Chapter 48 - BETWEEN TWO LOVES

(Doctor's Office)

"Your friend, Havi, is in stable condition. There are a few minor contusions on his body, but nothing of great concern."

"I have just examined him during my rounds and will prescribe his medication shortly. He is fit to be discharged today."

"You may settle the administrative formalities at the hospital before you leave."

Dr. Sarah, the attending physician, delivered these words with a measured tone, her expression calm yet observant.

Diana exhaled a breath she had not realised she was holding, a quiet relief settling in her chest.

"That's a great relief. Thank you, Doctor," she said earnestly.

Dr. Sarah inclined her head in acknowledgement, "Take care of yourself, and especially your friend. During our assessment, we found his condition to be remarkable. However…" She hesitated, her gaze lingering on Diana, a flicker of uncertainty crossing her features.

Diana noted the pause, her brows drawing together slightly, "Doctor? Is there something wrong with him?"

A small smile played on Dr. Sarah's lips, but her eyes betrayed the weight of her thoughts.

There was something about Havi's results that did not sit within the realm of ordinary medicine.

"There is something you should know," she began carefully. "From the X-rays and our other medical evaluations, we noticed traces of regeneration across multiple regions of his body. What I mean to say is… his age."

She took a steady breath before continuing.

"Based on our studies, the composition of his bones suggests an age between forty and fifty years."

Diana blinked, the words settling over her like a slow-moving shadow.

"And yet," the doctor went on, "for reasons I cannot yet explain, his skeletal structure appears to have undergone a form of regeneration, restoring itself to a significantly younger state. This process, according to our findings, only commenced within the last one to three days."

A silence stretched between them, vast and weighted.

Diana's pulse quickened. If what Dr. Sarah said was true, then Havi's claim, his impossible assertion of having lived a life before this one, was not merely the ramblings of a troubled mind.

It was a truth woven into his very existence.

Her voice, when it came, was quiet yet laced with urgency, "Doctor… do you believe in reincarnation?"

Dr. Sarah regarded her for a moment, then offered a small, enigmatic smile, "The nature of existence is filled with mysteries beyond our comprehension. Whether reincarnation is among them… that is for the universe to decide."

Diana nodded, gratitude and uncertainty mingling within her.

She offered the doctor a sincere word of thanks before stepping out into the corridor, her thoughts a turbulent storm.

As she made her way back to the emergency ward, Dr. Sarah's words echoed in her mind, reverberating with a certainty she could not ignore.

Havi was not lying. And that truth changed everything.

(Havi's Room)

"Havi… today you can go home," Diana said, stepping into the room where Havi was resting.

Havi nodded, trying to sit up. After lying in bed for hours, his body ached, and the motion felt a little stiff.

"So, when exactly can I leave? Is it still a few more hours to wait?" he asked.

"As soon as I sort out the administrative fees and pick up your medication from the pharmacy," Diana replied, her eyes lingering on him with an almost strange curiosity.

Havi, sensing the odd look she was giving him, raised an eyebrow, "Diana, what's the matter? You're staring at me like I'm some kind of ghost."

"A ghost that's been reincarnated!" Diana shot back quickly, her tone playful but laden with meaning.

Havi chuckled, shaking his head, "Oh, come on. No one would ever believe such a thing."

But Diana didn't laugh. She fixed him with a serious gaze, her words steady and full of resolve.

"I believe you now."

Havi's heart skipped a beat at her unwavering conviction. He met her gaze, searching for any trace of doubt, but found none.

"Tell me everything, Havi! Is it true? Did you really make me wait more than twenty years in your past life?" Diana pressed, her voice raw with emotion.

Havi hesitated, a deep sigh escaping him as he gathered his thoughts.

He could feel the weight of her question. He knew this was the moment.

"If that's what you want," he began, his voice soft but steady, "then I will tell you everything. About Nuriana Salim too. My connection to her, and all that happened between us. That is… if you're still willing to hear it. If you still trust me."

Diana nodded, her gaze unwavering, "Tell me, Havi. No matter how dark or painful the story, I will listen."

Havi took a deep breath, the air feeling heavy in his lungs as he began to unravel his past.

As he spoke, his story took shape in the quiet space of the room, layer by layer, until every detail stood exposed.

Diana listened intently, her emotions shifting with each revelation.

She smiled at some parts, laughed at others, and at times, felt a deep sorrow, an aching anger rising within her when she learned of Havi's criminal past.

When the truth came out, that Havi had become a criminal after the death of his parents, Diana almost struck him in fury.

Her jealousy flared when she discovered that Nuriana, one of Havi's victims, was the very one who had shaped both his salvation and his damnation.

"So… that's it. That's the truth. No secrets, no fabrications," Havi finished, his voice quieter now, as if the weight of his confession had left him drained.

Diana remained silent. A few lingering tears traced the curve of her cheek, though she didn't wipe them away.

"Havi…"

"If everything you've said is true," she said, her voice barely a whisper, "then tell me, who will you choose? Me… or Nuriana?"

"You owe me your love, but at the same time, you feel indebted to her, the woman who saved you, and also the one who destroyed you."

Nuriana's name struck Havi's mind like a bolt of lightning, sharp, sudden, and painful.

Even Havi didn't know the answer to that question.

The pressure of it all caused him to speak in haste, blurting out, "Both."

Diana recoiled as if slapped, the shock and disbelief evident on her face, "You… greedy bastard," she muttered, the words dripping with both frustration and hurt.

Havi smirked, "Well, I am a man, aren't I? There are far more women than men in the world. If every man was forced to pick only one woman, then what would become of all the others? A tragic fate, don't you think?" He stretched lazily, clearly unfazed.

Diana's cheeks flushed with a mixture of embarrassment and indignation, "You pervert," she retorted, her voice sharp with annoyance.

"Come on, neither of you would mind, right?" Havi teased, a playful grin spreading across his face.

"You scoundrel!" Diana hissed, then immediately reached out to pinch his arm.

"Ow! That hurts! Stop it! My IV might come out! Damn you, Diana…" Havi yelped, trying to wriggle free from her grip.

Diana's lips curled into a mischievous grin, "Serves you right! Men like you deserve to be castrated!"

"Oi, you two!"

A nurse suddenly appeared at the door, her face contorted in irritation.

"This is an emergency ward, not a hotel! Could you keep it down?" she snapped, her patience clearly worn thin.

"Sorry…" both Diana and Havi muttered in unison.

The nurse folded her arms, clearly unimpressed, "You know, today your boyfriend is meant to be discharged, right? You should finish up the paperwork and take him home. No more delays."

"Y-Yes… right away," Diana stammered, turning to quickly head for the administration desk.

Havi couldn't help but shake his head at her childish behaviour, a soft chuckle escaping him.

He watched Diana's retreating figure, then turned his gaze back to the window, his thoughts shifting to the complexity of his feelings.

"Between you and Nuriana… both of you have your own strengths. If you want perfection in a woman, that's impossible. But…"

He paused, his eyes burning with a new fire, his words laced with something darker.

"There is a way to achieve that perfection. The only way…"

He let the sentence hang in the air, the smirk on his face widening.

"…Is for the two of you to be with me."
