Laffitte pulled a dazed Blackbeard from the cement floor.
"Captain, are you alright?" Lafitte asked.
"Quick... get me out of here!" Blackbeard gasped, his voice weak.
As Laffitte prepared to carry him away, a familiar, booming voice echoed, making everyone present freeze.
"Ace... why are you smiling? Shouldn't you call your grandpa a 'stinky old man' when you see him?"
It was Garp. He roared and threw a punch at Ace's head, but midway through his swing, he suddenly ducked and lunged toward Blackbeard.
Blackbeard's eyes widened in disbelief.
"This can't be over yet, right?" he thought, trying to flee. But Garp's speed was immense, and his fist connected with Blackbeard.
Blackbeard knew the terrifying power of Garp. Already severely injured and on the verge of death, he was certain this blow would kill him.
"Help... somebody help me..." Blackbeard cried out in a moment of despair, his mind flashing back to his days with the Whitebeard Pirates.
Just as Garp's fist was about to strike, two figures suddenly appeared. One whisked Blackbeard away, while the other tried to block Garp's attack.
Both men were wearing suits and had emotionless facesâmembers of the World Government's intelligence agency, CP0. The one who carried Blackbeard to safety was fine, but the one who blocked Garp's punch was instantly obliterated. His body was a mangled mess as he was flung away like a torn sack.
Seeing the CP0 agent try to escape with Blackbeard, Garp scratched the back of his head, looking embarrassed. "Oh... I guess I'm getting old! I can't even hit a guy standing waist-high anymore!"
The other CP0 agent's face darkened, but he didn't forget his mission. "Fleet Admiral Sengoku, the Five Elders command you to publicly execute the descendant of the Pirate King, 'Fire Fist' Ace, as soon as possible!"
Sengoku took a deep breath. "I will investigate Ace's true identity promptly. If he is truly the son of Gol D. Roger, I will show no mercy!"
"Good! Remember what you said!" the agent replied. He shot Garp a cold glance before leaving with Blackbeard and his severely injured comrade.
After they left, Ace looked at Garp and Sengoku. "Grandpa, Mr. Sengoku, I'm sorry for causing you so much trouble!"
Sengoku was taken aback by Garp's grandson's politeness.
"Hey! Are you really Ace?" Garp asked, scrutinizing Ace's face in disbelief.
Later, after Ace was imprisoned and the others returned to Sengoku's office, Admiral Aokiji spoke. "Mr. Garp, Fleet Admiral Sengoku, there's something else I need to report. We only captured half of Ace!"
Aokiji then explained what had happened earlier and the information Ace provided about the Tiger Talisman.
"So there's a rogue 'evil Ace' out at sea?" Sengoku quickly pieced the story together, his expression one of shock. It was the first time he'd ever heard of such a thing as a talisman that could split a person into good and evil.
"Then should we hunt down the 'evil Ace' and make him whole again?" Garp asked, frowning. He didn't know the side effects of the Tiger Talisman but was concerned about the fate of his kind-hearted grandson.
"No!" Sengoku immediately rejected Garp's idea. "Since the 'evil Ace' is still out there, let him cause trouble! If possible," Sengoku looked at Garp, "Garp, you should find the 'evil Ace' and encourage him to cause a huge ruckus across the seas, all in the name of the son of the Pirate King. The bigger the spectacle, the better! Then we'll use that to justify why we must rescue our 'good' Ace!"
Garp instantly understood Sengoku's strategy.
As for the other admirals, Kizaru didn't care because he wouldn't get overtime pay, and Aokiji, with his deep connection to Garp, was more than willing to help.
"Right! One more thing!" Aokiji added. "Blackbeard. I accidentally injured him earlier and pierced his heart, but... he didn't die. I suspect there's something special about him." Aokiji recalled the moment he'd impaled Blackbeard with a spear of ice.
"He's certainly not simple," Sengoku said grimly. "To survive one of your attacks... it seems I'll have to look for an opportunity to 'accidentally' hurt him again soon."
Meanwhile, on Sky Island, a bonfire party was in full swing.
The flames attracted a pack of nearby wolves. They weren't super large, but they were remarkably intelligent, with a social system, the ability to use tools, and even communicate with each other.
As Luffy put it, "Any smart guy would never pass up a bonfire party!"
And so, the wolves began to play with the Straw Hat Pirates. After everyone was exhausted, they fell asleep right where they were.
Later that night, Ikki and Usopp were awoken by the sound of dolphins, along with the distinct noises of footsteps and a hammer striking wood.
Ikki's eyes shot open. "It's happening! The Going Merry is awake!" he whispered.
Usopp also woke up, and after an exchange of glances, they both made their way toward the ship, which was still sitting on the altar. A thick fog surrounded the Merry, making it hard to see, but they could just make out a small figure in a raincoat hammering away at the hull.
Usopp rubbed his eyes. "Ikki, am I seeing things?" he asked. "Is someone on our crew really working late into the night to repair the ship? I'd think it would be Brother Sabo."
Ikki didn't listen to Usopp's theory. He used his Whirlwind technique to quickly reach the Merry. Seeing this, Usopp took out his bamboo-copter and followed. He was determined to find out who was helping to repair their ship.
When they boarded the Merry, the fog dissipated, and the small figure with the hammer vanished.
"Hey? What's going on?" Usopp asked, confused, as he looked at the half-repaired ship.
