Chapter 22 - Chapter —22

[—Author Note - This was my bid to try writing different Pov's aside from the MC, be gentle with me on this one.]

—[Far from the McCall Residence]—

3 people sat on a table, concentrated and unwavering as they stared at each other.

" So the younger McCall boy shifted?" The man of the house spoke, a soft frown on his face as he stared at his daughter whilst besides him sat his wife.

" I think so. I didn't get to see him shift but by the way he acted, he was definitely going through the transition." The daughter said, a frown on her face as she recalled what had happened earlier that night.

" So that means that he isn't the werewolf we're looking for." Allison stated, a hint of relief in her eyes as she said that.

" Yes, but you'll still hold your position, get closer to Scott." The man, Mr Argent stated.

" Dad but why?" Allison asked poutingly." He's clearly not the werewolf that we're looking for."

" He might not, but there is a chance that he is connected to our case." Mr Argent spoke not making room for any further questioning." His shift and timing of full moons correlates with when the attack that happened on the last Hale Alpha."

Hearing that both the woman focused on him.

" I have a theory that Scott may have been bitten by the new rogue Alpha in a bid to grow a new pack, since we already have every profile on each Alpha currently in town, Scott being the lone Beta without a leader makes him a link to who we are chasing."

Allison frowned, a grunt threatening to spill from her mouth from unsatisfaction.

She knew that if she questioned her father more then she'd be taken off the case, her first hunter case and she wouldn't have that.

She had trained immensely to become a hunter after her first 'accident' with the supernatural world, said accident was also the catalyst to her awakening which also had her finding out that her parents weren't so normal as they portrayed themselves to be.

What followed had been grueling training to master her 'gift' and everything a hunter should know, her moving here had presented her with an opportunity to obtain a mission and prove herself in order to become a full hunter.

Though she would never tell anyone that she had to literally beg for days before she got what she wanted.

She was given a simple mission, get close to an unknown werewolf they had spotted in the town and see if she could obtain anything of use or see anything that would point to them being the killer to the lone Hale Alpha.

She had thought it an easy job, mostly due to her training and bit of confidence in her skill and especially with handling a younger boy than her.

Immediately as he met Scott he knew that he couldn't have been the person they were looking for.

He couldn't be.

From a single meeting she had already seen the fact that he was smitten with her, she didn't let the advantage slip out of her hand so she obliged the boy.

Showing him just a hint of interest, just enough to lead him on but after a while she found herself liking the boy more and more, her inexperience with subterfuge showing.

Just slight hints of liking weren't really hard to get over though, after her mission she was sure that she could handle whatever happened next, even though she came to caring for Scott.

It should've all been easy really, Scout out Scott and extract as much Intel as possible.

Easy right?

Not.

She found her first roadblock of an easy mission from someone that she had been briefly briefed about from information that they had obtained from contacts they had.

A boy, a twin to the very same person she was supposed to obtain as much information on and watch their every movement.

Markus.

A basic boy that fell from highschool stardom from what was whispered at school, not that him falling had made him any less popular though.

His physique and features were...sightly and that was enough for most.

At first she had thought that he'd just be a someone to obtain more information from, on his brother that is.

But immediately as she saw him, she knew that she had been wrong.

The boy was perceptive if anything. Picking up on things and analysing everything in his immediate proximity.

This had made it hard for her to get close to him at first.

Something else that she must've missed was his potential, his magic was way more than normal mundane people should've had.

After using an analysis rune matrix on him she had been stunned at how bright his magic had been.

This immediately led her to believe that she was an awakened, just like her. Rare but still possible.

After she had reported this to her parents her mission had irrevocably changed.

Now aside from watching over and trying to get close to Scott, which by the way was stupidly easy with how smitten he was with her— now though she had to also build a strong relationship with Markus.

A job that was not easy, the boy seemingly wanted nothing to do with crowds or people for that matter, Scott was all too eager to tell her of how much of a shut-in his brother was and how she shouldn't pay attention to Markus with that cute jealous pout on his face.

Luckily though she managed to obtain another viable source of information to use to get closer to Markus— Lydia.

She had been surprised for a moment to know that the Queen B of their highschool had been friends with Markus.

After a while though she managed to see that it wasn't a simple relationship between the two, Lydia was had been in love with Markus once and if she was right from what she observed through Lydia, she still was.

So over the few days she had managed to get into his good graces atleast, enough that he got out of his house to go to the party that she had invited him on.

She wouldn't lie and say that she wasn't happy that he was able to comprise and come, for her.

That had brought up feelings that she had felt but quickly squashed down of the boy.

She still wasn't sure of what to feel for Markus yet, so she did the only thing she could do at her position— bubble up all those confusing emotions and hope they disappeared with time.

Which would probably not help her due to what her father had asked of her, that being to introduce Markus or get him in touch to the supernatural world.

This was in hopes that after he started experiencing weird phenomenon due to whatever his 'gift' would be, then he'd be prepared.

Though her father also hoped to grab another awakened into the hunter cause, which she wasn't really keen on doing but this was her only chance at becoming a hunter so she really had no choice.

"—lison!"

She was brought out of her stupor of thoughts as she stared at her father in confusion.

" What?" She asked, confused and a bit embarassed at having zoned out on their daily hunter meetings.

" I said, we just got a call from a hunter on a situation that occured." Mr Argent said, a frown on his face as he studied his daughter.

" Uh...okay?" She replied, not knowing what was so important.

There were a lot of situations that needed hunters and seeing as they were the head leading the hunters in this city, it wasn't really a surprise.

" This situation happened at Lydias house." Mr Argent said looking at her deeply.

Immediately as he said that memories flashed through her mind— The smell of blood upstairs, the magic that was utilised close to the party and the smell of blood on Markus— Vampire blood.

" What... happened?" She asked softly, not liking where her thoughts were taking her.

" Vampire ashes were found on one of the rooms" Her mother said.

Not the most abnormal scenarios, but seeing as it happened under her nose....she didn't like where this was going.

" Also a transitioning vampire was found dead, murdered." Her father added on.

She had to school her expression quickly, not liking any of this.

Not from the fact that she had seemingly missed all of what happened, but from how her training connected the dots leading to the conclusion that Markus had something to do with this.

" Oh." She uttered, not really knowing what to say at this point.

" Do you know anything to do with this?" Her father asked, his gaze borrowing deep into her as if searching for something.

Right then and there she felt like telling them of what she had saw or more so sensed, but a part of her wishes for what she thought was false.

" No, I didn't hear or sense anything." She finally said, not really knowing why she lied herself.

" I see, get geared up then." Her father said." We're both going on the scene."

She hid her frown, not speaking on the underlying disappointment on his voice.

She didn't know whether this was due to him spotting on her lie, or him just disappointed that she didn't see or feel anything while a possible murder happened where she had just been at.

" Sure..." She said uncertainly as she stood and walked to her door.

All the while she ridiculed her decision to not tell her father of what she knew.

But until she knew that Markus wasn't a part of any of this, she wasn't willing to put his life in danger.

What troubled her though was why she was willing to go through all this length, for a boy she had only met not even a week ago.
