The second scripture was thinner than the first, its leather cover more worn, softened at the corners like it had spent a long time being carried around rather than sitting on a shelf. Bruce opened it with the same unsteady hands, and this time it was Xavier who read the title out loud.
-- Day 1571
Roswell
I have finally started to piece together the plot that the nameless have planned after spending some more time studying the connections between magic and technology to further expand upon my abilities. I've had a breakthrough allowing me to combine the best of both worlds through altering my body with the help of Tina and Wushu. After this breakthrough I can see mana in a new way helping me better visualize and understand how it works kinda like magoi from magi.
I grow more and more homesick each day but it's been like that for a while. I still have hope that I will find more like me, hopefully someone I know. Like it happens to every other isekei protagonist, why isn't it fair but say la vi ay.
Back to which the nameless are collecting remnants of the singularity, my guess would be they're trying to revive their leader and by having high ranking people in each government supply their materials to them and keeping them hidden is only accelerating the process. I must head to the luxes kingdom and go to the field of serpents where my old friend Claudius told me heading there might help me uncover more about the history of this world which could lead us to more clues about the nameless. Legends say that a legendary serpent still rests there to this day.
Before that I must repair some of my equipment and the old faithful, since it has had a lot of holes since the last battle and I'm afraid it will crash if I try to fly it in this condition. Man, I wish I could fly like the others. After I repair it, maybe on the way there I could stop and meet some old friends. Tina says that the windstrom child grows more bratty by the day so somebody has to reign him in.
As always if someone is reading from the future my name is mitchell martin i am from another world hopefully like you since this is all in english I go by the nickname of roswell here if you are reading this try to meet up with me or find me we will have much to discuss.
Goal : Stop the nameless's plot and hopefully find a way back home --
For a while, none of them spoke. Four years. Over fifteen hundred days, and Mitchell had spent every one of them out here, homesick, still hoping to find "more like me." Xavier felt something twist uncomfortably in his chest, somewhere between guilt and grief for a reunion that hadn't happened yet.
"He's strong now," Bruce said quietly. "Whatever he's doing with mana and magic and technology... that's not beginner stuff. That's not us setting fires by accident. He's actually figured something out."
"Almost makes our two class quests and one accidental flamethrower look a little pathetic," Xavier admitted.
"...the Windstrom child." Stephan, of all people, was the one who caught it, his finger tapping the line as he reread it. "Wait. Windstrom. As in—"
"As in the actual Duke," Xavier finished, sitting up straighter. "The guy who's been feeding us breakfast and handing us badges for the past week."
"He said somebody has to 'reign him in.'" Bruce frowned at the page. "Reign in the Duke? The Duke doesn't exactly strike me as someone who needs supervision."
"Unless he means someone else," Xavier said slowly. "A kid. His kid, maybe. We don't actually know if the Duke has children."
"Or," Stephan offered, "the Duke used to be the bratty kid, a long time ago, and Mitchell's known him that long."
All three of them sat with that for a moment, and none of them had an answer. There was a whole page of other names and half-explained plots sitting right below it — some faction called "the Nameless," a "singularity," a kingdom none of them had ever heard of, a legendary serpent resting in the very region they were about to travel to — and not nearly enough context to make sense of any of it yet. For now, the Windstrom line was the only thread solid enough to actually pull on.
Xavier closed the scripture gently, its weight suddenly heavier than its size. "So he's out there. Alive. Tangled up in something we don't understand, apparently on a first-name basis with a Duke, and heading to the exact same place we're about to go."
"Feels like more than a coincidence," Bruce said quietly.
"With our luck? It's never a coincidence."
By the time they left the scriptorium's shade and stepped back into the square, none of them were in much of a mood to talk. Xavier finally broke the silence somewhere past the fountain, forcing his voice into something lighter than what he actually felt. "So... anyone still in the mood to explore, or are we calling it a day?"
"Field of Serpents," Bruce said, quieter than usual, the scripture tucked carefully under his arm now. "We should keep moving. Staying still feels worse right now."
Stephan, for once, didn't argue.
