Chapter 18 - Check Up

Before Mokou could react—

A needle flashed.

Not stabbing.

Not violent.

Just there.

Mokou froze mid-step.

"…Huh?"

Her body locked up, muscles stiff but not painful.

Eirin caught Chris mid-air with terrifying precision, cradling him like something priceless.

"Temporary paralysis," she said calmly. "Non-lethal. Non-harmful. Completely ethical."

Kaguya blinked.

"…You just drugged her."

Eirin adjusted her grip, Chris's wings fluffing slightly.

"She was running."

Chris looked up at her, unbothered.

"Soft," he said, poking her sleeve.

Eirin's thousand-year-old composure died instantly.

"…Oh no."

She turned away far too fast.

"We are going home. For—medical observation."

"Play?" Chris asked.

"Yes," Eirin replied immediately. "After charts. Many charts."

Mokou, frozen in place, could only glare.

"…I'm going to kill you when this wears off."

---

Eientei was quiet.

Too quiet.

Chris sat on a futon, surrounded by pillows, plushies, and one very stressed moon doctor.

Eirin paced, muttering.

"Unusual spiritual composition… wing structure inconsistent… emotional resonance stabilized… possible soul layering—"

Chris hugged his Fumo Reimu.

"Doctor scary."

Eirin stopped.

"…I am not scary."

At that exact moment—

A sliding door opened silently.

Kaguya slipped in like a cat burglar who had zero shame.

"Ohhh there he is~"

Eirin spun around. "Princess—!"

Too late.

Kaguya scooped Chris up, spinning once.

"So cute! So small! So fluffy! He has wings!"

Chris blinked, then gently poked her cheek.

"Mochi."

Kaguya gasped.

"He named me."

"He absolutely did not," Eirin snapped.

"I'm keeping him."

"You are not."

"He's staying in my room."

"You cannot just—"

Kaguya was already gone.

Chris waved.

"Bye doctor."

Eirin stared.

"…I raised you better than this, Kaguya."

Five minutes later.

A wall exploded.

Mokou stormed into Eientei, eyes blazing.

"WHERE. IS. THE. KID."

Eirin didn't even look surprised anymore.

"Princess Kaguya has him."

"…I knew it."

Mokou marched straight to Kaguya's room.

Door slid open.

Kaguya sat on her bed, Chris in her lap, showing him moon rabbits on a scroll.

"And this one is named Reisen!"

Chris clapped.

"Bunny."

Kaguya smiled like she'd already won.

Mokou cracked her knuckles.

"Give him back."

"No."

"He's not yours."

"He's in my room."

"That's not how ownership works!"

Kaguya hugged Chris closer.

"He likes me."

Chris nodded.

"Mochi nice."

Mokou's soul left her body.

"…You bribed him with cheeks."

Eirin stepped in. "This is escalating beyond reason."

Mokou pointed at her.

"You started it."

Kaguya stood up, holding Chris protectively.

"I claim custody."

Mokou flared with immortal fire.

"I challenge that claim."

Eirin pinched the bridge of her nose.

"…Why is this happening."

Chris looked between them, then raised his plushies.

"Play together?"

Silence.

Three ancient beings froze.

Then—

Kaguya smiled sweetly.

"…Winner keeps him."

Mokou grinned.

"Fine."

Eirin sighed.

"…I will prepare the medical bay."

And somewhere deep in the Bamboo Forest, the ground trembled as an immortal custody battle began—

Over the world's most pinchable cinnamon roll.

The sliding door opened.

Reisen stepped in.

[Insert image of Reisen]

She took one look at the room.

• Mokou glowing faintly with suppressed immortal fire

• Kaguya holding a winged child like a royal treasure

• Eirin with a clipboard already half on fire from stress

• Several walls missing

Reisen blinked.

"…Ok. I originally ignored the chaos, but what the hell is going on?"

Everyone spoke at once.

"He's mine."

"I found him first."

"She drugged me."

"He poked my cheek."

"This is a medical emergency."

Reisen raised a hand.

"No. Stop."

Silence fell.

She looked directly at Chris.

"…Who is the child."

Chris looked back, holding Golden Freddy in one arm and Fumo Reimu in the other.

"Chris."

