CASEY
"I know that we got started on the wrong foot. I know we started badly," Sebastian says, his voice a little too gentle, a little too practiced.
"But before all of this… the contract, you and I… we vibed. We had a connection. And I thought that, you know, we were getting relaxed too much with each other. Starting to, you know, have that thing back. And all I'm saying is… when we get there,...away from here, away from the pressure and everything...you know, we can find that. We can feel it, find that. You know, we can find something real around all of this."
I look at him. Really look at him.
"Sebastian," I say, my tone low, sharp, hoping the truth will wake him from whatever fantasy he's spinning in his head. "I am not your girlfriend."
That does make him blink.
"You gave me a contract so I could pretend to be your girlfriend for six months. And that did not include me leaving my life or following you anywhere. Okay? It was just to pretend that I'm seeing you. That's it."
