Chapter 21 - Chapter 21: What’s That Got to Do with Me?

Under Han Feng's ruthless slaughter, the locusts that had managed to escape from the sea of flames met their grim fate without exception. Every single one of them fell victim to his merciless hands! As for the remaining locusts, they perished in the blazing inferno. A battalion of hundreds of locust soldiers was thus annihilated by Han Feng's doing.

The engineer's shovel, gazing at the charred corpses of the locusts strewn across the ground, couldn't help but sigh in awe. "Big brother, you're a real executioner, aren't you? Slaughtering so many lives in one go—doesn't your conscience ever ache?"

Han Feng's expression darkened instantly. "I'm warning you one last time: if you keep running your mouth like that, I'll toss you straight into a cesspit!"

The shovel panicked at once. "Big brother, just treat my words like a fart—don't take it to heart!"

Han Feng let out a light huff, ignoring the comment, and opened his attribute panel. This time, he had hunted down hundreds of locusts. Would it be enough to finally level up as he'd hoped? Soon, a translucent screen materialized before his eyes. Taking a deep breath, Han Feng scanned it carefully.

"Level 3!" Han Feng exclaimed, his excitement bubbling over. After reaching Level 3, all his stats had increased by 20 points from their original values. Suddenly, he clenched his fists, feeling an invisible surge of power coursing through his fingers—several times stronger than before.

"Haha!" Han Feng burst into hearty laughter.

"Big brother, what's wrong?" the shovel asked, utterly baffled.

"Nothing," Han Feng replied, reining in his grin as he began to clean up the battlefield. Though the locusts were dead, many hadn't been reduced to ashes and were still edible. With food in short supply, wasting them wasn't an option. After about ten minutes of effort, Han Feng gathered ten locusts and left the area.

Back at his shelter, Han Feng stored the locusts and magnifying glass in the thatched hut, rested briefly, then grabbed the engineer's shovel and headed out again. Ten locusts would barely suffice for one meal. Thus, he decided to dig up some clams to supplement his stock. As he swung open the gate of his enclosure, Yue Lingshan came running from a distance, her face etched with urgency. "Han Feng!" she shouted.

"What's got you so flustered?" Han Feng asked with a faint chuckle.

Catching her breath, Yue Lingshan blurted, "Liu Chushuang's been poisoned! Please, you've got to save her!"

"Poisoned by what?" Han Feng asked, mildly startled.

"She was stung by a wasp," Yue Lingshan replied, her eyes brimming with worry.

Han Feng paused, then chuckled dismissively. "Just a wasp sting? Why's she being so dramatic? She'll be fine in a couple of days!" He'd never gotten along with Liu Chushuang, so hearing she'd been stung brought a secret thrill of satisfaction.

Yue Lingshan's voice weakened. "But her condition's really bad right now. If you don't help, she might actually die."

"And what's that got to do with me?" Han Feng shrugged nonchalantly. He wasn't friends with Liu Chushuang, nor were they on the same team. Whether she lived or died had no bearing on him.

Yue Lingshan fell silent, stunned by his indifference. It pierced her heart like a sharp blade, leaving her deeply unsettled. But on second thought, Han Feng wasn't part of their group, so he had no obligation to step in. Plus, Liu Chushuang hadn't exactly been kind to him from the start. His choice to stand by was understandable. Still, she couldn't bear to watch Liu Chushuang die. Pleading, she said, "Han Feng, I'm begging you—don't let her die!"

Han Feng considered it for a moment before responding, "I'm a practical guy. If you want me to save someone, fine—but there's got to be something in it for me!"

Yue Lingshan's eyes lit up. "We've got a loaf of bread and a bottle of mineral water. Is that enough?"

"That's it?" Han Feng scoffed, his tone dripping with disdain. The offer felt like a mockery, an insult to his worth. A single loaf of bread and a bottle of water to save a life? Did they think he was some beggar to be brushed off so cheaply? At that moment, he felt genuinely offended.

Glancing at him nervously, Yue Lingshan murmured, "Han Feng, we really don't have anything else to give."

"Then let Liu Chushuang fend for herself!" Han Feng snapped with a huff.

"What?" Yue Lingshan froze, then hurriedly added, "Wait—we've got two treasure chests!"

Han Feng's eyes flickered with interest, though he kept his tone neutral. "You haven't opened them?"

"No," Yue Lingshan shook her head.

"That's odd. Why not?" Han Feng pressed.

She explained, "We found three chests in total. We opened one earlier, but it unleashed a wasp—that's what stung Liu Chushuang. After that, we've been too scared to touch the other two."

"So that's how it happened," Han Feng muttered, a faint smile tugging at his lips. "If you're willing to hand over those two chests, I could be persuaded to heal Liu Chushuang."

Opening treasure chests carried risks—bad luck could even cost you your life, as Liu Chushuang's predicament proved. But for Han Feng, such concerns were irrelevant. His ability to communicate with all things allowed him to probe the chests beforehand and know their contents. Two chests? If even one yielded supplies, he'd come out ahead.

Yue Lingshan hesitated briefly. "I can't decide that—it's up to Sister Zhao."

Zhao Yunxi, the leader of their trio, would have the final say in such matters.

"Let's go ask her, then," Han Feng said, striding toward the west side of the island. His shelter stood on the easternmost edge, while Zhao Yunxi's group had settled on the western side, separated by a few hundred meters. After a short walk, three interconnected thatched huts came into view—their shelter.

Zhao Yunxi stood outside the fence, her brow furrowed with worry. Spotting Han Feng, her expression softened slightly. "Han Feng, you're finally here!"

"I hear Liu Chushuang got stung by a wasp. How's she holding up? Dead yet?" Han Feng approached with a casual smile.

"Uh…" Zhao Yunxi faltered, then said, "She's alive, but it's not looking good. Please, treat her quickly."

"I can treat her, but those two treasure chests are mine," Han Feng stated bluntly.

"At a time like this, you're still demanding payment?" Zhao Yunxi bristled.

Han Feng smirked coldly. "You don't pay when you go to a hospital?"

His retort left Zhao Yunxi speechless. After a moment's hesitation, she gritted her teeth. "Fine, you can have the chests—but save her first!"
