2004
In California, in a modern home, Dr. Andrew Desipich is inspecting radioactive fluid, before he manages to find a life form inside. Just before he can inspect the life form further, the phone next to Andrew rings.
Andrew: Yeah? Oh, hey....thanks for getting back to me....how's she doing?
Andrew visits the hospital to find his wife, Mina, who is dying of cancer.
Mina: Andrew....
Andrew: Hey, honey....
Mina: What are you doing?
Andrew: I'm sorry....I'm....I'm just studying, you know? Work has me doing all this overtime....
Mina: Is it mandatory or voluntary?
Andrew sighs as Mina concludes it is voluntary.
Mina: You're working yourself to hard, honey.
Andrew coughs.
Andrew: I know, but-but I'm close....I'm so close to finding you a cure...I can cure your cancer.....I've discovered something-something in the radioactive fluid.....I've discovered something alive!
Mina: Andrew....you have to be there for Jake...you know he gets worried more and more about his father.
Andrew: Jake is a strong boy....he'll understand when he's older....I'm close. I can make you healthy again. You shouldn't-you shouldn't have cancer at twenty-nine....it's just not fair!
Mina: Andrew...I need you to raise our boy....
Andrew: Mina....I love our boy....he's bright...he's smart...he's strong, but I cannot watch them full-time.....
Mina: Kronos will continue their work...
Andrew: Mina, please.....
Mina: I have leukemia...
Andrew: How long? How long do you have?
Mina: A few days...
Andrew: Why didn't you tell me? I could've done something sooner. I-I'm going to cure you....I'm going to cure you.
Mina coughs.
Mina: Andrew...
In his home for days, Andrew continues working on his cure from the life form he discovered in the radioactive fluid. One night, his young son, Jake, walks into the room.
Young Jake: Daddy...
Andrew: Hey, Jakey.....what's wrong, champ?
Young Jake: I had a nightmare.
Andrew: Oh....come here, son...
Young Jake walks over to Andrew, who picks up Young Jake and sets him on his lap.
Young Jake: What's this, Daddy?
Andrew: This is a life form found in the radioactive fluid.
Young Jake: What's a life form?
Andrew: it's something that's alive....like dogs....like cats...like us....humans...I'm going to try to make mommy better with this.
Young Jake: Daddy, when is Mommy coming home?
Andrew sighs.
Andrew: I don't know, son....hopefully soon.
Andrew creates a vaccine from the radioactive fluid life form and arrives at the hospital, preparing to cure Mina. Andrew then injects Mina with the serum. After a few hours of waiting, Mina suddenly wakes up
Andrew: Mina! Mina! Oh, thank god! How do you feel?
Mina: Surprisingly ....very good...
Mina looks at the syringe with the radioactive fluid life form.
Mina: Did you.....
Mina's heart monitor remains stable as Andrew smiles.
Andrew: It worked! Oh, my god! It fucking worked.....
Mina: Andrew.....
Andrew approaches and kisses Mina.
Andrew: You're going to make it. You're going to make it.
Four years Later. 2008
In his office, Andrew is working on the python virus, before Ryan walks up to him.
Ryan: Hey, Andrew. How's it going?
Andrew: Not good.....
Ryan: What do you mean?
Andrew: Ryan....this serum you're planning on releasing next year....it's bondage with the radioactive fluid is showing a lot of results....
Ryan: Is that good or bad?
Andrew sighs.
Andrew: I don't know....the good thing is it does as promised....enhances muscles.....cures cancer....and in some cases, grant superhuman abilities....
Ryan: And the bad news?
Andrew: If my calculations are right, if anyone was too overdose or if this grows out of control, the host inside the radioactive fluid.....could start to take over their hosts, one by one....if combined with radioactive energy, it could create...some mutations....out of not just humans....but animals.....my saying....if that happens, humanity loses.....bad.
Two Years Later. 2010. One year after the Python Virus Outbreak.
At a Kronos outpost, Andrew is working just as a visibly Mina walks into his office.
Mina: Andrew...
Andrew: Huh?
Mina: It's three AM. You've been up all night.
Andrew: Yeah, sorry...uh....I just....It's been a year since the outbreak.....cities are being nuked and....I just need to make this cure....if only I--
Mina: You're always working on something for the company. You know; Jake was wanting to go to the zoo today, but it's hard to explain with the world in ruins.....Our boy is getting more and more like you every day....wanting to see more and more it on what it holds.
Andrew turns and takes Mina's hand.
Andrew: Our boy
Andrew touches Mina's pregnant belly.
Andrew: and we're about to have another....
Mina: how do you know this one's a boy?
Mina suddenly stumbles, detecting the baby kicking inside her womb.
Andrew: Well, boys are aggressive...
Mina: So are women...
