Chapter 4 - System (2)

After having silently celebrated – and done a few slightly embarrassing celebration-moves – Ichiro turned his attention back to the system screen and pressed the section displayed as -potential upgrade-.

POTENTIAL UPGRADE

- 80 potential (10 system points)

- 85 potential (50 system points)

- 90 potential (100 system points)

- 94 potential (500 system points)

- 99 potential (1000 system points)

Ichiro had no idea how the system points worked, however he could imagine that they were not easy to get.

Hmm, the jump in price from 90 potential to 94 is pretty big. And it seems like the rating system that the system uses is pretty similar to the rating systems of games like FIFA – with how 99 is the maximum overall.

"Wait, I think I saw something about system points earlier…" he murmured, closing the shop tab and flipping back through the menus.

"Ah, there it is"

Just beneath the header displaying his attribute points, was the glowing text "-SYSTEM POINTS-"accompanied by a large zero.

Seeing the large, taunting zero displayed, Ichiro felt a little disappointed. It seemed he would not be upgrading his potential for now at least.

Still, disappointment quickly gave way to excitement. If he didn't have them, he would just find a way to get them- and he was just about to learn how. Pressing the section, a new screen opened.

SYSTEM POINTS

(Points rewarded by the System for completing challenges. These points can be used in the SHOP)

BALANCE: 0

In all honesty, when Ichiro had seen the header displaying – CHALLENGES- ha had kind of gotten an idea of where he could earn the System Points. That was after all how it usually was in games. And as he sort of expected, it was exactly as how it was in games.

Ichiro excitedly found the section called Challenges and tapped it.

PENALTIES: (upon failure of completing tasks)

*System shut down

Looking over the list of assignments he had to do, Ichiro felt a little disappointed. He had kind of been hoping that there were some exciting tasks for him, however instead all he got was training exercises. And to add insult to injury, he wouldn't even be getting any System Points from this particular task.

He would however be getting Attribute points, and that thought excited him. The tasks may have been tedious – and slightly boring, however they would be making him better.

Ichiro looked over the task one more time, before closing the tab. It was time to finally look at what excited him the most - his Attributes. Maybe now, he could figure out why the System rated him so poorly.

Taking a deep breath, bracing himself for what he could only imagine would be a monstrosity to his eyes – he clicked the header.

"Fuck…" Ichiro quietly said, accompanying the word with a sigh. He had expected it to be bad, but this, this was just an insult. The reason for his low overall rating was now, glaringly obvious – he sucked. And not only did he suck, but he sucked in everything. Well, everything except his pace – which he was actually rather happy with.

The thing that especially irked him, was the rating of his strength. Ichiro had always prided himself on his physique. He wasn't monstrously large or anything like that, but he liked to think that he looked pretty good without a shirt on.

It would seem though, that the System did not agree with him. The number 30 was low, almost exceptionally so.

Letting out another sigh, Ichiro closed the System. It was time for bed, and as much as he would like to continue exploring the system, the day had already been long and exhausting. And he would have time to figure out the System over the coming days anyway.

He laid in bed that night and thought of everything he could achieve. The System had shown him the path he had to take – and now he just had to follow it.
