"Alain, tell her to use a Python script to modify and then batch-replace the variable names."
Millie seemed to be out playing with Miluo, as the background noise on the call was quite chaotic. But she still took the time to guide the 720 Safety Guard repair project for 2D Mita.
2D Mita seemed to have truly integrated into the Safety Guard, able to modify the system's code down to the smallest detail.
Misha and Short-Haired Mita listened to what Millie was saying on the side, offering some suggestions.
Alain, meanwhile, faithfully performed his job as a "translator": typing the content of 2D Mita's words into the computer's notepad to pass along to the other Mitas.
He felt like he was slacking off a bit… it was his system, after all.
But when he mentioned wanting to take on more work, this is what Misha said:
"Darling, you've always been the one helping us, right?" He couldn't forget the girl's radiant smile. "This time, it's our turn to help you!"
Short-Haired Mita and the others shared the same opinion: just let him handle some of the easier tasks.
Everyone… is so kind.
As the clock in the bottom-right corner of the computer ticked by, the Mitas couldn't help but let out a yawn.
Alain felt that this was the longest he had ever stayed in the game world at one time.
He had entered the dream world several times, and now he was modifying code.
It was nighttime when he left reality, but now the sky in Misha's background had already brightened.
"Done!"
Just as he was typing from muscle memory, so sleepy that a bubble was about to form, a particularly inspiring voice from his good sister burst his bubble.
His gaze shifted to the 720 Safety Guard panel.
The contents of the panel hadn't changed. The only difference was the nearly collapsed 2D Mita.
"So tired…"
Her eyes were vacant, looking like a pale soul was about to escape her body.
Alain could only offer some words of comfort, "You've worked hard."
"Not at all. This was for my sake, too."
"?" The moment she finished speaking, Alain noticed the 2D girl on the panel vanish without a trace.
"Pulling this trick again?" Alain's mouth twitched, and then he found himself in a chokehold.
"Why! Did! You! Say! 'Pulling this trick again'?"
That tone, and the distinctly different body fragrance… Alain thought of one person: 2D Mita.
Wait, isn't 2D Mita trapped inside the Safety Guard?
He turned his head to look and, sure enough, it was the girl with short twin-tails, indignantly holding him by the throat.
After a moment of playful roughhousing, she let go and began to explain, "With Miss Millie's help, I successfully—let myself out! And—" she hummed proudly, "Alain. Now, you really have to spend the rest of your life with me."
"…What?" he asked, confused.
And Millie's voice came slowly through the phone, "What she means is, 2D Mita can now freely travel between the Safety Guard and the game world, but her core self is still rooted in the Safety Guard, existing as something like… a system fairy."
"I see…" Short-Haired Mita looked at her thoughtfully. "So, in a sense, 2D Mita is the Safety Guard now?"
"Exactly! As soon as Alain gives the order, I'll have usage rights!" 2D Mita looked down her nose at him with an air of smug pride.
Alain retorted, "Why are you speaking in the future tense?"
"Because you haven't given me permission yet," 2D Mita said, holding out her hand to him.
Alain stared at her palm for more than ten seconds.
Getting no response, 2D Mita's face flushed red as she gazed at him pleadingly.
"Alain, can't you be a little faster? I'm a girl, you know!"
"I know, I know." The teasing meter was full. Granting usage rights was something he was very familiar with.
The Safety Guard's code was from the same source as the Mita world. Just as he could give the Mitas room usage rights, he could naturally grant permissions for the Safety Guard.
"Alright! Alain, you can now call me—" She crossed her arms and returned to the Safety Guard, "720 Safety Assistant!"
"Huh? Not Guard anymore?" The system was originally called 720 Safety [Guard].
"No, no, no… Don't you think the name [Guard] is too masculine? I'm a girl, you know!" 2D Mita was treating the Safety [Assistant] completely as her own home.
"…"
An assistant… that makes sense. It certainly has a more feminine feel now.
Alain thought back. He seemed to recall once complaining, "Safety Guard, you better not get turned into a girl."
He never expected that now, in a way, it really had been personified into a 'she'.
It even had a new name: 720 Safety Assistant.
"How about we just call it Secretary? What do you think?" Alain's suggestion was instantly rejected by Misha.
"No. You think I haven't heard that phrase?" The long-haired girl held up a finger. "When there's work, the secretary does it. When there's no work—"
"Darling, please don't say it…"
He didn't want his pure Misha to be tainted by such filth.
"Right, about the port issue." Alain's attention returned to the most critical matter at hand.
"On that point, you can rest assured." 2D Mita came and went as she pleased, reappearing from inside the Safety Guard before everyone.
"Originally, Miss Millie and I were struggling with how to handle the port issue." 2D Mita looked towards the girl holding the phone outside the screen.
"But when I was checking the Safety Guard's operation logs, I found a method that could serve as a perfect case study."
"You mean—" Alain thought of something.
"Create a smokescreen," Millie's serious tone was rare. "Alain, you were turned into a game cartridge by Crazy Mita before, right?"
"Yes. But that's all in the past." He was definitely going to bring Crazy Mita to the real world. If possible, he didn't want everyone to hate her because of that.
"At that time, the Safety Guard used false information to obscure the cartridge's point of view on Crazy Mita's end, thereby creating an information discrepancy. So, for the new Safety Assistant, we plan to do the same thing:"
Millie cleared her throat twice. "We'll put out information that's hard to verify, create a smokescreen, and cause an information discrepancy. This will… fully prepare us for the future confrontation with the owner of the unknown port!"
"That's not a bad idea at all!"
Alain agreed. Being able to advance without alerting the unknown enemy was the best possible scenario.
At this, Misha wore a mysterious smile. "Of course… once the defense and security aspects are handled, the offense can't be neglected either."
"What do you mean?" he asked, looking quizzically at the riddle-speaking Misha.
It was 2D Mita who picked up the thread. "From now on, I will start trying to crack the unknown information-receiving port, to prepare for a real counter-attack and catch it completely off guard!"
The Mitas looked at Alain, and Alain looked back at them.
"We're not far from the True Ending."
