Chapter 42 - The Heart in the Shadows

The passage opened by the Dragon of Time led them to the Forgotten Lands, a dark and cold place, where the sky was shrouded in eternal clouds and the ground was broken by ancient ruins. The wind blew the wails of lost souls.

Veran and Raigor advanced cautiously, feeling the weight of the darkness upon them. They knew that the Greater Entity would not leave the Dragon's descendant unprotected.

But it was then that a cry pierced the silence.

The Maiden and the Diabolo

Veran whirled. On the other side of the ruins, a figure was running desperately, pursued by a monstrous creature.

A Diabolo, a being of darkness, with broken horns and burned skin, advanced with heavy steps, brandishing a poisoned spear.

The maiden stumbled, and the Diabolo prepared to strike.

Veran didn't hesitate. With a superhuman leap, he stepped between her and the monster, blocking the attack with his blades.

Raigor arrived immediately after, striking down the enemy with a devastating blow.

The Diabolo twisted for a moment, then vanished into the shadows.

Veran turned to the girl. She was young, with long, silver hair and deep green eyes. Her skin was pale, almost ethereal, and she wore a dress torn by leaks.

"Are you okay?" Veran asked, offering her his hand.

The girl stared at him for a moment, surprised by his kindness, then nodded. "You saved me… thank you."

Veran felt his heart beat faster. It wasn't just a protective instinct… there was something about her that inexplicably attracted him.

Raigor crossed his arms, watching her warily. "Who are you? What are you doing here?"

She looked down. "My name is Lysara… and I'm looking for someone."

Veran tilted her head. "Who?"

The girl hesitated, then whispered, "The Dragon's descendant."