Mina looks at a ten year old Jake in the other room.
Andrew: What is it?
Mina: Jake had a rough day at school today...he told me he wanted to talk to you.
Andrew walks in and sits down next to Jake.
Andrew: Hey, son....Mina told me you had a rough day at school.
Young Jake: Alan Baker tried to take my lunch box again.....
Andrew: Huh....well.....tomorrow we're going to try to go down to the school and see if we can help you from this Alan Baker.
Young Jake: Dad! I don't need help! I can handle it on my own!
Andrew: You sure, son? Because you're tough.....tougher than I think....
Young Jake looks at the pregnant Mina.
Young Jake: Dad?
Andrew: Hmm?
Young Jake: When my baby brother or sisters' born, what will I have to do?
Andrew: Well, son....you're going to be the big brother now...which means...he's going to cry more....and poop more.
Young Jake: Ew!
Andrew: Yeah, ew....but being a big brother also means that you have responsibility....a duty to protect your little brother from bullies like Alan Baker....so years from now, when Alan Baker tries to take your little brother or sisters' lunch box, you know what you have to do?
Young Jake: Protect my little brother or sister.
Andrew: Yes! Precisely! That's my boy!
Mina suddenly begins to breathe rapidly as her water breaks.
Mina: Andrew! Andrew! Andrew! I need you! Oh, Jesus! Andrew! my water broke!
Andrew walks to the other room and tends to his wife. At the Hospital, young Jake waits outside during Mina's birthing process. Shortly after the birth, the doctor steps outside and speaks to Young Jake.
Doctor: Hey, sport! You want to meet your new sibling?
Young Jake holds the doctors' hand as he notices Mina in bed carrying the crying newborn child. Andrew is in tears of joy, before the doctor shakes his hand.
Doctor: Congratulations, Mr. Desipich!
Andrew: Thank you! Thank you!
Young Jake: What is it?!
Andrew: It's a boy, Jake! You have a baby brother!
Young Jake: He's so small...and loud!
Mina: all babies are like that, honey! (to Andrew) Andrew, what are going to name him?
Andrew: Why don't we name him after your father?
Mina: Jacob? No.....you already have Jake....why don't we name him after your Dad? Let's call him Kyle.
Andrew: Yeah...yeah...I like that....Kyle.....
Young Jake: Kyle.....Baby...Kyle...
A few months later, Andrew and Mina are on a food run for the outpost, when Andrew is taking samples from a dead corpse.
Mina: Andrew!
Andrew turns to Mina.
Andrew: What?
Mina: What are you doing to that poor corpse?
Andrew: Taking samples....for my research.
Mina: You and your bloody research....we're supposed to be looking for food...you know, for the outpost....for our family....
Andrew: I know....but this is important. Ryder is calling all of the top scientists to the Prime Kronos Facility...and I think I may have finally found the solution.
Mina sighs.
Mina walks off.
Andrew: Mina, I'm sorry, okay? I just....I just want to help fix the mess that I've created.
Mina: Andrew, it's been two years, understand? Two years! There's no chance of a cure for this! Ever!
Andrew prepares to speak again, but then discovers a pack of Ratclaws nearby, before Mina turns and sighs.
Mina: Shit....
Andrew: Let's keep moving.....Come on.
Andrew and Mina begin to move toward their vehicle, before suddenly, an infected appears and attacks Mina as Andrew turns.
Andrew: Mina!
Mina manages to throw the infected off, before Andrew pulls out a knife and stabs the infected in the head, killing it. Andrew recovers, before he turns back to Mina, who gives a saddened look as it is revealed that Mina was bitten on the wrist.
Andrew: Oh, god....Oh, fuck! Mina....Mina.....
Mina: Andrew....you know what you have to do.....Just....before you do it, please take me to see my sons....one last time....
Andrew looks down at his knife and ponders for a minute. Sometime later, Andrew returns to the Kronos outpost with a saddened look on his face. Young Jake walks up to Andrew and his face immediately falls when he doesn't see Mina with him. Andrew kneels to Young Jake and hugs the boy. In his house, Andrew then walks over to baby Kyle and pats his head.
Five Years Later. 2015.
In the Kronos Oupost, Andrew is collecting the files of the radioactive fluid strain. Ryan walks into the room
Ryan: Andrew?
Andrew: I'll be out in a moment!
Ryan: Andrew! Your son is getting worried!
Andrew: I'm just getting my research! It's important!
Ryan: "Your research?" Your sons are worried about you.
Andrew collects the rest of his written research containing studies of radioactive fluid. Andrew and Ryan exit the outpost area with a teenage Jake and a five year old Kyle in tow.
Teenage Jake: Dad! Where are we going?
Andrew: We have to leave this sector.....
Young Kyle: Why, Daddy?
