Chapter 70
The Hunter Hunted
Heath had always known the game would eventually turn on him. He just hadn't expected it to happen so soon—or so silently.
The whispers reached him before the sun had even finished climbing the sky.
Odi's back.
With Valerie.
Alive.
Alive.
He slammed the door of his study so hard the latch cracked.
"Alive?" he hissed to no one. "That bitch was supposed to—"
He stopped. Pacing. Mind racing.
He had buried that plan so deep in the shadows, even the rats hadn't known it. Odi should've been torn apart by the forest. By the hunters. By the curse. She was not supposed to come back, and certainly not with Valerie at her side.
His pulse rattled under his skin. Cold sweat prickled his collar.
If they made it back…
If they spoke to Darius…
If they told him… everything…
He didn't even want to finish the thought.
