Isaac's father was Fiona Raynor's brother, who had gone missing in the Middle East during the chaos of the Second World War. Before that, he had established a strong foundation for the Raynor Clan's oil business in the region.
Before the internal combustion engine made oil a necessity for transport, the industry had been built solely on the need for light. It was the vampires of the Nightshade Clan who first entered the oil business. They drilled kerosene in Virginia and Pennsylvania, providing a cheap, clean-burning alternative to whale oil, which was becoming increasingly expensive as whale populations dwindled over time.
