Chapter 164 - Fight!

Image At the End!

---

Reports started flooding in, and the pattern was clear... henchmen were spreading like a goddamn rash.

"Ryuu," Kendo's voice cracked in my head. "We got a dozen heading straight for our block."

'Take them out quick. Boss and mini-bosses are all accounted for. Be careful and go wild.'

I switched to comms. "Midnight, take command center. Nejire, get up. I want aerial sweeps and callouts. Everyone else, drop the brakes."

Midnight's voice came through. "Copy. I got the evac zone covered."

Nejire's response was laced with static and irritation. "Finally. I hate lying down. Moving in."

A new ping flared... Monoma yelling something about "proving superiority," followed by a distant explosion. I ignored that.

My bat was already over my shoulder as I sprinted through the edge of the beach, toward the block Kendo flagged. Six markers on the map, scattered. Most were dragging something or someone. A few were grouped. All glowing hostile.

Boots hit the kiosk roof, the awning flung me forward, dropping me into the trio's lap.

The first one barely got a "what the-" before I caved in his gut with a snap-strike. [MOMENTUM SHIFT APPLIED]. His friend turned, some kind of rock-hard arms bulking out of his sleeves. I slid under his wide hook, jammed my elbow into his ribs, then spun behind him and kicked the back of his knees. He dropped. Another tried to grab me from the side with a rubbery Quirk... his arm stretching way too far.

[IMPACT OVERFLOW – CHARGED.]

[ENDLESS MOMENTUM 50%]

I slammed into the next guy's shoulder like a wrecking ball dipped in caffeine. His collarbone went sideways, and he followed, ragdolling into a fruit cart. Mangos went everywhere. SOMEONE'S MANGOES!

I didn't stop.

A steam-piston brute lunged in next, arm hissing like a kettle, trying to grapple. I ducked under, grabbed his belt, and flung him over my hip into a beach chair. The thing folded on contact, and so did he. His buddy tried a ranged Quirk... some kind of glass spike. Cute. I caught the reflection a second before it hit, twisted sideways, and the shard whistled past my cheek.

Screw it.

I went in swinging. The next impact cracked his knee, then the follow-up took him off his feet. His mouth opened. Nothing came out but spit and a whine.

"Thanks for the warm-up," I muttered, and launched forward again. My comm buzzed again. Jiro's voice. "South quadrant's. Movement. Ten, maybe twelve. They are headed toward the center."

Of-fucking-course.

"Tetsutetsu," I snapped through the mental link, "tag me if Nine drops a second power. I don't care what it looks like... just ping."

"Got it!"

Another grunt lunged at me, claws out. I grabbed him by the shirt, turned, and hurled him into a stack of chairs. They exploded like a cheap domino gag.

"Iida," I barked, "redirect Froppy and Sato. Clinic defense. Send Shoji with them."

"On it. Redirecting now!"

I broke into a sprint across the dock edge, boots hammering on cracked planks. Momentum jumped again. I was wind, fire, violence in human skin. The beach stretched behind me like a war crime.

I veered toward the main path. A few of Nine's freaks were already funneling toward the village square. Two had blade mods, one was hurling orbs of corrosive gunk. I watched it melt through a parasol like acid.

[SLIPPERY BASTARD ACTIVE]

I slid under a bench, popped up beside the acid guy, and slammed my fist into his ribs. He crumpled. His friend tried to stab me in the back. I spun, caught the blade with the bat's grip, and twisted hard.

Snap.

His wrist went. I kicked his knee sideways, and he dropped screaming.

From behind, one of the others threw something small and silver. It beeped mid-air.

Flashbang.

I looked away a second too late. The world went white.

[INSTINCTIVE AWARENESS TRIGGERED]

I shifted just in time. Something scraped my ribs but didn't cut. A weight slammed into my side, blunt, not sharp. I grabbed it by instinct and flung it, heard the crash. My vision returned in pieces. More goons trying to flank from the left, their feet crunching glass and sand. One had some bullshit pressure-field aura that warped light.

I jumped straight over the field, landed behind him, and smacked the side of his head so hard he spun twice before eating dirt.

[MOMENTUM SHIFT STACKED]

Comms buzzed. Yaoyorozu. "Requesting update on enemy suppressor teams. Some have regrouped. Tsuburaba spotted eight moving around the east ridge."

"Copy. Send Mudman and Bondo to wall them off. Toru is still mopping up beach flank."

"Confirmed."

Another update. "Ryuu," Jurota said, voice low. "Our northern evac route is clogged. Comicman and Spiral are trying to hold it. Need assist?"

"Send Monoma. He wants to be useful. Let him earn it. You, stay on evac."

Click.

One more slope. I leapt up the final wall, feet cracking tile as I landed on a rooftop. From here, I could see the square.

Nine floated ten meters off the ground. Cloak snapped like a banner, face calm, uncaring. Below, Tetsutetsu was bleeding from his mouth. Kirishima had a hole in his torso. Deku circled wide, blackwhip trailing behind him like a kite made of rage.

I dropped off the roof and landed between two stunned henchmen. Both turned.

Too slow.

My bat cracked left, then right.

Both hit the ground.

"Ryuu... help."

[PHANTOM STEP]

And I was between Izuku and Nine... bat up, laser crashing into the steel like a pissed-off sunray stopped mid-breath. Nine's head tilted, barely, like he had not expected me to tank it. I grinned wide, bat smoking in my hand.

"Izuku, take that hairy bastard with Kirishima and Tetsux4. I got this."

