Chapter 98 - CHAPTER 98

Activate the Sharingan

Congratulations, host. Sign-in successful!

Reward received: Three-Tomoe Sharingan!

As the reward was granted, Xu Fan felt a surge of power ripple through his optic nerves and into his brain. His vision sharpened drastically, and with it came a strange familiarity—he had awakened not just the Sharingan, but a fully matured Three-Tomoe Sharingan, the pinnacle of standard Uchiha evolution before reaching the Mangekyō stage.

So this is the power of the Uchiha… Xu Fan thought. What would they say if they saw a non-Uchiha activate this level of the Sharingan on his first awakening?

Elsewhere, tension thickened within the Uchiha district. Uchiha Itachi, bearing the heavy burden of loyalty to both the clan and the village, had made his decision.

> "The elders are aware of our coup. The village has caught wind of our plans. We must abandon this course," Itachi said in a grave tone.

He wasn't speaking for himself—these were the words of Uchiha Fugaku, the clan head and Itachi's father, though his whereabouts remained unknown. At that moment, Itachi's demand broke the silence:

> "Where is Uzumaki Naruto?"

The question made several clan members narrow their eyes. Itachi's unwavering tone—and the fact that he'd brought a stranger, Xu Fan, to the heart of the Uchiha compound—only raised suspicion.

> "You're siding with the village now?" one elder barked.

Murmurs turned to growls. With Fugaku absent and Itachi calling for the Nine-Tails' jinchūriki, many Uchiha were convinced their leadership had already been compromised by Danzō and the elders.

> "We trusted Fugaku. We believed he'd become the Fifth Hokage…"

> "But he handed us over to the village!"

> "This is our only chance to restore the Uchiha name!"

> "We built the village! The glory belongs to us!"

The cries of defiance swelled as a few activated their Sharingan in unison. A prominent Uchiha warrior stepped forward, his Three-Tomoe Sharingan blazing with killing intent.

> "With or without Fugaku, the coup will proceed. Tonight, we strike the village elders!"

As if on cue, a squad surrounded Itachi and Xu Fan.

> "We'll cleanse our ranks first," one hissed, accusing them of betrayal.

Itachi sighed heavily. Their fear has made them irrational. They no longer trust me… and Xu Fan isn't one of them. To them, he's an outsider.

Yet what no one knew was that Xu Fan had also awakened the Three-Tomoe Sharingan.

He could've used that fact to earn their trust… but he wasn't interested in diplomacy.

> "I only asked one question," Xu Fan muttered coldly. "Where is Uzumaki Naruto?"

That confirmed it for the Uchiha—Xu Fan was with the village.

> "So be it," Itachi said softly, preparing to defend himself. "Xu Fan…"

But Xu Fan was already moving. With a clap of his hands, he slammed his palms together.

> "Wood Release: Deep Forest Emergence!"

The ground beneath Naka Shrine quaked violently. The ancient stone cracked as thick roots burst forth, growing into towering trees in seconds. The shrine's foundation split apart. Giant trunks ensnared dozens of Uchiha before they could even form hand signs.

> "Who is this guy?!"

> "That's Wood Release—! Is he… from the Senju?!"

> "No… that chakra… is it like Hashirama's?!"

Those who hadn't been captured tried to cast genjutsu, activating their Sharingan in desperation.

> "Hit him with Genjutsu!"

> "Trap him in illusion!"

Xu Fan didn't even flinch.

> "That's your idea of Genjutsu?" he said with contempt. Then he looked to Itachi. "Show them what real illusion is."

Itachi instantly understood.

> "Tsukuyomi."

The moment he made eye contact, the remaining attackers collapsed to their knees, trapped in a world where a second felt like days of torment.

The battlefield fell silent.

Most of the Uchiha had been sealed inside wooden trunks, their faces peeking through knots in the bark just enough to breathe. Others lay defeated, overwhelmed by illusions beyond their comprehension.

Itachi stared at Xu Fan in disbelief.

> So this is the power of Wood Release… and he controlled the battlefield in moments.

> And I—stupidly—asked if we needed to kill them…

The truth was clear now: if Xu Fan had wanted, the entire Uchiha clan could've been eradicated in seconds. The only reason they still drew breath… was because he didn't see them as a threat.

The Uchiha survivors were stunned beyond words.

> "He ignored our Genjutsu… is he really… Senju?"

> "The First Hokage… Senju Hashirama…"

> "A shinobi even stronger than Uchiha Madara…"

One by one, the proud elite of the Uchiha clan began to grasp the terrifying truth.

They hadn't challenged a traitor.

They had provoked a god.
