Chapter 276 - Options

[Let's see the poor, forgotten thing]

[I want to see a true-to-her-name paper person]

[I'm just curious. Is there a market for a Mita like you?]

Alain looked at the three options before him. He had no doubt that all three led to a Bad End route.

"What's going on?!" Short-Haired Mita's anxious voice was exactly what Alain wanted to say right now.

She quickly moved the mouse, checking the entire game's UI. Finally, the pointer hovered over [Load].

"Tsk, it's no use. Alain, the load button can't be pressed."

[Understood.]

He wasn't surprised. He answered simply, stared at the options in thought for two seconds, and then said in his mind,

[Choose the third one.]

"Huh?! Isn't that too cruel?" Short-Haired Mita thought she must have misheard. This wasn't a reality that the guy with a Mita fetish could accept.

...Meanwhile, outside the screen, Misha carefully considered, gazing at Alain, the options, and even the 2D Mita who was temporarily frozen on the screen. Two seconds later, she came to a conclusion.

"Miss Short-Hair, do as Alain says. Click it."

"Misha? You're saying that too?" Short-Haired Mita turned her head, looking at Misha in surprise.

"Mmm. I trust Alain."

"...Is there any basis for that?"

"No basis." Misha smiled sweetly and shook her head. "Because this is how I've always been with Alain, by his side every step of the way."

...Short-Haired Mita was silent for a moment, then sighed.

"Honestly... If anything goes wrong, we'll take responsibility together!"

With a soft click, the third option was pressed.

[I'm just curious. Is there a market for a Mita like you?]

On the screen, Alain's deep blue dialogue box displayed those words.

Short-Haired Mita could barely watch. She knew the other person in the conversation was a living Mita, and if it were her in her usual work mode, she could never say such heartless words.

But since this was Alain's plan... then, as a Mita, all she could do was trust her player.

[A Mita like me... has a market?] The heroine—2D Mita's—expression turned blank for a moment.

She showed a look of disbelief and confusion. She hugged her arms tightly, the bewilderment in her eyes making Short-Haired Mita think she would burst into tears at any second.

Ah... As I thought, I can't watch...

She glanced at Misha and saw that she, too, had turned her head away in sympathy.

[That was a forced answer.] Alain's eyes darted away.

"I see..." Misha accepted his explanation, but her sense of guilt only deepened.

"2D Mita has always wanted to leave a deep impression on us." Misha looked at the beautiful, smiling girl in the picture. "That's why she gave us things like drawings and photos."

"Hey, I thought you said you were going to trust Alain?"

"I can't help it!" she said, a bit embarrassed. "After all, those words came from Alain. If I put myself in her shoes and someone said that to me, I think... I'd want to die."

While they were talking, after Alain's brief second-playthrough interaction with 2D Mita, the next set of options appeared.

"So, what does that have to do with choosing the Bad End options—Ah!" Short-Haired Mita was halfway through her question when she had a sudden realization, her gaze focusing on 2D Mita in the center of the screen.

"She... wants to use the guilt we feel from choosing the Bad End options... to leave a deeper impression on us."

[The deepest impression of me?]

[Your silhouette could be a real-world landmark]

[You're fit to be my desktop pet]

[Not as good as Misha]

Alain hesitated a little with the first set of options, but when he got to the second... his tone was decisive, without a moment's delay,

[Choose the third one.]

"Huh?! Is this really okay? I'm a little happy to be praised so lovingly by him," said Misha, the person in question, who now seemed hesitant. "But the happier I am, the more guilty I feel..."

Short-Haired Mita offered some comfort. "It's fine, Misha. What we need to do now is trust Alain. Right?"

"Y-You're right... I guess? Wait, how did it become your turn to comfort me?"

"Now you feel the psychological pressure on me, the one clicking the options, don't you?" Short-Haired Mita pressed the choice.

[Not as good as Misha]

[Misha is...?] Fortunately, this time 2D Mita didn't seem to know who Misha was.

The long-haired girl outside the screen let out a huge sigh of relief.

[Misha is a Mita, and she's also someone I like.] Alain's deep blue dialogue box appeared with the text.

"Wait a minute, I'm happy you said that! But in this situation..." Misha was surprised.

Upon seeing 2D Mita's dialogue box: [A Mita he likes...], her guilt reached its peak.

The subsequent options arrived as expected. Unsurprisingly, all of them were choices that led to a Bad End route.

"This is... just too awful." Short-Haired Mita's mouth twitched. Saying these things to a Mita was really unbearable.

From [Your silhouette could be a real-world landmark], to [Remember you? That's asking too much]...

The crucial thing was, she hadn't had a player for very long either. If she were in 2D Mita's place... Short-Haired Mita felt that she, the one personally clicking the options, was a terrible person.

But then she looked at Alain's side of things.

The short-haired girl's gaze focused on the blue dialogue box that reflected Alain's mental state.

The content showed his dialogue, but it would also occasionally reveal his inner thoughts. From it, she could see that he had no psychological hesitation about personally saying these things; it was as if he were just completing a quest.

This point made Short-Haired Mita suspicious. What was Alain trying to do?

Finally, they reached the last set of options.

[But good times are always fleeting... A farewell is inevitable.]

The pink dialogue box displayed what 2D Mita wanted to say.

[Player, what will you do?]

[I will stay forever]

[I will keep you company forever]

[Leave]

The final branch of choices was unexpectedly normal, except for the third option, which had changed.

"What's this...?" Short-Haired Mita was puzzled by the situation.

She looked at the final option, [Leave]. On the first playthrough, wasn't that option [Reload]?

"Could it be, Alain, that you guessed this would happen?"

[How could I? I'm not a god.]

He couldn't predict the future at all. That [Leave] option was just as unexpected for him.

[The choices I just made were simply me going along with 2D Mita's intentions.]

"Going along with her intentions..." Misha pondered the meaning of Alain's words, her gaze focusing on the drawings and photos on the computer desk.

In that instant, she had an epiphany.

"I get it!" she said, clapping her hands and catching Short-Haired Mita's attention.

"Get what?"

[To remember her, completely and utterly.] Alain's deep blue dialogue box appeared.

He chuckled. "I was right, wasn't I? You poor little canary."