He blinked like he had just grown a second spine but nodded, already moving. Chimera roared, trying to intercept me, but Tetsutetsu barreled into him from the side, and Kirishima slid in to support. Izuku followed behind with a half-shout, launching himself wide with Blackwhip. I watched them go for half a beat. The asshole floating above me.

Well, not floating per se... Nine stood balanced on an Air Wall maybe three, four meters off the ground. Just hovering there like he thought gravity worked by popularity. I did not bother looking up. Eyes stayed straight. No reason to humor whatever messianic complex he was cooking up.

'How do I hit a prick that walks on air?'

The bastard was using Solidify on his Air Walls, stacking it with some knockoff of Tsuburaba's Solid Air. I flexed my grip. The bat hissed where it still smoked from catching his last laser. Heat-warped steel and leather soaked in a dozen different kinds of blood. I bounced it once in my hand and stepped forward.

Nine raised his arm.

I dropped mine.

The beam lanced down, ripped through concrete just to my left. I sidestepped without thinking, sprinted up a half-crumbled incline, vaulted a rail, and used the kickback from the broken ledge to launch higher.

He created an Air Wall in front of me, cut me off mid-jump. I had no time to stop. If I kept flying, I was going to smash into it like a drunk bird on glass.

Laser flared.

"Shit-"

I twisted, dragged my bat up, spun sideways mid-air, and let the swing yank me off course. My boots skimmed the edge of the wall just as the beam tore past. The heat licked my ribs. Felt like someone lit my hoodie with a sunbeam and dared me not to scream.

[PHANTOM STEP TRIGGERED]

Air twisted. I bent sideways mid-fall, and hit the rooftop in a roll. Shoulder jarred. My bat rang out on stone.

Nine blinked.

"What the hell are you?"

Oh. So he was sniffing me out with his Read Quirk.

For a split second, I wondered what he saw.

Technically, I didn't have a Quirk. But what is a Quirk. But this System... the Limitless Growth, the stat buffs, the passives, the way my body moved when Momentum stacked... if Reading worked on quirks, what would it do with me?

Would it read my "abilities" as a Quirk? Or would it just spit an error code like, sorry, this asshole isn't in the manual?

Nine's eyes narrowed. His head tilted slightly, lips moving like he had just mouthed a question he didn't like the answer to.

I grinned.

"I am your urologist," I called out, raising my bat, "Here to check your prostate with my tool."

Nine's face didn't move. But his fingers twitched. The violet glow flared.

The air behind me flexed as heat swirled. A second later, the beam snapped down where I had been. The stone cracked, hissed, and melted at the edges.

Veilpiercer let me see them plain as day, but seeing wasn't the issue.... Nine wasn't letting me touch them. Every time I pushed up, he reshaped the layout, blocking my angles like a sadistic chess player.

'He has to focus to set those walls. If I can break that…'

'I can use Emergency Stunt Double to create a fake me, draw his eyes. The second he slips, I break his damn teeth. Ten minutes max on the clone. If I fail, I burn the cooldown and probably my ribs.'

Nine flicked his hand again, and the next Air Wall slammed down like a guillotine. I slid under, boots scraping stone, bat tight in my grip.

[ENDLESS MOMENTUM 85%]

My body blurred forward, and for a split second, I saw his eyes widen. That hesitation was all I needed.

[EMERGENCY STUNT DOUBLE ACTIVATED - 10:00]

The air shimmered behind me. Another Ryuu shot out like a glitch in reality, sprinting straight for Nine with a wild grin plastered on its face.

Nine's gaze flicked to the clone, and his fingers curled.

"Pathetic trick."

"Pathetic works on pathetic little science experiments like you. Hey, want me to autograph your tube after I shove this bat up your ass?" The Clone barked.

"Now we can double-team your ass, bastard." I spat. "Which hole you want it in? Top or bottom? Don't answer, I will shove my bat so far down in both."

His face twitched for a split second, just enough for me to catch.

[ENDLESS BANTER Triggered]

[RAGE BAIT Triggered]

"You look like a cosplay reject trying to impress Daddy AFO with Dollar Store quirks. Guess he ran out of real experiments and scraped you out of a petri dish."

The clone backed me up with the same smug voice. "Hey, trench coat... your mom ever tell you not to play with knockoff quirks? You are one error code away from pissing yourself."

I laughed, "Good one."

The clone didn't hesitate, tossing another barb. "Bet you only got that trench coat to hide how much of a limp dick your Quirk is."

Nine's jaw twitched. His hair shifted in the breeze as energy sparked around his hand. "Annoying insect."

"Not an insect. I'm the guy about to shove this bat so far up your ass you will be coughing industrial revolution."

The clone darted left. I shot right. He split his attention for a fraction of a second, and that was all I needed.

I launched upward, twisting hard, and slammed the bat into his floating Air Wall. The entire thing buckled like glass under a hammer, shattering with a loud snap. Nine dropped half a meter, staggered midair as his violet tendrils lashed out around him.

"Shit, you're uglier up close," I spat, twisting mid-fall and bringing my knee into his side as he touched down on another Air Wall. The shock jarred through my leg, but his grunt told me it landed.

He shoved out a pulse of air that cracked the ground.

I flipped back, barely skidding to a stop.

"You've got a lot of flash, but no weight. Did All For One pull you off a test bench too early, or did he just get bored and fart you out of a tube?"

[RAGE BAIT TRIGGERED]

The glow in his hands intensified. "You will not speak of him."

The clone laughed, the sound jagged enough to even throw me off for a second. "That crusty bastard is picking up soap in Tartarus last I heard. You joining him? My advice... pack some oil. Wait, shit, you can't bring anything in. So get creative. Oil bottle is gonna go exactly where you will end up using it anyway."