Andrew is driving with Ryan in the passenger seat while a teenage Jake and an five year old Kyle, who is strapped in a child seat, are sitting in the backseat.
Ryan: Did Ryder say which evacuation site is ours?
Andrew: Evacuation Zone 2193....Jesus Christ....I think I've finally figured out what it is.....what caused all this.
Ryan: What?
Teenage Jake: Dad, what's going on?
Andrew sighs, before turning to young Jake.
Andrew: Jake, you and your brother play with this. Put your headphones in.
Andrew hands Young Jake a pair of headphones and a portable game device.
Teenage Jake: Here, Kyle....look at this.
Young Kyle: Froggy....
Andrew: Ryan, what I'm about to tell you....can only be told to so few...
Ryan: What?
While Jake is playing on the portable device, Andrew tells Ryan the source of outbreak. After that, Ryan gives a conflicted look.
Ryan: You're sure about this?
Andrew: Yes....
Ryan: Can we stop it?
Andrew gives a look.
Andrew: Can we stop this? Do you know how powerful it is? It'll take me years to create a vaccine for this...
Ryan sighs.
Andrew: I told you. I told you combining the Python strain with it was a fucking mistake! And you still did it and look what's happened!
Ryan: I know, Andrew! I know! I'm paying the price for it. It's costing me a lot, too.
Andrew: Like your sister in law? Or your brother?
Ryan sighs.
Ryan: Yeah....like that....maybe we could use my brother's blood to try and—
Andrew: No. It'll further complicate things and make the world so much worse.....
Ryan turns to Young Jake and infant Kyle.
Ryan: What about them?
Andrew turns to the boys.
Andrew: They have to stay here....they'll be placed in Tombs Orphanage...it's safe...heavily fortified....
Ryan: They'll grow up without their parents.
Andrew: But they'll be safe....Mina would want them safe.
The truck finally arrives at the pickup zone where a young Zeus Corps Lieutenant Jack Barnes approaches the two.
Barnes: Dr. Fenix! I'm Lieutenant Jack Barnes. I'm afraid there's been a change of plans. I've been sent here by Administrator Ryder to personally escort you to another Kronos facility with General Burton.
Ryan: "Barnes"? You got a brother that serves with you?
Barnes: You mean Rick? Yeah, you know him?
Ryan: Yeah....he's been hanging around my nephew a lot.
Ryan turns to Andrew and offers his hand as Andrew shakes it.
Andrew: Stay safe!
Ryan: You, too.
Andrew: Let's try to save the world.
Andrew then turns to Barnes.
Andrew: Lieutenant!
Barnes: Doctor.
Barnes shakes Andrew's hand, before he and Ryan depart in another helicopter. A Zeus Corps Soldier approaches Andrew.
Zeus Corps Soldier: Professor. Desipich! We've been waiting for your arrival! Administrator Ryder is eager for your presence.
Andrew: Okay...just give me a moment with my kids.
Zeus Corps Soldier: Make it quick, Professor!
Andrew walk up to Jake and Kyle.
Andrew: Jake, listen to me....I have to go away for a while.
Teenager Jake: What? No, Dad.....take us with you....
Andrew: Where I'm going, I can't take children.....you and your brother....you're going someplace where they'll be other kids...it's fortified....it has walls around it and food....they'll take good care of you....they work for your Daddy's company.....
Young Kyle: But...Daddy, I want to go with you.
Andrew: You can't, son...
Andrew turns to teenage Jake.
Andrew: Jake, I need you to look after your little brother for me, okay? Can you do that for me, son?
Young Jake: Yes....
Andrew hugs Jake.
Andrew: I love you.....you be safe, okay?
Andrew then hugs young Kyle.
Andrew: I love you, son....I'll see you both again.
Andrew breaks from the hug and touches his sons' face.
Andrew: Goodbye, my son....
Andrew enters helicopter as Teenage Jake and young Kyle wave goodbye. Suddenly, a band of Blood Hogs attack the Kronos outpost as a Zeus Corps Soldier takes the Desipich boys and puts them behind them.
Zeus Corps Soldier: Get behind me!
Some of the Zeus Corps Soldiers are killed in the fight, but suddenly, a Blood Hog with a rocket shoots at Andrew's helicopter, hitting the rotor tail as it spins out of control as it crashes into the ocean as Teenage Jake and young Kyle are devastated at his apparent parents' death.
Teenage Jake: Dad!
Young Kyle: Daddy!
As teenage Jake cries, he suddenly remembers his promise to his father and looks down at young Kyle, who is also crying.
Young Kyle: Daddy.....
Teenage Jake kneels and comforts his younger brother.
Teenage Jake: It's going to be okay, Kyle....it's going to be okay.....I'm going to take care of you....because you're my little brother....and I'm your big brother and brothers look out for each other.
