Chapter 71 - Chapter 71: Abandoning the Shadows for the Light

Is something wrong?

Or perhaps, aside from Genma, there's another "fake White Zetsu" lurking around?

That doesn't make sense.

Watching his carefully cooked duck fly away left Genma's mind in a daze, and he even started pacing in circles absentmindedly.

Genma wasn't too familiar with the history of White Zetsu's creation, but as expected, White Zetsu were produced in batches. Could it be that differences in quality between batches led to this situation?

Some White Zetsu were willing to assist Genma, while others weren't? If that was the case, the over one thousand experience packages he had planned for might face a severe reduction in number.

This was bad news.

No matter how much he racked his brain, Genma couldn't pinpoint why one White Zetsu was a defective product. Scratching his head, he could only set aside his doubts for now and refocus on the changes within himself after receiving the generous contributions from three White Zetsu.

A rough assessment told him the harvest was substantial.

If his original physical constitution and chakra quality were scored at a baseline of 100, his current score would be around 120—a roughly 20% boost to his base attributes, thanks to the three White Zetsu.

Although this batch didn't grant him new chakra nature transformations, he sensed that the "experience" from the two ordinary White Zetsu had specifically enhanced his foundational attributes. While these changes didn't directly increase his combat prowess or diversify his techniques as noticeably as a new chakra nature would, they were equally vital.

As everyone knows, the foundation is the root of everything. It's largely determined by innate conditions and is notoriously difficult to improve through training. In a sense, chakra nature transformations can be learned, but physical condition and chakra capacity are much harder to enhance. Even using secret medicines to force growth is like doping a frail sapling—it can't compare to a towering tree.

For Genma to strengthen his physique through White Zetsu was an unexpected boon.

Moreover, thanks to their chakra, the injuries on his body were healing at an accelerated rate.

Beyond that, the White Zetsu with long-range communication abilities had enhanced Genma's chakra control and sensory capabilities.

On one hand, he could now manipulate his chakra with greater precision, the simplest proof being that he could achieve the same ninjutsu effects with less chakra than before.

On the other hand, he had gained short-range chakra sensory abilities. While he couldn't become a long-range sensory ninja capable of gathering intelligence from afar, this ability allowed him to more accurately read an enemy's chakra flow during close combat, enabling him to somewhat "predict" their next move.

This sensory range extended about thirty meters, sufficient for ninja battles—after all, it's unlikely anyone could snipe him from beyond that distance.

After roughly cataloging his gains, Genma's mood, previously thrown off by the unexpected turn of events, finally regained a spark of excitement. In a way, this wasn't much different from a "Deep Blue stat boost."

Thanks, Uchiha Madara. Truly a generous delivery of White Zetsu—light on sentiment, heavy on gifts.

Afterward, Genma pulled out a scroll and sealed the four White Zetsu corpses inside. Previously, he had burned their bodies after dealing with them because he lacked other disposal methods. He could hardly carry White Zetsu corpses around in sacks, could he?

Now things were different. After learning sealing techniques from the Fuma Clan, many tasks became far more convenient. Genma also realized that White Zetsu were exceptional experimental materials, so abandoning these corpses would be far too wasteful.

With that done, Genma prepared to return to Kikyo Castle.

Originally, he had planned to beat Uchiha Nanami back to the organization's camp, but due to this minor hiccup, it was now impossible to outpace her.

A night passed, and the sun rose as usual, as if nothing had happened.

Genma had officially established a mission acceptance department, though so far, no civilians from Kikyo Castle had come to issue tasks. This was expected—new things always take time to gain acceptance.

On another front, he had restructured the Fuma Clan's production department.

The renowned "Fuma Brand" ninja tool shop had reopened, with eight Fuma ninja and a significant number of the clan's ordinary members resuming small-scale production of ninja tools.

However, Genma's cherished education plan remained on paper. He had underestimated the difficulty of implementing a systematic education system. Teachers, textbooks, and concise, efficient teaching methods—all these were beyond the capabilities of a small ninja organization.

The current mainstream method of ninja training was hands-on instruction on the battlefield. Despite its high淘汰 rate, it was undeniably simple and effective. Survive a few battles, and a ninja might just become talented.

The school-based education Genma envisioned wasn't suited for this era.

Around noon, Uchiha Nanami found Genma. He quietly observed her expression but detected nothing unusual. Despite last night's Uchiha family drama, Nanami seemed unaffected.

Or so it appeared.

Nanami had previously suspected Genma of tailing her last night, but she didn't bring up this awkward topic now.

Even if Genma had been tracking her, she couldn't fault him. After all, as a semi-outsider meeting external ninja in some obscure corner, it was reasonable for her to be monitored.

What she wanted to discuss was far more significant than these trivial matters.

"After spending so much time with everyone, I think it's time I made a decision about staying or leaving… I've decided to officially join the Firefly Organization. I hope you'll allow it."

Regardless of Genma's personal thoughts, in several dangerous operations, he had consistently put himself on the front lines to ensure the safety of other members. This sense of responsibility and courage surpassed that of many leaders of storied ninja clans.

This perception wasn't entirely accurate—Genma wasn't that selfless. But it must be said, his heart wasn't so tainted either.

Uchiha Nanami was a vital asset to the organization, and Genma had always wondered when she might choose to leave, which would mean losing a key combatant. To his surprise, what he heard from her wasn't a farewell but a request to join.

"Well… that's fine."

After a moment's thought, Genma nodded in agreement to Nanami's request.

He had been worried that White Zetsu might target her in the future, especially since he had inadvertently caused her significant trouble. But if Nanami stayed with the organization, he could help mitigate any threats from White Zetsu.

Seeing Genma's approval, a radiant smile spread across Nanami's face.

It must be said, even if it was by sheer chance…

There are many ways to gain the power of the Sharingan, and without realizing it, Genma had used the most brilliant one.
