Chapter 24 - A NEW GLOW IN SCHOOL

The following morning, as the first light of dawn gently kissed the horizon, Havi was already preparing for the day ahead.

After bidding a fond farewell to his parents, he strode confidently towards Telaga City State Senior High School. At that very moment, Havi was a student in his final year of school.

He had risen early, determined not to be late, for the journey from his village to Telaga City was long and weary. Havi boarded the public transport with quiet resolve.

As he approached the school gates, a profound sense of emotion washed over him. Life, in its present form, felt like a true blessing.

A throng of students, both boys and girls, greeted him warmly. It was, after all, thanks to Havi that Telaga City State Senior High School had become a school of some renown. For Havi was among the top ten brightest students in the entire province of Hensa.

The teachers, too, took great pride in a pupil like Havi. He was the one who had brought glory to the school, for it was only through his achievements that the school's name had been made to shine.

Upon entering the classroom, a wave of astonishment swept through his classmates. Whether they were fully aware of it or not, they were taken aback, for Havi now appeared not only fairer of skin but undeniably more handsome than before.

Just last Saturday, he had been quite ordinary in appearance. Havi, however, simply smiled. They knew not the changes that had taken place within him. He bore their astonishment with quiet grace, understanding their confusion without a word.

Havi entered the classroom, where the usual chatter of his classmates slowly faded into a stunned silence. Whispers swirled through the room, but Havi's calm demeanor only seemed to amplify the wonder in their eyes.

As he made his way to his desk, he noticed the curious gazes from every corner of the room, as though they were all waiting for something to happen. His friends, most of whom had known him since his first year, couldn't quite place what had changed, only that something about Havi was undeniably different.

Finally, someone broke the silence. It was Arman, one of Havi's closest friends. Arman, usually the first to crack a joke, looked at Havi with wide eyes and raised an eyebrow. "Oi, Havi," he said, his voice tinged with disbelief, "Did you get yourself a makeover or something?"

Havi chuckled softly, brushing off the comment with a nonchalant shrug. "A makeover? Nah, just a little change of routine, I guess."

Arman wasn't convinced. He leaned forward on his desk, eyes narrowing. "Change of routine? Mate, you look like a different person. You've got this... glow about you. And your skin! It's practically glowing, no joke." He gestured to Havi's fairer complexion, which had now become the talk of the classroom.

The room fell into an uneasy hush as more students began to lean in, eavesdropping on the conversation. Havi smiled, knowing that Arman wasn't one to easily let things slide. His friend had always been the inquisitive one, always asking questions before anyone else could.

"Seriously, Havi, what's going on? You've been different lately," Arman continued, his curiosity barely contained. "What happened over the weekend? You don't just wake up looking like... like this!"

Havi met Arman's gaze for a moment before speaking. "It's nothing, really. Just... taking better care of myself, I suppose."

"You're pulling my leg, aren't you?" Arman laughed, but there was a nervous edge to his voice. The other students, sensing the tension, began to whisper amongst themselves, clearly intrigued by the exchange.

Before Havi could respond, another voice interrupted. It was Aira, a girl who sat in the row behind him. She had always been kind to Havi, but recently, her attention towards him had become noticeably warmer, even curious. "Arman's right, Havi. You don't look the same. It's like you've transformed overnight." Her words were sincere, but there was a hint of admiration in her tone. "You've always been smart, but now... well, you look like someone who could lead the whole school. What happened?"

Havi paused, considering how to answer. He knew that the truth would be difficult to explain, so he decided to keep it simple. "It's just... life, I guess," he replied, offering a small, cryptic smile. "We all change, don't we?"

Aira leaned forward, her curiosity piqued. "But how? I mean, it's not like a change that happens overnight. Something must've happened to you. You were just like everyone else on Saturday. What made you... this?"

The rest of the class had now gathered around, their eyes fixed on Havi. The room was filled with anticipation, as though they all awaited some profound revelation. Havi took a deep breath. He wasn't sure if he was ready to explain it all, but it seemed like the moment had arrived.

"Alright," he said, his voice steady but with a hint of weariness. "I suppose you all deserve to know the truth."

The room quieted even further, and all eyes were on him now. Havi stood up, his heart racing a little at the thought of revealing something so personal. But in that moment, he knew that it was time.

"I've been through a lot recently, more than any of you could imagine," Havi began, his voice low. "It started when I discovered something about myself. Something that had been hidden for a long time. And over the past few days, I've been... changing. Not just physically, but mentally and emotionally as well."

The class was hanging on his every word. Aira looked at him, her eyes soft with understanding, while Arman still seemed skeptical but intrigued. Havi continued, "It's not some magical transformation or a result of some fancy treatment. It's something that came from within. I've been learning how to connect with myself in a way that I never did before. I've discovered things about my past, about my heritage, that have helped me see the world in a new light."

The students exchanged glances, their expressions a mix of confusion and curiosity. Havi smiled, sensing their bewilderment. "I know it sounds strange. But trust me when I say that the change wasn't overnight. It's the culmination of a long process. One that involved facing things I had been running from for years."

Arman leaned back in his chair, folding his arms across his chest. "So, what are you saying, Havi? You've been secretly some sort of... I don't know, a spiritual guru or something?"

Havi laughed softly, shaking his head. "No, nothing like that. But I've been through some intense personal reflection. And I guess the result is that I've learned how to be more... myself. And in doing so, it's reflected on the outside too."

Aira raised her hand, her expression thoughtful. "But doesn't that mean you've been keeping something from us, Havi? I mean, we've been friends for a while. Don't we deserve to know what's really going on?"

Havi looked at her, his smile softening. "It's not that I've been keeping anything from you. It's just... I wasn't ready to share all of it yet. But I think you're right. I shouldn't keep secrets from the people who mean something to me."

The room fell silent for a moment, each student processing Havi's words in their own way. Finally, Arman spoke up, a teasing grin appearing on his face. "Well, whatever you did, Havi, just don't forget about us when you're off leading the school to greatness, yeah?"

The rest of the class chuckled, and the tension in the room seemed to ease. Havi couldn't help but smile at Arman's words. Though the path ahead was still uncertain, he knew that his friends would be there, supporting him through the changes and challenges that lay ahead.

"Don't worry, Arman," Havi replied, his tone lighthearted. "I won't forget where I came from."

And with that, the classroom returned to its usual buzz, but there was a new sense of respect and admiration for Havi in the air.

For while the mystery of his transformation might not have been fully understood, the students of Telaga City State Senior High School knew that Havi was no longer just the quiet, brilliant student they once knew, he was someone destined for greatness.
