Chapter 185 - Chapter 185: Wayne and Spandam

As Wayne's figure disappeared, Doflamingo turned around to see Law waiting quietly for him, as if he had something to say.

"Law, what is it?" Doflamingo asked.

"Mr. Doflamingo, what was that about?" Law asked, his gaze falling on the heart in Doflamingo's hand.

"This?" Doflamingo tossed the heart up and down, seemingly unconcerned, his attitude nonchalant.

He then explained to Law, "A dog of the World Government. We ran into him, so I might as well put him to use."

"Are we surrounded by the World Government again?" Law asked with concern.

"Not at all. But there is something the World Government wants here," Doflamingo continued to explain.

"I see." Law didn't press the matter further. If Doflamingo wanted to tell him, he would. If he didn't, it meant Law wasn't yet qualified to know.

"Work hard and become stronger," Doflamingo said, sensing Law's thoughts. He clapped a large hand on Law's shoulder encouragingly.

"I will, Mr. Doflamingo," Law said, looking at Doflamingo's face with determination.

"I'll be looking forward to it, fuffuffuffu."

Doflamingo laughed and left, leaving Law alone.

On the other side, after quickly escaping the fiery pit that was Doflamingo, Wayne was contemplating how to complete the mission he had been given.

Before long, Wayne arrived at their base in Water 7. There were still some personnel here, stationed for emergencies.

In the temporary office, only one person, Layton, was present.

"Wayne? Why are you back alone? It's not time for the shift change yet," Layton asked as Wayne walked in.

"Ahaha, well, I suddenly received some important news and wanted to tell you," Wayne said, scratching his head and feigning embarrassment.

"Oh, is that so?" Layton relaxed.

After years of missions together, they were very familiar with each other. Although what Wayne was doing was against the rules, Layton didn't say anything more.

CP5 Chief Spandam had sent a team of ten to monitor Tom. Wayne and Layton were the two leaders of this team. They usually took turns monitoring Tom in two shifts. Under normal circumstances, they would not leave their posts without authorization.

"Yes, that's right," Wayne said hurriedly.

Layton, not suspecting anything, pressed on, "What's the news? What's so urgent that you had to come and tell me?"

Seeing that Layton had taken the bait, Wayne said mysteriously, "Come closer and I'll tell you. You should know, this news could get us both promoted and rich."

"What news? Why so secretive?" Layton grumbled, somewhat dissatisfied.

"So, do you want to hear it or not?" Wayne said, pretending to be offended.

"Of course I want to hear it! You're a true brother, thinking of me! Sharing such a good thing. Quick, tell me, tell me!" Layton's face was a mask of excitement as he urged him on.

Wayne leaned in close to Layton's ear and whispered, "I've discovered that old man Tom is hiding a big secret."

Layton looked at Wayne, his eyes anxious.

Wayne smiled, no longer keeping him in suspense. "Tom has the blueprints for Pluton."

The moment Wayne's words fell, Layton's mind went blank. His breathing quickened, and the excitement in his eyes was palpable, as if he could already see wealth and fortune waving at him.

Wayne saw Layton's dazed expression and let out a cold laugh. Waving at you, alright. The hand of the Grim Reaper.

With a sickening squelch, the sound of claws piercing a heart echoed in the room. Blood dripped from Wayne's hand onto the floor, making a soft drip, drop sound.

"Why? Was what you said... all a lie?" Layton looked at the fawning Wayne from just a moment ago, now a killer, and asked with hatred and disbelief.

"Of course what I said was true," Wayne said coldly.

"Then... are you trying to take all the credit for yourself? But even if you do this, Chief Spandam won't let you get away with it!" Layton said, unwilling to accept his fate.

"Spandam? That useless piece of trash? Him? He has no ability whatsoever. All he does is shit and piss on our heads, acting all high and mighty because of his connections. I've had enough of him!" Wayne sneered at the mention of Spandam.

"Are you... trying to betray the World Government? Don't you know how terrifying the World Government is?" Layton was still confused.

"Enough. This is not for a dead man to know. Farewell," Wayne didn't want to say any more and quickly withdrew his hand from Layton's heart.

Thud.

Layton collapsed to the ground, blood pooling around him.

Wayne looked at the lifeless Layton without a shred of guilt. "Sorry. For the sake of my own life, your sacrifice is worth it. I will remember your kindness," he said coldly.

If it weren't for his own life, Wayne wouldn't have been so ruthless. But what happened today could absolutely not get out. Otherwise, the "unexplained" deaths of his team members would be a crime he couldn't bear.

So, Wayne decided to go all in and kill all his colleagues as well. That way, the matter wouldn't be exposed.

Layton was one rank higher than him, but their strengths were about the same. The surprise attack had succeeded, and he had solved a major problem. All that was left were four lambs to the slaughter.

Time for the harvest.

"Hah... hah..."

After a long while of hard work, Wayne finally stopped, leaning against the wall of the room, panting heavily. His body and face were stained with blood, a wretched sight.

"Doflamingo, you were right. The weak only live at the mercy of the strong. I wonder if my end will be the same as theirs. Hahaha!" Wayne said with a self-deprecating laugh, his laughter wild and unrestrained.

After a long time, Wayne seemed to have calmed down. He cleaned himself up and prepared to go and greet his "good" superior.

Purupurupuru...

The sound of the Den Den Mushi rang out. In an office, a man answered the call with an impatient expression.

"Is this Chief Spandam?" Wayne asked cautiously.

"It's me. You'd better have a good reason for calling me, or you'll have hell to pay!" Spandam said with extreme arrogance.

"Yes, yes, Chief Spandam. I have a major discovery here," Wayne continued to grovel, though in his heart he was gritting his teeth in hatred for Spandam. But for the sake of his own life, it was all worth it.

"Oh? Quick, tell me, what have you found?" Spandam urged impatiently.

This was his chance for a promotion and riches; how could he let it go?

"The Pluton blueprints. That old man Tom, he has the Pluton blueprints," Wayne said, dangling the one thing Spandam had been dreaming of.

"What? What? Say that again!" Spandam gripped the receiver tightly, desperately hoping for a positive confirmation.

"The Pluton blueprints are with that old man, Tom," Wayne repeated.

"Hahaha! Heaven is on my side! I'm destined to be promoted and get rich!" Spandam was overjoyed upon receiving the confirmation.

Hearing the excited voice on the other end of the line, a cold smile spread across Wayne's face. He had been worried this idiot wouldn't take the bait. Seeing how excited he was, Wayne was confident his plan would succeed.

"Wayne, Wayne! Quick, keep a close watch on Tom! I'm coming over personally! I must have those Pluton blueprints!" Spandam was ecstatic. The Pluton blueprints! This was a monumental achievement. It would all be his.

Spandam was desperate. Normally, he wouldn't risk coming himself, but this time, he had to. He couldn't entrust the Pluton blueprints to anyone else. They were his ticket to promotion and wealth.

"Understood, Chief Spandam. I will keep a close watch on him and await your arrival," Wayne said attentively.

"Hahaha! Good, good, good! Don't worry, after this is done, you'll be well rewarded," Spandam, though stupid, arrogant, despicable, and malicious, knew how to keep his subordinates in line by giving them a little taste of sweetness.

"Then I shall await the Chief's arrival," Wayne said fawningly.

"Hahaha!"

The call ended. Wayne's face was a mask of contempt.

"Pah! Spandam, your good days are over."

Of course, Spandam had no idea that this was a trap set for him by Doflamingo. He was still dreaming of his bright future.

The dream was beautiful, but unfortunately, it was fake.
