Chapter 57 - Road Kill

The car accelerated, Tina watching the road while Alexander watched the forest, catching flickers of movement in the trees. Whatever it was, it was keeping up with them.

"How much farther until we get to the main highway?" Tina asked. Alexander pulled up the map on the dashboard touch screen.

"Looks like about 15 miles. It looks like there is a lake, about 5 miles down this road, that might stop it from following us, if it's following us," Alexander said.

Then, they heard a howl, the same terribly wrong, blood curdling howl that was etched into Alexander's memory. "That's bad," Alexander said. "It's following us."

It was answered by two more howls, farther behind them. "That's worse." Tina said, pushing the car as fast as she could.
