Chapter 221: The Silver Dragon King Awakens Early
In the Star Dou Forest, Di Tian and the other soul beasts remained silent for a long time after watching the video. Though the Abyss invasion posed a great threat, the video's conclusion had shown them something truly astonishing the shackles placed upon soul beasts by the Divine Realm had finally been broken. Even the Divine Realm itself, which had oppressed their kind for hundreds of thousands of years, had ultimately met its end, wiped away as easily as discarded trash.
For many soul beasts, White Cloud City's lord, Ye Cheng, was now seen in a favorable light. His actions showed that he bore no discrimination against soul beasts. On the contrary, he had repeatedly helped them overcome crises in the video. If events had played out as depicted, the soul beast race would have either been completely exterminated or locked away in zoos for humans to gawk at.
However, what the soul beasts most desired after watching the video was the method of forming a contract with humans. As long as they could establish such a contract, the dreaded heavenly tribulations and the chains limiting their growth would vanish entirely.
This was something soul beasts had dreamed of for generations.
As for Ye Cheng breaking the Divine Realm's shackles at the end of the video, that seemed too far fetched to many of them. After all, for Ye Cheng to reach that level, the Abyss invasion had to happen first. Hundreds of years would have to pass, with countless Abyssal demons falling in battle, gradually raising the energy density of the world to surpass that of the Divine Realm. The timeline was simply too long.
And even if that day did come, what good would it be if the world was already swallowed by the Abyss?
For the soul beasts, the method of contracting with soul masters was a far more realistic goal.
The video had revealed plenty of details. While outsiders might not fully understand the implications, Ye Cheng being the pioneer of the contract system would surely gain valuable insights. Perhaps, inspired by the video, he could even develop the contract method centuries ahead of time.
This wasn't just the hope of the soul beasts. Many soul masters thought the same way. The video had provided so many clues maybe even outright answers that it wouldn't be surprising if Ye Cheng deciphered them. If he could unlock the secrets behind the miraculous power systems shown in the video, the entire world would benefit.
Thus, after the video ended, the major factions across the continent turned their eyes toward White Cloud City, anxiously awaiting Ye Cheng's next move.
…
Deep within the forest, there was a pristine lake, its crystal clear waters shimmering like a sapphire. A powerful life force radiated from within, filling the air with vitality.
Di Tian and the other soul beasts had all taken human form, standing by the lake's edge. They varied in height and build, each with distinct appearances, but all shared the same longing gaze fixed upon the still surface of the water.
They hoped their lord would awaken, just as she had in the video.
However, despite their anticipation, the lake remained undisturbed.
Disappointment flashed in the eyes of many soul beasts. Would they really have to wait hundreds of years, enduring the Abyssal invasion before their lord finally awoke? Would their race once again have to walk the same tragic path?
And this time, there was no guarantee they would be as lucky as before.
It was well known that once the future had been revealed, it was no longer set in stone. Armed with knowledge of what was to come, people would inevitably take action to alter their fate. Any event that could lead to disaster would surely be avoided, changing the course of history.
So while the video's contents could serve as a reference, no one could say for certain whether the future would truly unfold as shown.
"Beast God," said Bi Ji, dressed in an emerald green gown, as she approached Di Tian. "Will our lord really awaken?"
Di Tian furrowed his brow. "Earlier, I felt a faint sign of awakening… but for some reason…" He hesitated, uncharacteristically uncertain.
"Then…" Just as Bi Ji was about to speak again, Di Tian's entire body trembled. His expression shifted from doubt to exhilaration as he turned toward the center of the lake. The other soul beasts followed his gaze.
A low hum filled the air.
The ground beneath them trembled slightly. The lake's surface began to bubble as if boiling, steam rising in thick clouds. The tremors grew more intense, shaking the entire forest.
"She's really waking up!"
The scene unfolding before them was exactly as it had been in the video. The gathered soul beasts could hardly contain their excitement.
Then
Boom!
The earth cracked apart, sending tremors through the entire forest. The lake water drained rapidly into the fissures, exposing the lakebed within moments.
A brilliant silver light erupted from the depths.
A massive claw emerged, slamming heavily onto the shore. Its surface gleamed with radiant silver scales, each one perfectly hexagonal, reflecting an otherworldly brilliance.
The sheer force of its presence sent waves of oppressive energy rippling outward.
Di Tian and the other soul beasts were ecstatic. They immediately dropped to one knee, their voices rising in unison:
"Welcome back, my lord!"
The ground split apart with a deafening roar. The immense power of the awakening forced many soul beasts to revert to their true forms, transforming back into towering beasts before they could react.
One after another, they prostrated themselves before the silver figure emerging from the lakebed.
A deep, resonant voice echoed through the forest, seemingly coming from every direction at once. It was impossible to tell if it was male or female.
"So much has transpired during my slumber."
The silver radiance intensified, making it difficult for the assembled soul beasts to look directly at its source. Overwhelmed by reverence and joy, they trembled as they knelt. For the first time in ages, they felt as though they had a leader once more.
The enormous silver figure slowly stretched its body, finally stepping fully into the open.
It was breathtakingly beautiful.
This was a beauty that transcended species. Even through a human perspective, the Silver Dragon's form was far too exquisite to be real.
Blinding silver light surrounded the majestic creature, and soon, its massive frame began to shrink.
Di Tian and the others watched in awe. Understanding what was happening, they too began to reduce their size, one by one resuming their human forms.
Their long awaited ruler had finally awakened far earlier than in the future foretold.
