Chapter 141 - Chapter 140: Sangonomiya Kokomi

Watatsumi, meaning "God of the Sea."

Watatsumi Island is located to the west of Yashiori Island. Its plant life is very unique, its terrain is lofty, and it has numerous waterfalls, all of which are said to have been created by Orobashi.

And in the very center of Watatsumi Island lies Sangonomiya Shrine.

Surrounded by mountains and waterfalls, it is the headquarters of the resistance army fighting against the Vision Hunt Decree, resembling the legendary Dragon Palace City.

It is also the political and spiritual center for the inhabitants of Watatsumi Island. Within the palace, guarded by reefs and giant clams, resides the last descendant of the serpent god.

The so-called serpent god is, of course, Orobashi.

In the past, the people of Watatsumi lived year-round in Enkanomiya, deep beneath the sea. It was under the leadership of Orobashi that they came to the surface and developed the Watatsumi Island civilization of today.

After Orobashi was slain by the Raiden Shogun, his body turned into a pile of withered bones, and his resentment condensed into the Tatarigami. However, his will to protect Watatsumi Island did not perish.

This will was integrated into the bloodline of the Sangonomiya clan and has been passed down through generations.

The one who inherits this bloodline is the [Divine Priestess] of Watatsumi Island.

Its meaning is: one who bears the will of a god in a mortal body, protecting this land in the god's stead.

And the current [Divine Priestess] is Sangonomiya Kokomi.

She usually dislikes appearing before ordinary people. Regardless of what people think of her, she is truly lacking in social skills.

In the past... she could at least exchange some pleasantries.

But at some point, even conversing with unfamiliar people became a burden.

"As the ruler, so the people."

The Divine Priestess is of great significance to Watatsumi Island. Countless pairs of eyes are watching her every move, so she must learn to face the things she is not good at.

Such as interacting with strangers, or handling matters that do not interest her.

Until that person appeared.

"That man's speed was even faster than lightning! Even the high and mighty Shogun couldn't catch him, and her divine body was even broken by the reverse-blade sword in his hand! Think about it, everyone, this is a reverse-blade sword, a weapon with the sharp edge facing oneself. Even with that, he could still injure the Shogun. If it were a normal weapon... wouldn't he be able to slay a god?!"

The new recruits surrounded the old veteran who had retired to the rear due to injury, listening to him talk about the Battousai, even forgetting the tasks at hand.

"That Battousai must also be someone watched over by the gods, right? I wonder what kind of Vision he uses? To be swifter than lightning... could it be Anemo?"

In the eyes of these new recruits, only those with Visions could injure a god.

And besides Electro, the element that one would associate with speed was Anemo.

"Hmph, Lord Battousai has no Vision! That man injured the Raiden Shogun with just a reverse-blade sword, without using any elemental power at all. He is a true example of [achieving the might of a god with a mortal body]!"

This was one of the reasons why the Battousai's fame had soared on Watatsumi Island.

Before the Battousai appeared, everyone believed that a strong person must have a Vision. Even Vision holders thought so, because they knew very well the vast difference between someone who could manipulate elemental power and an ordinary person.

It was a chasm that could not be easily crossed with exquisite swordsmanship alone.

It was no exaggeration to say that a Vision holder could easily fight against more than ten ordinary people without Visions.

Bai Luo was the only one to break this rule.

"That Battousai... really has no Vision?"

At this moment, a new recruit sweeping the floor nearby couldn't help but ask.

A Vision had always been his pursuit, but unfortunately, he seemed to lack the talent and had never received the favor of the gods.

"Of course. Isn't there one thing you haven't noticed? The strong individuals who resist the Vision Hunt Decree are usually forcibly included in the decree by the Shogunate's army. But this Battousai is the only one who is wanted, not included in the Vision Hunt Decree."

The old veteran glanced at the crowd with a smug expression, as if the wanted person was not the Battousai, but himself.

But at that moment, that inopportune voice sounded again.

"But... didn't you say before? That the Battousai, like Lord Kazuha, was included in the Vision Hunt Decree?"

"Teppei! Just sweep your floor properly!"

Being refuted again and again, the old veteran's face finally turned ugly.

But facing the fresh blood of the resistance army's future, he couldn't lose his temper and could only vent his dissatisfaction in this way.

The new recruit named Teppei did not get angry. Instead, he smiled kindly and continued his sweeping work.

But...

He still really wanted to go to the front lines and achieve something.

Teppei was, after all, in the minority. Most people's attitude towards the Battousai was like that of the old veteran who had returned from the battlefield wounded, filled with reverence and adoration.

And the reputation of the Divine Priestess was actually showing signs of being overshadowed by the Battousai.

Although the Sangonomiya faction was very dissatisfied with this, Sangonomiya Kokomi herself did not do much to stop the soldiers' blind worship of the Battousai.

Everyone thought it was a sign of the Divine Priestess's respect for the Battousai, and also a way to try and recruit that powerful individual into the resistance army.

Little did they know... that to be out of the spotlight and to be a strategist hiding behind the scenes was her greatest dream.

Because of the Battousai's appearance, she had tasted the feeling of relaxation for the first time in a long time. Even among the pile of tedious official documents at home, there were now a few books on military strategy and light novels.

She was too busy being grateful to the Battousai; how could she possibly stop this?

To rise to a high position at a young age was a great fortune for many.

But for her, the higher the position, the more it was like walking on thin ice.

The slightest misstep would lead to a plunge into a bottomless ice cavern.

"Lady Sangonomiya, Captain Beidou's ship will arrive in a few days. There is an honored guest on board this time. It would be best if you were to go and greet them personally."

The shrine maiden standing beside Sangonomiya Kokomi was one of the shrine maidens of Sangonomiya Shrine.

Unlike the shrine maidens who were born and raised on Watatsumi Island, this shrine maiden was an outsider. However, due to her outstanding work ability and her warm personality, she had been promoted.

But... her position was limited to this.

After all, she was just an outsider.

"I understand."

Closing the book on military strategy in her hand, Sangonomiya Kokomi tidied her already neat clothes slightly and followed her out of the room.

In front of Sangonomiya Shrine, some people who had received the news in advance had been waiting for a long time.

Among them was General Gorou, who had just returned from the front lines.

Compared to the Battousai, he was more concerned about Kazuha, who was on the ship.

The soldiers of the resistance army were a diverse group, and there were ronin among them, but Kazuha was definitely the most special one.

That wind-like feeling made him seem more carefree than the other ronin.

It made Gorou feel that they were very compatible.

"Soldiers! Follow me to welcome our hero!"

After walking out of the room, Sangonomiya Kokomi's aura had undergone a certain change.

Because she knew better than anyone how to make herself look more like a leader.
