Chapter 213 - Chapter 213

"SHIT!" Adam said in anger as he slammed his fists on the dashboard of his dead-in-the-water APC. Mira leaned back in her chair and took a deep breath, closing her eyes as she seemed to internalize the situation.

The two of them could hear the sound of the army of feral ghouls banging on the hull of the APC to no avail, in the distance the sound of the Vertibird could be heard flying overhead, still peppering the crowd as it made its way over the parking lot to rejoin the army. By now it was clear that the army had already begun to engage with the feral ghouls, the cacophony of fire was heard from just a bit away. Rockets, explosions, fire, lasers, guns, and all manner of explosives and firepower were being laid to bare on the fertile ghouls. But Adam and Mira were stuck, with no way to join them.

Adam looked back at the door that separated the troop transport section and the cockpit and then at Mira.

"Mira…" Adam said slowly, carefully, as he looked at her with a serious expression.

"What?" She said back.

"Does your stealth suit work?" He asked as his eyes fell onto the control panel that hung below her collar bone.

"Yes it does? Why? I don't think the stealth features would help when we are surrounded like this." She asked, curiously. Adam nodded slowly.

"I'm going to buy you the space." He said seriously. Mira frowned.

"I already don't like this plan." Adam shook his head.

"This APC can take a beating, but there's no telling how long it will take for the others to finish this. For all we know the ferals could, with time, begin to tear through the armor, I'd rather not be trapped here would you?"

"No but-" Mira began only to be cut off by Adam.

"In the back I loaded up my power armor. I will put the suit on, and go out guns blazing, clear a path for you to sneak through. You get out, and make your way to the defensive line."

"And what about you?" She said quite concerned. "You'd be surrounded and torn to pieces." Adam grinned.

"Its power armor, it's practically invincible. I'll be fine." He said with a cocky tone. Mira frowned disapprovingly.

"That lie might work on others, but not on me." She said not budging. "I know what power armor is capable of, especially the T45 variant you have. You will die if you go out there." Adam frowned now, he had hoped his little white lie would be enough to convince her but it seemed she was even more familiar with power armor than he had assumed.

"I can do it." Adam said, resolute and without a cocky tone this time. He no longer was lying, he meant every word. "I know the path back, I know the capability of the armor, I know my own skills… I. Can. Do. This." He said, enunciating each word. Mira just looked worried but then sighed deeply and then punched Adam's chest.

"Don't you dare fucking die." She said with a dead serious tone.

"Me? Die? Perish the thought." He grinned. Then he turned to look at the door and stood up letting off a heavy sigh before opening the door to the troop transport.

"I'm serious." She said as Adam stepped through the door to the back and towards his power armor sitting in the troop transport. "Don't die." She repeated.

"So am I." He said with a resolute tone. We won't die trapped in this metal box. I will ensure it."

"We could wait… until rescue." Mira offered, tentatively, in one last attempt to dissuade Adam.

"Maybe, but we have no idea what will happen in the meantime. The APC could be breached, the battle could be lost. We still don't know why the feral ghouls gathered, perhaps something far worse is among their ranks. Our best bet is to run to the defensive line." Adam asserted back as he then spun the hatchlock on the back of the power armor to open it. "Trust me, I can do it." Adam said with a confident tone as he stepped into the power armor, feeling it close around him a moment later.

"Alright, I trust you." Mira said as she stood up too, remaining in the cockpit. "Good luck Adam." She said with a concerned tone.

"You too, Mira." Adam said through the Power Armors' microphone filter, turning around to look at her briefly. She nodded to him, put on her helmet, and then tapped one of the buttons on the control console on the stealth suit. Within a moment her whole body shimmered before she disappeared almost entirely.

Much like the stealth boy, which was originally adapted from the very technology he was looking at before his eyes, the chinese stealth suit, the stealth technology had the ability to make the wearer almost entirely invisible.

At a distance it was impossible to see a person using stealth, however up close, with a keen eye, and an idea of what to look for, a person could make out the outline of the person using stealth due to the ripples in the air that their body created as the light refracted off the suit. It was hard to notice, especially when you weren't looking, but the stealth was not perfect. However as is, she was damn near invisible, and for Adam, that was enough, none of these ferals would see her.

Adam let off another heavy sigh as he slowly bent down and picked up the Minigun, throwing the backpack onto his back as he gripped the hold with his two hands.

"Alright, let's do this." Adam said after taking a moment to steel himself again before he walked over to the ramp door and then hit the button on the side of the door to drop the ramp.

It was showtime.
