best. He familiarised himself with the kid's soul and the longer he did, the more if it gets saw. While passively observing the dream essence, he saw something that shook him to his core.

Where the soul's eyes should have been, where two green burning stones that were singed into place. It was unlike anything he had seen before. The dream essence they released was so suffocating he couldn't get close. Not only that, the flames were so potent they were boiling the essence around him despite the long distance between him and them.

He couldn't stay for long, so he gathered as much dream essence as he could in the kid's soul and smashed it together with just enough pressure to create a sphere.

He then put the tangible notes into the sphere until they were diluted into purple sparks and something he couldn't recognise.

"You can open them again?" He watched as Zeke received his scroll and was almost done reading it untill that unfamiliar feelings returned. By the time he locked eyes with what was under his son's feet, Anastasia was mere moments away from getting to him.

He moved but not fast enough, by the point he got to where Zeke was standing... He was gone.

And that night a terrible blizzard spread across the lake till daybreak.
