Chapter 13 - 13: New Secretary

When Oscar woke up the next morning, he was alone. At first, he had no memory of what had happened. But with the sudden pain in his lower back and a headache, he knew something was definitely going on. After somehow getting out of bed, he looked around, since when did his room smell like Victor? And suddenly, memories of last night came flooding back to him.

He looked in the mirror, his clothes and body were clean, but the skin exposed by the clothes was completely covered in bite marks. Oscar hit his forehead, he couldn't believe he had lost himself like this. Not only himself, he had also sent Victor into heat. "I made a stupid mistake." he thought.

After he came to himself a little more, he went downstairs, the kitchen smelled nice as usual. Today wasn't the weekend, but Victor had chosen to stay home. It was a comfort expected from someone who was boss.

Victor looked back when he heard Oscar's footsteps.

"Good morning," he said gently, looking a little calmer today. When Oscar responded with a low hum, Victor wanted to give him a little more time.

Oscar was sitting in the living room after breakfast. But his mind was elsewhere. When Victor put a glass of water and painkillers in front of him, he took a deep breath and spoke.

"Whitmore." He called him by his last name again.

"Yes?"

"I have to get back to work." Oscar was going to continue, but Victor's sudden gaze was frightening.

"You can't go, you've had a lot of trouble at the casino."

"What do you expect me to do?" Oscar frowned. "You're the one who transferred my mother's debt to me, and now you're going to stop me from working?"

Victor was silent for a moment. Oscar was right, he had transferred the debt from years ago to him just so he would agree to work with him.

"Don't go back to the casino," he said in a low voice. The image of the day he was beaten was still in his mind. "If you want to work that hard, work for me."

"What?" Oscar paused. Victor might have a company, but hiring an omega who hadn't even gone to college would be a turnoff.

"You don't have to do any hard work," Victor said, his words honest. "Just stay in my office, like a secretary, but you don't have to see anyone you don't want to."

"But..." Oscar wasn't sure. He could guess the company a little, he felt a little crushed. Victor held out his hand, waiting for Oscar to take it in his.

"Don't worry, it's just a little program follow-up. Paul does most of the work anyway. You two will get along well."

Oscar looked at his hand but didn't reach out. He wanted to pay off the debt as soon as possible and just live a quiet life, the faster he paid off the debt, the faster he could get out of this life.

"Just until the debt is paid off," he asked for confirmation.

"As you wish," Victor said as he pulled his hand back. And so Oscar had now become an employee of the company.

Oscar's worries had subsided after spending some time at the company the next day. Victor was not a man who tolerated having someone in his room, even Paul's desk was outside the room. But the table prepared for Oscar was in front of one of the windows with the best view in Victor's room.

Oscar slowly began to understand. He didn't really do much work as Victor promised, he had Victor's schedule and it was simple tasks like reminding him or informing him of changes in the schedule.

"If I went to college, could I work in a place like this?" he couldn't help but think. When he was young, he had always wanted to be a successful person, but over time, his only dream had become a quiet life.

Victor had told him that he didn't have to talk to anyone, but Oscar had already made a few friends. The people in the company were not only successful, but also friendly. Victor was someone who wanted to hire successful people with good social skills who could get along well with people.

He didn't even realize how time passed until the evening, the tiredness he felt at the casino wasn't as bad here. As they drove home together, Victor glanced at Oscar out of the corner of his eye.

"Are you tired?" he asked.

"No, I didn't do much. And your employees are nice people, they're nice to me." Victor agreed, a little more pleased.

"They must have liked you, Paul says so."

"I think they like everyone," Oscar replied sarcastically. But Victor didn't laugh.

"Why don't you admit that they might have liked you? Even if you're not nice to me, you're nice to others and you put other people before yourself, so they like you." There was silence in the car for a moment.

"Hm." Oscar turned his head toward the window and didn't respond. Of course, Victor hadn't said this to make him happy, he was someone who liked Oscar too. But he didn't know what it was about Oscar that he liked.

And from that day on, Oscar became known in the company as "Mr. Whitmore's secretary." Oscar was only interested in the company because he didn't want to get involved with the dangerous side of Victor's business. He didn't want to know how the weapons were smuggled across the border.

One day, Victor walked into the office and seemed nervous, his pheromones were heavy. He sat down in his chair, sighed, and closed his eyes.

"What's wrong?" Oscar thought and slowly approached Victor. Victor was both respected and feared in the company, but Oscar had no effect on either of them.

"Whitmore?" Oscar called out in a low voice, and Victor opened his eyes and met Oscar's. He held out his hand, looking like a sulky little child, and Oscar couldn't help but find it cute.

When Oscar took his hand, Victor gently pulled him closer. He wrapped one arm around Oscar's waist and buried his face in his chest. "Stay like this for a bit," he said in a husky voice, inhaling the scent of Oscar's pheromones that were spreading ever so slightly.

Normally, Oscar would have made fun of him by calling him a "kid," but seeing the tension on him, Oscar kept quiet and let Victor hug him. He had also been calming down recently thanks to Victor's pheromones and for no reason, he wanted to be with him. He was too proud to admit it.

Then the door suddenly opened and a woman in her forties entered, dragging a man behind her. Paul called out regretfully.

"Ms. Melanie, you can't come in like this!" he said, but it was useless. When Victor slowly raised his head, he met his mother's eyes. Melanie looked at her son first, then at the omega her son was hugging, and narrowed her eyes a little.

"Boss, I'm sorry, but I couldn't stop them." Paul bowed his head and spoke. Victor didn't say anything and looked at Oscar.

"Wait outside with Paul, I'll call you later." Oscar didn't understand what was going on, but he agreed and slowly walked away from Victor. Melanie looked Oscar up and down as he walked.

When Melanie, Victor, and the other man were left in the room, Victor sighed.

"What brought you here, mother? It's not nice to barge into my room like that." Melanie frowned.

"David told me everything, you killed someone at the casino and got caught." David bowed his head, he was Victor's cousin and an alpha, but he was afraid of his aunt. Victor smiled wryly.

"And he told you that the person I killed was an omega, right? Just as I thought." He looked at David. "My dear cousin misrepresented the situation for some reason. He brings an omega into my room and the omega he brings turns out to be one of the enemy clans."

Melanie swallowed, but her expression did not soften.

"You got caught by someone, right?"

"Yes, but he wasn't the one who reported me. It must have been the work of the cleaning crew." David looked up.

"But why would they? They already deleted the security footage."

"I'm not sure who did it, but the excuse they came up with was false. He introduced himself as a client, but the tip-off was blamed on someone else."

"I'm not letting this go, Victor," Melanie said. Then she paused as if something had occurred to her. "Who was that guy earlier? Why were you hugging him like that?"

"Mother, you brought my cousin with you and interrupted my work," Victor said, basically dismissing them. Melanie gave him an angry look and left the room with David. She wasn't going to let this go.

Victor sighed and leaned back. "Should I have said that he is my lover?" he thought, and smiled in spite of himself. It would have been nice. Of course they weren't in a relationship, but Victor wanted to see his mother's reaction.
