Chapter 43 - Resignation, Vindication, and Public Announcements!

With the study plan in place, Dumbledore quickly assumed his role and began teaching.

The lessons covered a wide range of topics, including spell theory, pronunciation, wand movements, and the intent behind casting. Starting from the basics and gradually delving deeper, the classes were complemented by practical exercises, all delivered with great care and attention.

Dumbledore was quite skilled in teaching magic.

After all, before becoming headmaster, he had spent many years as the Transfiguration professor at Hogwarts.

This significantly reduced the difficulty for the five students, who listened attentively, driven by their dreams and the desire to grow stronger.

...

Teaching at the Dursley household was an ongoing process, during which Dumbledore also had to manage his time carefully to handle several major tasks according to Dudley's plans.

August 5th

Cornelius Fudge, the Minister of Magic under house arrest for corruption charges, attempted to rally his loyalists to stage a comeback and reclaim his power.

However, Kingsley Shacklebolt and a team of Aurors deliberately allowed him to escape, only to follow him and capture his entire network in one fell swoop.

With Fudge's influence waning, the pure-blood families that once supported him abandoned him.

The trial process accelerated significantly.

August 6th

Dumbledore personally added numerous protective charms to the Dursley household. He also cast the Fidelius Charm on the master bedroom where the Dursleys slept, with Dudley appointed as the Secret Keeper.

If necessary, the Fidelius Charm's protection could be extended to cover the entire Dursley residence.

Additionally, in the master bedroom protected by the Fidelius Charm, Dumbledore arranged for a special Floo Network connection.

This fireplace operated on a fixed, secure line. By tossing in a handful of Floo Powder, one could travel directly to a hidden room in the Hog's Head Inn in Hogsmeade without needing to announce the destination.

Dumbledore had already coordinated with his brother, Aberforth Dumbledore, the owner of the Hog's Head Inn.

Although their relationship had been strained since the tragic death of their sister, they were still able to maintain a cordial rapport when it came to matters of great importance and helping others.

August 8th

The Wizengamot officially convened to try Cornelius Fudge on corruption charges, with Chief Warlock Albus Dumbledore presiding over the trial.

Faced with overwhelming and irrefutable evidence, Cornelius Fudge had no choice but to plead guilty.

He was immediately stripped of his position as Minister of Magic and barred from holding any future office.

After the verdict was announced, Cornelius Fudge broke down in court, angrily denouncing Dumbledore.

In a final, bitter outburst, he shouted, "Dumbledore, you were always after my power!" as he reluctantly stepped down.

Fudge's loyalists were also demoted or dismissed, depending on their involvement.

Dolores Umbridge, the short, plump witch with a penchant for pink clothing and an equally strong obsession with power, was stripped of all her positions and reduced to the lowest level of clerical work at the Ministry, tasked with registering wand information for visitors.

Following the trial, Dumbledore proposed that Kingsley Shacklebolt, a senior Auror, succeed Fudge as the next Minister of Magic.

Forty percent of the attending Wizengamot members immediately agreed, while thirty percent reserved their judgment, and the remaining thirty percent suggested a vote among several candidates.

August 9th

Dumbledore convened another Wizengamot meeting to address two critical issues: the re-examination of a wrongful conviction from forty-nine years ago and the announcement of Voldemort's return.

Thanks to Dumbledore's formidable influence, the upper echelons of the British wizarding community gathered to witness the proceedings.

Hagrid extracted a silvery memory strand from his mind and placed it in a large Pensieve.

Through the Pensieve, the attending witches and wizards experienced the terrifying events that had unfolded in the Gringotts vault on July 31st:

Voldemort, slowly approaching Hagrid and Harry, confessed to framing Hagrid all those years ago.

Even though it had been nearly a decade since they had last seen that fearsome face—now attached to the back of someone else's head—the memory sent shivers down their spines.

Seizing the moment, Dumbledore used Voldemort's own confession from the memory, along with recent testimony from the ghost of Moaning Myrtle, who had recorded her account of seeing a pair of terrifying yellow, slitted eyes before her death—not the eight eyes of an Acromantula—to fully exonerate Hagrid.

Hagrid was awarded compensation from the Ministry and the Wizengamot, and his right to use a wand and practice magic was restored.

Next, Dumbledore presented his own memory of casting Finite Incantatem at Voldemort's main soul, forcing the weakened Voldemort to escape using a Portkey made from Quirrell's turban.

This served to deliver both good and bad news to the wizarding world.

The bad news was that Voldemort had returned, and witches and wizards needed to be on guard.

The good news was that Voldemort was currently weak, requiring a host body to sustain himself.

If anyone spotted Voldemort, they were to immediately notify the Ministry Aurors and Dumbledore.

During the meeting, Dumbledore also issued a stern warning to the pure-blood families who had once been Death Eaters, cautioning them against aiding Voldemort, or they would face consequences they could not bear.

These opportunistic individuals, who always sided with the strongest, naturally made verbal assurances, not daring to cross Dumbledore while he was in power.

But what they truly thought and what schemes they might be plotting behind the scenes remained unknown.

Dumbledore, though not a natural Legilimens, could easily guess their intentions without reading their minds.

He already had a perfect plan in place to ensure that, regardless of their schemes, they would soon fall in line.

August 10th

The Daily Prophet published the details of the previous day's meeting, sending shockwaves through the British wizarding community and causing mild panic.

The international magical community also felt the ripples.

Meanwhile, the students of the Dursley household's magical lessons had achieved significant progress.

Vernon and Petunia had each mastered two simple spells.

Additionally, Dumbledore obtained two precious protective cloaks from his friend, the 600-year-old alchemist Nicolas Flamel, and gave them to the Dursleys.

These cloaks, rated as B-grade by the system, offered strong resistance to most offensive spells, though they could not block the Killing Curse.

This provided another layer of protection for the Dursleys' safety.

To maintain the power of the maternal protection charm on Harry, the Dursleys could not relocate abroad. They needed to preserve the concept of "home" at 4 Privet Drive, which would not hold if only Dudley and Harry remained.

To ensure his parents' safety as much as possible, Dudley made several requests to Dumbledore. In addition to the Fidelius Charm and the protective cloaks, he also asked for two house-elves to be stationed at the Dursley household.

These elves would ensure that, in the event of an emergency while the Dursleys were out, they could quickly return to 4 Privet Drive.
