Chapter 535: Greed Leads to Grief
At that moment, Tauros, entirely focused on Little Eevee sticking its tongue out, was completely unaware that the real danger was rapidly approaching from behind!
Even Anderson hadn't anticipated the threat in time.
When he saw the opposing Leafeon use Grass Knot, he guessed that the opponent might target his isolated Tauros. But since Arthur hadn't brought out any new Pokémon, Anderson hesitated for a split second.
He was already holding Tauros's Poké Ball in his hand!
But in the end, he misjudged the situation and got greedy. "Tauros, use Rock Slide!"
Tauros's cooldown was up. The Horn Attack it used during the initial charge with Sirfetch'd was just a minor move with a short recovery time. Tauros was the first Pokémon on the field to recover from its initial move! It could attack again!
The power boost from Anger Point was gradually fading under the effect of Haze, and Anderson hated to miss this excellent opportunity for damage output.
So, even though he vaguely suspected Arthur would target his Tauros, he didn't recall it immediately. Instead, out of greed for damage, he ordered Tauros to unleash a Rock Slide!
Just this one move! Just one! I'll recall him right after Rock Slide ends!
Anderson's fingers clenched around the Poké Ball!
Massive rocks appeared out of thin air, hurled by Tauros towards Little Eevee, Specter, Old Flame, and even Little Lapras in the back! Rock Slide was an area-of-effect move, after all.
But right then, seizing the moment when Tauros was stationary, casting its move with its legs bound by grass ropes, Arthur flashed forward and appeared behind it!
When the Anger Point ability is activated, the Pokémon's weak point becomes even more exposed than before!
At this moment, a distinct indentation appeared on the arched muscles of Tauros's back, near its tail.
That's the spot!
Arthur's aim was true, his focus steady!
Anderson had relied on luck, assuming his Tauros was safe since Arthur hadn't summoned a new Pokémon. This clearly showed he didn't understand Arthur's fighting style well enough.
Little did he know, the true terror had already closed in behind Tauros, just a few meters from its death spot.
Taking a deep breath, Arthur turned sideways, widening his stance, pulling his body back like a drawn bow, gathering strength to the limit.
Then, he exploded forward, taking a step and striking!
Tauros, still happily hurling rocks, suddenly stiffened! A massive sense of crisis washed over it like a tidal wave! Yet, it couldn't figure out where the danger was coming from.
Until a fist, carrying the force of a battering ram, slammed into the death spot on its back with all of Arthur's might!
THUD!
In the distance, Anderson, sitting on his Rhyhorn, suddenly shuddered. Tauros had just sent a terrified scream through their telepathic link, startling him.
What's going on?
He was confused—the opponent hadn't brought out any new Pokémon!
Because of the distance, the angle, and the black fog obscuring his view, Anderson didn't immediately realize the horror of Arthur's punch.
It wasn't until Tauros slid forward a good distance from the impact, snapping all the grass ropes, stumbled left, then right, staggering back and forth like a drunkard, and finally collapsed headfirst, its front legs giving out.
Only then did Anderson realize something was wrong.
"F*ck, what happened?!"
Why did my Tauros go down?! My Tauros, with Anger Point activated, the core of my team, my main damage dealer, just went down?! What just happened?!
Meanwhile, Arthur silently retracted his fist, shook his hand, and calmly continued to give orders. "Little Eevee, use Synthesis on yourself in a moment. Little Lapras, keep using Ice Beam to support Specter in the distance."
After throwing the punch, his commands continued without pause. Aside from slightly heavy breathing at the start, his tone returned to normal—quick, steady, and orderly. The whole process was smooth and uninterrupted, as natural as if he had just done something trivial.
However, Tauros, kneeling on the ground with its front legs bent, thought differently!!
Its bull eyes were wide, almost the size of copper bells!
Although the Anger Point ability did come with the negative effect of creating an extra weak point, making it easier for opponents to land critical hits...
Still, for a human to knock it out with a single punch to the point where it couldn't stand up! That was too exaggerated!!
Tauros tried hard to deny this reality, but waves of intense pain mixed with the weakness from the critical hit kept washing over it, preventing its powerless front legs from straightening.
In this moment, Tauros felt the world was so magical and unreal!
Forrest, watching from the jeep behind, felt the same way.
Sitting in the driver's seat, Forrest had already taken out his Poké Ball, ready to support Arthur at any moment. But now, his hand froze in mid-air holding the ball.
Did I see that wrong just now? he wondered.
Even with a critical hit bonus, can a human fist really knock an enraged Tauros to its knees? Am I hallucinating? Or is something wrong with this world?
Is the person in front of me really the Arthur I know? Or is it a Zoroark using its Illusion ability to transform into a human?
And Forrest suspected: This Zoroark must have used Swords Dance at least three times!
Sirfetch'd, currently being intercepted by Specter, had similar thoughts. It had even taken the initiative to use the move Foresight on Arthur without waiting for its master's command!
But nothing happened...
This result left Sirfetch'd bewildered.
Am I hallucinating? Or is something wrong with this world?
It suddenly felt the world was so magical and unreal.
Anderson still didn't know what had happened, feeling both confused and angry at Sirfetch'd for using a move without permission. "What are you doing, Sirfetch'd?!"
But half a second later, Sirfetch'd asked him a question through their telepathic link that almost stumped him.
"Master, are there mutant individuals among your human species too?"
"???"
Anderson was completely confused.
Until the next moment, when Arthur decisively abandoned the heavily injured Tauros, which had essentially lost its combat ability, and charged toward Sirfetch'd, who was riding on the Braviary not far away.
Only then did Anderson realize something was wrong!
The boy from the Kubfu Alliance he was fighting wasn't sending out new Pokémon; he was charging in himself?
