Chapter 116 - Wand or “Wand”?

Succubi Chapter 116. Wand or "Wand"?

The crowd reacted. Some gasped, some cheered. So she was famous. Great. Just great.

Her lips curved. "Last time we met, everything got… heated."

"A bit heated," she echoed, eyes narrowing.

He smiled. "You hated losing to me."

"I still do."

"I was enjoying it," he said.

Oh no.

Oh no, no.

I felt the creeping chill of secondhand embarrassment crawling up my spine.

Adrian shifted.

Felix tensed.

Kyra's soul left her body.

Then Callahan leaned in slightly and said, with a voice so dramatic it should have been illegal, "But perhaps… tonight, we can recreate that… heat."

Vesperine blinked once. "Are you flirting with me?"

"Always," he said. "You know how I am with my wand."

There was silence.

A long, painful silence.

We knew Callahan didn't have a wand and never used one.

And then…

We saw it.

Something. In his pants.

Not subtle. Not ignorable. Something was definitely "awakening."

All four of us froze.

My soul said NO.

Adrian made a little choking sound.

Felix whispered, "Good gods, why…"

Kyra covered her face with her palm. Okay, correction. Her mask.

We all started inching away from him. Not casually. Not politely. Full crab-walk retreat. Sideways. Fast. Like we were escaping a crime scene.

Callahan glanced over his shoulder.

"Why are you all way over there?" he asked.

We didn't answer. We physically couldn't. Our brains were too busy screaming, "DON'T LOOK, DON'T LOOK, TRAUMA."

Vesperine's eyes flicked downward. Then upward. Then she stared Callahan dead in the eyes.

"…Is that supposed to intimidate me?" she asked.

Callahan smirked like a man who absolutely believed the answer was yes. "Oh? You noticed my wand?"

I actually gagged.

Adrian audibly whispered, "Bro, please stop talking."

Callahan reached into his coat slowly.

We panicked instantly.

"NO NO NO NO—" Adrian hissed.

Kyra's voice shook. "Evan, if he takes it out, I am running away and changing schools."

Felix whispered, "I do not want psychological damage, I already have therapy bills."

I braced myself.

Callahan pulled.

And…

A magic wand appeared.

An actual wand.

Beautiful. Sleek. Carved with silver runes. Gemstone tip glowing. Not his… "private" wand.

I let out a breath that sounded like my soul escaping.

Adrian slumped.

Felix clutched his chest.

Kyra actually whispered, "Thank the moon."

Callahan twirled the wand casually. "You seem impressed."

Vesperine tilted her head. "You carry a wand now? I thought you were too proud for one."

Callahan shrugged. "I learned a few new tricks. Some things are better… handled by a wand."

Adrian made a noise like he'd been stabbed by embarrassment.

Vesperine smiled again, slow and sharp. "Then let's see if that wand actually performs. Or if it's just decoration."

Callahan leaned closer, voice dropping. "I assure you… it performs."

I prayed for lightning to strike him.

Vesperine flicked her hair back. "Try not to humiliate yourself in front of the children."

He grinned. "They learn best through example."

Our entire team collectively died.

He? As an example?

He was strong, yes.

But he was also embarrassing us!

No! We didn't want him as our example!

The necromancer cracked his knuckles loud enough to echo.

The spirit channeler popped his neck like he was warming up for a business presentation where someone was going to die.

The banshee girl stretched, her claws scraping the ground in a way that felt both hot and horrifying.

The Hexblade drew a slow breath, calm, composed, ready for the holy battle.

Callahan folded his arms, completely relaxed. "My team is ready."

I whispered, "No, we're not."

The hot mentor lady smiled again. "Oh, this will be fun. Try not to break them too fast."

Great. Perfect. Amazing. We were appetizers.

The crowd roared again. Mana lights flickered along the arena walls. The sigils pulsed brighter, reacting to the rising energy. Somewhere above us, floating platforms began to rotate, projecting the team stats. Except our stats were just question marks and the word Rookie stamped in glowing red.

Theirs?

Ranked.

Veteran matches.

Dozens of wins.

Big red labels that said NOT BEGINNERS.

I stared. "Callahan, you said students."

"They are," he replied.

"The necromancer has facial hair and trauma."

"That's his problem, not mine."

"I want to go home," Adrian said.

"No refund."

The woman walked past her team, brushing a hand along the banshee girl's shoulder. The girl gave a giggle that sounded like someone twisting a flute out of tune.

I leaned toward Kyra. "If she screams at us, do we die?"

Kyra didn't blink. "Possibly."

Adrian was shaking his hands nervously. "We can totally do this. Right? We just have to… defend the rune. That's it. Simple objective. Basic mechanics. Right?"

Felix let out a sigh that sounded like defeat in sound form. "We are going to be annihilated."

Callahan clapped his hands once. The sound echoed through the arena.

"Alright. Team. Listen."

We leaned in.

"You don't need to win. You just need to show them your will. Real battle is about pressure. Control your fear. Don't show weakness. And if anything tries to kill you, duck."

Adrian groaned. "This advice sucks."

Callahan nodded. "That's the point."

The announcer roared across the arena again.

"The match will begin shortly. Runes will appear in the center of each team's territory. Protect yours. Destroy theirs."

Vesperine called out across the arena, her voice sharp like steel and honey.

"Cradlestorm. Try not to get your babies stepped on."

Callahan tilted his head. "Oh, don't worry. Mine bite back."

And then he disappeared.

Literally.

Just vanished in a burst of blue lightning and smoke, teleporting to the referee platform above the arena. Show‑off.

The crowd screamed harder. Drums pounded. Mana screens zoomed in on our faces — our very generic, unlabeled, boring masks. The camera even tried to do a dramatic zoom on me. I waved weakly.

Adrian whispered, "I hate everything."

Kyra inhaled. "We have to keep each other alive."

Felix checked his wand. "If the necromancer gets within ten feet of me, I am teleporting into the sun."

I leaned forward. "Okay. New plan. We don't aim to win. We aim to not die."

Adrian saluted. "Captain, yes captain."
