Finally, his neighbors couldn't take it and broke into his house and beheaded his wife.
His wife was the main reason he joined the program because he thought that if he didn't have any emotions, he wouldn't feel the pain of losing his beloved.
But obviously he was wrong. The best way to honor his wife was to remember their shared times together and fight to build a world where given another chance, his wife would survive.
He hadn't expected to make the mistake of helping those who took his wife from him.

So, to the aliens, humans were as insignificant as ants and whether they survived or went extinct, it was of no consequence.
