Chapter 126 - Blood River Graveyard: Part Five

From the center of a village square in Gu Yue village, a fountain of blood suddenly burst forth as a coffin emerged from the earth. Beside it was the current clan head, who was stupefied seeing the destruction that was occurring around the village.

They had only recently defeated the wolf tide- yet the damage done now seemed to be many folds greater than that caused by the wolves. What had happened?

Even with Fang Yuan's help using Charity Gu, the villagers could not last for that long against a Rank 5 Peak Stage expert like Lord Sky Crane. Especially with Fang Yuan's limited primeval essence.

The coffin opened up and a Blood Wight Zombie walked out. "So... junior brother, you finally found me."

Lord Sky Crane halted his assault on the other villagers to focus on the Blood Wight Zombie. "Traitor... thief... you finally showed your face?"

"Since when was I hiding?" First gen Gu Yue responded. "I see that it's you who seems to be finding fun in tormenting the weak."

"Hmph! Big talk coming from a liar who was hiding from me for over a thousand years..."

"Hmm... on that matter, how did you find me, junior?"

"You can thank the Heavenly Lotus Sect for that. They seem to have as much of a grudge against you as I do..."

First gen Gu Yue paused for a second. The Heavenly Lotus Sect? He could not recall having ever done anything to directly offend them, nor for a reason for them to seek him out. Could Lord Sky Crane be lying? It was entirely plausible. "And yet, despite all this help you are so surprisingly lonely junior..."

Many of the villagers were confused- a zombie had suddenly appeared out of the earth, and they were being attacked by cranes all of a sudden. The clan head moved around to inform them, "Everyone! This is our first generation ancestor- he's been sleeping underground for all this time and waiting to help us out. That Gu Master is an enemy of his and so is an enemy of our clan's! We must unite to defeat him..."

"That's right! We should unite and help our ancestor!"

"Wait- could it be that ancestor was the one who saved us during the wolf tide and right now?"

"You mean that he is the source of the strange power that healed us and protected us?"

"Who else could pull off that miracle other than another Rank 5 Gu Master?"

"That's right! It had to be our ancestor protecting us!"

First gen Gu Yue frowned- he didn't know what these villagers were going on about, but he welcomed their support. Since he was a zombie, his strength was inferior to that of a living Gu Master's simply because he could not regain any primeval essence on his own. Not to mention he was outnumbered without the villagers given the fact that Lord Sky Crane could rely on his flock of cranes to fight as well.

"Your descendants have so much hope and faith in you..." Lord Sky Crane said. "If only they knew of your wicked deeds in the past."

"Liar! You're only trying to defame ancestor!"

"Indeed, he's just trying to sow discord between us and ancestor!"

Lord Sky Crane snarled. "Liar! Me!? This man over there was my most trusted compatriot at one point. We were known as the Righteous Twin Cranes back in our day, for the way that we attacked and defeated many demonic path cultivators. Until one day we found an inheritance that belonged to Blood Sea Ancestor... and I emerged victorious as the inheritor. But that could not lie well with you, did it, thief? You stole it! You stole what was rightfully mine! MINE! The screams of your two sons while I tormented them were like lullabies that sang me to sleep every night, but nothing could truly quell the hatred that I had burning within my heart! And now, traitor, you will meet your end!"

First gen Gu Yue coldly snorted. "Traitor? Thief? What are those but words flung around by those who wish to keep those beneath them weak? Despite both of us being orphans, who was the favored one between the two of us? Who got an extra portion of meat during dinner? Who did Master treat with greater care? It was you! Why? Because I was only a C-grade talent, while you were A-grade. Because of this difference, despite the fact that I was elder than you, I had to scrape and claw my way to the top with countless difficulties. But heaven was not content with just giving you greater talent, it was by pure luck that you managed to defeat me when it came to the Blood Sea Inheritance. Not only did you have greater talent, but heaven also blessed you with such a valuable inheritance on top of that. What happened to heaven being fair and balanced? Oh, how my blood boiled when I got to know that- it was heaven's final insult to me! I, who had always lived in your shadow, would now be eclipsed by the grandeur you would achieve when you ascended to become an Immortal!"

There was a strange tone to his voice now, as if first gen Gu Yue was almost weeping. Combined with his monstrous form and appearance, it looked quite disturbing indeed.

"And so, it was then that I decided," First gen Gu Yue continued. "If heaven would continue to suppress me, if I had no chance of moving up in the world so long as I stuck with the rules, than the rules would be broken. I would become a demon- hated by both heaven and earth, if that was the only path forward open to me. If the heavens wish to suppress me, then I shall seal the heavens!"

Lord Sky Crane had an ugly expression on his face. "So to patch up your inadequacy, you resorted to petty thievery. Gaze upon your visage- one that not even a mother could love. I'd say that it is a tragedy that you look like you do right now, senior brother, but it seems you are finally as ugly on the outside as you are on the inside. Your flesh is as corrupted as your soul. Spiteful, filled with hate, a demon whom both heaven and earth would shun. You should've died quietly somewhere where I couldn't see you before you coveted what was rightfully mine. But it matters not, I'm quite overjoyed to know that you're still... alive in some way. Else how would I be able to calm my heart other than by taking your head?"

"It's too late to stop me now, not when my plan is so close to fruition..." First gen Gu Yue said. His eyes then turned to Fang Yuan, the only other Rank 4 Gu Master there other than the clan head. "That is the boy? The one who has the Ancient Yin Desolate Moon Physique?"

"Yes-" the clan head barely got these words out when first gen Gu Yue launched himself at Fang Yuan.

Fang Yuan's pupils dilated. The Blood Wight Zombie was an excellent flyer with top-notch speed. If he had been just the slightest bit slower to react, or had not had such battle experience as he did, he would've met his end at the Blood Wight's claws.

Instead, first gen Gu Yue only managed to scratch Fang Yuan, droplets of blood hanging like rubies from each of his fingers.

"Wait..." first gen Gu Yue said, licking a drop of Fang Yuan's blood. His expression became extremely contorted as he now sounded furious, turning towards the clan head. "You! You said that he had the Ancient Yin Desolate Moon Physique! You mislead me!"

"What? No," the clan head said. "Ancestor, this one would never lie to you. How else could Fang Yuan advance to Rank 4 so rapidly without one of the Extreme Physiques."

First gen Gu Yue turned to Fang Yuan. The clan head was not wrong... to see someone so young already at Rank 4 Middle Stage. But he was extremely confident in his Blood Path methods, and knew that Fang Yuan did not have an Extreme Physique. So there was only one other explanation for this.

"Boy! You found an inheritance? Something that allowed you to cultivate so fast? Tell me the truth and where this inheritance is, and I might consider sparing your life!"
