Naruto's swagger had quite the legacy of the Second Hokage, and its impact on holding the stage was exceptional. It also possessed his unique style: overcoming skill with brute force. "Don't bother me with all that flashy stuff; I can blow you away just by exhaling chakra."
Coupled with Jiraiya's appeal to her emotions and reason, they perfectly resolved the troublesome matter of Shizuka.
Finally, Jiraiya used a sealing jutsu to help Shizuka seal the curse. Originally, it was meant to be sealed in her lower abdomen, but uncovering a young girl's clothes would be inappropriate. Following Naruto's suggestion, it was sealed on her arm instead, roughly where he used to get vaccinations in his previous life.
Sealing Jutsu was one of the most miraculous systems in Naruto. From Kaguya Otsutsuki at the top to a humble cabbage at the bottom, as long as your sealing jutsu mastery improved, there was nothing it couldn't seal.
Jiraiya, owing to the special nature of his student and his student's wife, had considerable mastery in sealing jutsu. At least, his ability to draw incantation formulas on the spot seemed quite high in Naruto's eyes.
"Seal." As Jiraiya manipulated his chakra, the incantation formulas covering the ground crawled onto Shizuka's body, finally leaving a pattern Naruto couldn't understand on her arm.
If he couldn't understand it, he had to learn it. Naruto pointed at the seal and said, "Master, I want to learn this." After all, he now bore the Uzumaki surname; it seemed a bit unreasonable for an Uzumaki not to know sealing jutsu. Perhaps in the future,
when his sealing jutsu reached mastery, he could open the gate for the Nine-Tails himself. The Chief Toad's method of opening the gate was truly terrifying. A toad that big, swallowing it whole! Naruto felt he really couldn't handle that. If it were roasted, maybe, but eaten raw? You'd have to kill him first.
Moreover, with the Nine-Tails' size and pride, as soon as that toad saw the Nine-Tails, it would be doomed. Whether the Nine-Tails acted or let Naruto act, it would definitely be silenced. Given the relationship between Mount Myōboku and Konoha, and Naruto's status as a summoner, killing a toad would result in Naruto being hunted by the entire village.
Konoha was just that strange a village. If Naruto's Tailed Beast went berserk and killed two people, everyone could still sit down and talk. But if Naruto killed a toad, sorry, you might as well wait for death. It was pretty much like the consequences of killing a chicken at the village entrance in a certain game called The Elder Scrolls.
"Uh… alright." Jiraiya didn't decline him this time. After a moment of consideration, he agreed. There were both advantages and disadvantages for a jinchuriki to learn sealing jutsu.
The advantage was that, unless under special circumstances, there was no need to worry about seal leakage. The disadvantage was that if they turned evil, it would be a catastrophic disaster for Konoha. However, he trusted Naruto; this child might be playful,
but his overall perspective and character were not bad. Most of his sealing jutsu knowledge came from Minato and Kushina, and Minato had learned it from Kushina. Now teaching it to her child, he would have an explanation when he eventually met her below. At the very least, he hadn't allowed her legacy to be broken.
After the sealing was complete and they chatted for a while, Fujiko Yanagi, along with Shizuka, took the National Face Man and left. However, the National Face Man would be included as a complimentary gift to Naruto during the trade a month later.
That night, Jiraiya, in high spirits after resolving his worries, poured himself a few drinks. He then pulled out a scroll and said, "Come on, let's go outside, I'll teach you sealing jutsu."
"Oh?" Naruto followed, confused. Couldn't he learn sealing jutsu indoors?
They walked outside to an open space. Jiraiya placed his hand on the scroll. "Open."
Bang.
"This, this, this…" Naruto stammered, pointing at the mountain of books that made him doubt his life. Although he had previously thought about reading more books and newspapers and looking less at beautiful Uchiha, this was simply too many books! He'd be better off finding a beautiful Uchiha and borrowing a pair of eyes to copy.
Suddenly realizing a possibility, Naruto asked, "These… they're not just indexes, are they?"
"No." Jiraiya pulled out a book, several inches thick, from the pile. "Sealing jutsu heavily relies on theory and calculation. These are mostly experiences summarized by previous generations." Handing the book to Naruto, Jiraiya continued, "This one is considered an introduction. You read it first, and if you have any questions, ask me."
"Introduction" my ass. I'd be in my grave by the time I finished learning this.
"I'm not learning it," Naruto declared, throwing down the gauntlet.
"Since you want to learn, you must show dedication. Don't give up easily. These may seem like a lot, but once you've learned them, you'll understand that they're merely the tip of the iceberg of sealing jutsu."
Old man, do you even know how to persuade someone to study? The more you talk like that, the less I want to learn.
"Just try it. If you have good talent, it won't take many years," Jiraiya shoved the book into Naruto's hand.
