"Can this thing really grant immortality?"
Roy looked at the soft disc in his hand with evident skepticism.
"Of course not!"
Fan Xinglou snorted coldly, her face twisting into a mocking expression.
"True immortality isn't so easily achieved. Even among those from my era, only a handful have survived to this day like me! What this Nameless Orga Lux grants its wielder is merely an imitation of longevity."
This unnamed Orga Lux's special ability was—storing lives.
When one life was exhausted, another would activate, achieving this semblance of longevity.
Of course, while this Orga Lux appeared powerful, its price was equally tremendous.
First, Nameless was extremely selective—far more so than even the Four Colored Magic Swords. The fact that no one like Faceless had appeared in all these years, capable of wielding multiple Orga Lux simultaneously, demonstrated just how demanding Nameless was.
Second, the chosen wielder had to implant this Orga Lux into their heart to harness its power. The cost was far more terrifying than imagined—it automatically consumed one life every two months.
"The maximum number of lives is eight."
Fan Xinglou gestured with her chin toward the storage sheath Roy had stripped from Faceless's body.
"And there's an additional effect!"
Noticing her hint, Roy also looked down at the sheath.
As he picked it up, a realization struck him.
"Exactly eight Orga Lux!"
The Sword of the Guardian Goddess, Imp's Rifle, Sandstorm Hammer, Arachne's Thread, Savage Bell of Yalos, Water Moon, Nameless, and one unused Orga Lux resembling an ancient minister's ceremonial tablet—altogether, precisely eight.
"So that's why he could wield so many Orga Lux—because he had that many lives!"
Sylvia suddenly understood as well.
Eight lives and eight Orga Lux—a perfect correspondence.
It seemed each Orga Lux corresponded to one of Faceless's lives. Losing a life would likely render its corresponding Orga Lux unusable.
"That's Sisyphus' Tablet. It inflicts excruciating pain on those it strikes, primarily useful only for interrogation."
Seeing Roy's gaze linger on the unfamiliar tablet-shaped Orga Lux, Sylvia knowingly explained its function.
"I see."
Roy nodded.
So this tablet-type Orga Lux was essentially useless. No wonder Faceless never used it—it simply had no practical application.
"Though the cost is significant, as long as you remove Nameless from your body before consuming your final life, it's still an incredibly powerful Orga Lux."
Even Sylvia couldn't help but eye the disc-shaped Orga Lux with envy. After all, each life allowed the use of one Orga Lux.
While the maximum duration was only fourteen or fifteen months, abandoning Nameless before the last life was expended would prevent death by its hand. The tremendous boost in power it provided was undeniable—Faceless becoming the top agent of Grimalkin was proof enough.
If she had this Orga Lux, she might have been able to defeat Ophelia, but being a witch, it was nearly impossible for her to gain the Orga Lux's recognition.
"Of course, you can choose to discard it, but you're being naive, little princess."
Fan Xinglou glanced at Sylvia, a malicious smile playing on her lips.
"Do you know where the stored lifespans come from?"
"...Could it be?"
"Of course, they're taken by force!"
Nameless could store lifespans.
But lifespans didn't appear out of thin air. Its mechanism was to seize the lives of others, store them within itself, and then allow the wielder to use them—consuming one life every two months. Most importantly, the choice of whose life could be stored was entirely up to Nameless.
This meant that to continue using Nameless, one would have to commit indiscriminate murder every two months!
"Wouldn't it be better to destroy this Orga Lux?"
Sylvia took a deep breath, her gaze toward Nameless now devoid of any desire, as if she were looking at some volatile explosive.
Roy's hand trembled slightly as he immediately opened an Imaginary Pocket and placed Nameless along with the other seven Orga Luxes inside.
"The Faceless Assassin failed and fled in guilt, taking all the Orga Luxes with him."
With a swing of his Sword of the Black Furnace, Roy incinerated the Faceless Assassin's corpse on the ground with its extreme heat, explaining to the two women.
"I wouldn't steal your things!"
Fan Xinglou shot Roy a disdainful look.
She could craft "Celestial Artifacts" herself. Though slightly inferior in power compared to Orga Luxes, they were still far stronger than ordinary Orga Lux weapons. She had no interest in any Orga Lux.
Sylvia simply shrugged helplessly, letting him do as he pleased.
After all, they were his spoils of war, and he had every right to handle them as he wished.
"By the way, Water Moon also has a limited number of uses. Once exhausted, it becomes useless."
Sylvia suddenly remembered something and added an explanation for Roy.
"How do you replenish it?"
Roy thought of the rod capable of decomposing any matter and quickly pressed Sylvia for an answer.
That Orga Lux was incredibly powerful, and he valued it highly.
"It can't be replenished."
"...What?"
"Once used up, it becomes scrap. The Mana Crystal will die."
"..."
Roy sighed silently.
Alright.
If Water Moon's decomposition ability could be replenished, then this Orga Lux would indeed be too overpowered. It shouldn't have remained obscure. Perhaps because it was a single-use item that would become useless after depletion, it wasn't as highly regarded, hence its lack of fame.
"How many uses does it have left?"
"No idea. Not every use is logged. Why don't you try it out?"
Sylvia smiled mischievously, egging Roy on.
Roy, of course, wouldn't waste precious uses on something trivial.
Besides.
He had briefly touched several Orga Luxes earlier, but none of them gave him a sense of compatibility. Without a suitable resonance, the Orga Luxes wouldn't lend him their power.
But come to think of it, out of eight Orga Luxes, not a single one had taken a liking to him? That was just bizarre.
As Roy pondered this, the Sword of the Black Furnace in his hand suddenly radiated a surge of indignation.
You already have me!
Roy could almost understand the sword's sentiment in that fleeting moment.
Was this your doing?
Not allowing me to wield any other Orga Lux?
But it doesn't matter anyway.
Among all those Orga Lux, the only one Roy had any interest in was Nameless. The other Orga Lux held little significance to him—none could compare to the Sword of the Black Furnace. Even something like Water Moon was far inferior to the Sword of the Black Furnace if its usage was limited. Moreover, the Sword of the Black Furnace itself possessed the ability to sever and burn other abilities, making its power exceptionally formidable.
"Fan Xinglou, hold onto my school emblem for me."
Roy removed the Scarlet Lotus emblem from his chest and handed it to Fan Xinglou.
"What are you planning?"
Fan Xinglou raised an eyebrow.
"I have some business to attend to."
A cold smile surfaced on Roy's face.
"I'm paying a visit to Rewolf!"