Reisen nodded slowly.

"…Of course you are."

She crouched down slightly.

"Are you being kidnapped?"

Chris thought.

Then shook his head.

"Too soft."

Kaguya smiled smugly.

"See?"

Reisen stood back up.

"…Why does he have wings."

No one answered.

"…Why does he have a floating book staring at me."

The Grimoire's eye blinked.

Reisen exhaled.

"…Sensei."

Eirin didn't look up.

"Yes?"

"This feels like one of those situations where we're about to start a war, isn't it."

"Yes."

"And is the kid the reason."

"Yes."

Reisen rubbed her temples.

"…Fantastic."

At that moment, Chris tugged on Kaguya's sleeve.

"Bunny."

Reisen froze.

"…Me?"

Chris nodded, then gently patted her ear.

"Soft."

Reisen's brain shut down.

"…I."

Her ears twitched uncontrollably.

"I need— I need a moment."

She turned away, hands over her face.

"Why is he like this."

Mokou crossed her arms.

"See? Weaponized cuteness."

Kaguya hugged Chris closer.

"He belongs in Eientei."

Eirin finally snapped her clipboard shut.

"Enough."

Everyone looked at her.

"This is no longer about custody. His presence is destabilizing immortal judgment."

Reisen looked back.

"…You're saying the kid is making you all stupid."

"Yes."

Chris tilted his head.

"Stupid?"

"…Affectionately," Eirin corrected immediately.

The Grimoire floated closer, its eye narrowing.

'They are emotionally compromised,' Nidhogg muttered. 'Shall I escalate?'

Chris whispered back.

'No fires.'

Mokou raised an eyebrow.

"…Why do I feel like something just decided not to kill us."

Eirin sighed deeply.

"Reisen."

"Yes, Sensei?"

"Until further notice, you are in charge of watching the child."

Reisen snapped to attention.

"WHAT?"

Chris immediately hugged her leg.

"Bunny safe."

Reisen looked down.

Her ears twitched again.

"…I have made a terrible mistake somewhere in my life."

Kaguya pouted.

"I wanted him."

Mokou smirked.

"Too bad."

Eirin turned away.

"This is temporary."

Reisen lifted Chris awkwardly.

"…I'm not qualified for this."

Chris smiled up at her.

"You nice."

Reisen died again.

Reisen blinked again, then looked between Mokou and Chris.

"…Actually, Mokou, since when did you have time to hook up and have a kid?"

Mokou's brain hard-stopped.

"…What."

Her face went bright red.

"NO— I didn't— he's not—!"

She pointed wildly.

"Reimu told me to look after him! That's it!"

Chris looked up at Mokou.

"…Fire Lady?"

Mokou sputtered.

"See!? He doesn't even know me!"

Kaguya blinked.

"…Who?"

Everyone turned to her.

Kaguya tilted her head innocently.

"Who's Reimu?"

Mokou stared at her.

"…The shrine maiden. The one who keeps beating you."

"Ohhh," Kaguya nodded.

"That Reimu."

She leaned closer to Chris, inspecting him again.

"So she just gave you a child."

Reisen deadpanned.

"That's not how that works."

Eirin pinched the bridge of her nose.

"Let me be very clear."

Everyone froze.

"This child does not belong to Mokou."

Mokou nodded vigorously.

"Yes. Thank you."

"He does not belong to Kaguya."

Kaguya frowned.

"…Rude."

"And he does not belong to Eientei."

Chris hugged Reisen's arm.

"I stay."

Reisen flinched.

"Don't phrase it like that."

Eirin sighed.

"He is being temporarily supervised."

Kaguya crossed her arms.

"So babysitting."

"…Supervised," Eirin corrected.

Mokou snorted.

"Yeah, good luck with that."

Reisen looked down at Chris.

"…You're gonna cause problems, aren't you."

Chris smiled politely.

"Maybe."

The Grimoire's eye blinked once.

'Correction,' Nidhogg muttered. 'Certainly.'

Reisen stared at the floating book.

"…Why does he have an evil encyclopedia."

Chris patted it.

"Friend."

Eirin turned away again.

"…I am surrounded by idiots and a very dangerous child."

Kaguya smiled brightly.

"This is the most fun I've had all month."