What talent do I have? If I had this drive to study, I should be doing my PhD at Tsinghua now, instead of getting goosebumps here. However, idle hands are the devil's playthings, so he might as well try. What if he finished learning and wasn't dead yet? "Uh… I'll try."
Learn he would, but the method needed changing. He put down the book, made hand seals, "Multiple Shadow Clone Jutsu!"
Bang, bang, bang…
When the smoke cleared, over three hundred Shadow Clones stood in formation. It was too dark to see clearly, so Naruto rubbed out a Rasengan, injected chakra to use as a light source, held the Rasengan in one hand and the book in the other, and asked, "Anyone here like reading?"
Naruto decided to try the Shadow Clone learning method. Each of his Shadow Clones had different interests and hobbies; perhaps one of them liked to read.
A deathly silence. It was as quiet as a morgue. Not a single peep.
"Not a single one? Then I'll just call on someone randomly?" Naruto wondered. This shouldn't be happening. He was very diligent during his college entrance exams back then. Could it be that he hadn't created enough clones?
The clones looked up at the sky, or down at the ground, kicking dirt. None of them looked at Naruto. It was just like lazy students when the teacher was about to call on someone to answer a question: I won't look at you, so don't call on me either.
Jiraiya: "…"
"Fine… disperse," Naruto gave up. His Shadow Clones were special; he didn't like to force them to learn or they might just explode in frustration. He couldn't force them.
A wave of relief washed over the clones, who celebrated by clapping their hats, joyfully exploding into puffs of smoke. They had been terrified a moment ago and needed to vent.
"Ignorant," Jiraiya re-sealed the mountain of books, threw one at Naruto, and walked away.
Words spoken are like spilled water; there was nothing for it. Naruto had no choice but to take the book back to his room and begin perusing it.
Two minutes later.
"What the heck is all this?!"
He knew all the characters, but strung together, they looked like something from a heavenly script. Couldn't their Shinobi World's introductory textbooks be written a bit more simply?! How much effort did the Sage of Six Paths have to put in to develop this sealing system just to seal his own mother?
Thinking of the Sage of Six Paths, Naruto had a sudden idea. "Hey, Nine-Tails, why don't you learn it?" He couldn't go on with this. The Nine-Tails might as well open its own gate. Besides, it was a form of legacy for it to learn the sealing system its father had developed.
Naruto, who hadn't been declined by Jiraiya, was declined by the Nine-Tails this time.
"Get lost."
If this old man could learn sealing jutsu, would he need Naruto? He had already seen enough from Uzumaki Mito and Kushina.
Two months later, Mount Myōboku.
A blonde-haired figure wearing a white robe and a hood sat on a giant tree leaf, reading a book. Every day, during breaks from Sage Arts training and after playing shogi with the Nine-Tails in the evening,
he would read this book. He had finished a small portion of the book, but he hadn't really understood much of it. This showed that learning sealing jutsu was much harder than learning to play the piano.
However, Naruto didn't put too much thought into it. He was only learning sealing jutsu because he simply found it interesting.
It wasn't as if he couldn't unleash the fox spirit; it was just that this particular fox spirit was too lazy to move. Otherwise, with the two of them working from the inside and out, they could forcefully break through the seal.
Putting down the book, Naruto waved his hand, opening a teleportation gate. Today was again Sakura's private Sasuke body check-up session. In two months, negotiations with Orochimaru had progressed; only the timing remained unsettled.
Having had her fill of touching him, Sakura contentedly withdrew her hand. "Naruto, the next check-up might be delayed by a few days."
"What's wrong?"
"I'm participating in the Chunin Exams. I've already signed up."
"You're taking the Chunin Exams?! Why didn't you tell me earlier?! Sasuke and I could have been in the same team!" Did I just miss out on a Chunin Exam that finally happened?
"I'm sorry. Lady Tsunade said the first stage of the exam would be in Konoha, and it wasn't convenient for you two to stay in Konoha for long, so she told me not to tell you." Saying this, Sakura took a small box from her bag and presented it with both hands. "This is my apology."
Tsunade was the Hokage and her master; her orders couldn't be disobeyed. But Naruto had taken good care of her, so Sakura, feeling guilty towards Naruto, had prepared an apology gift early.
Naruto took the box but didn't open it. "Never mind, I don't blame you. It's all that old… maiden Tsunade's fault."
After sending Sakura away with a clone, Naruto turned to Sasuke, who was getting dressed. "Interested in coming along for some fun?" He knew the final location of this Chunin Exam; he just didn't know the exact time. Now, he could roughly estimate the timing.
"No interest."
"Then I'll go by myself."
Since none of you want to play with me, then don't blame me for causing trouble.
