Chapter 1 - prologue

MITCH

I stared at the girl as she sat quietly with her friends. Viana Wayne. Born in the year 1989 and will be 23 in March; a final year student in Stanford college. The last daughter of Mr Wayne; my enemy and at the same time, my Friend.

I stared at her from my table, scrutinizing her carefully. Perfect blond hair unlike Mr Wayne's dark brown hair, hazel eyes, perfectly framed face, plump and full lips; she looked nothing like her father. She did not bare a even a slight resemblance to her mother too. I tilted my head sideways as I watched her. A thought hit me but before I could delve into it, I noticed something unusual going on at her table.

She had her hands in her bag, searching for something. With all of her attention on what she was doing, she failed to notice that her friends were putting something in her drink. I saw them smile to themselves and I knew it was bad. What were they doing?

I looked at her friends properly and instantly recognized them; Shally Moncada, Mitchelle Rodeghier and Heather Hicks; all of them daughter's of her father's business partners. I scoffed. Of course they'd all move together.

But I was intrigued. I leaned forward on my table, swirling the drink I had ordered earlier. It was a pineapple drink. What was I thinking? I hated pineapples.

My attention solely on the girls, I tried to figure out what they were trying to do. Were they going to drug her? Or was it a dare. Fancy kids and their deadly dares. Viana, unconscious of what was going on around her, say straight on her seat having found what she was searching for. The other girls giggled and Viana gave them a questioning look. They immediately smothered their smile before she could become suspicious.

In their haste to hid the stuff they'd put in her drink, it fell to the ground. My eyes zoned in on the name of the drug before they could pick it up. My eyes widened and I paler a little. The drug would keep her drowsy. They were either going to play tricks on her or set her up to be raped. Nothing was beyond these rich girls.

She was probably going to have one of the worst days of her life. I thought about helping her. The Bastard in me started reminding me of everything her father had done to me and why I should not help her. She should have a little taste of the hell I had gone through.

I mentally shook my head. No, she did not deserve to have her life ruined because of the Sins of her father. Even I wasn't cruel enough to hurt this soul. I thought of a way to turn the situation around.

An idea pooped up in my head and I smirked. Well, she was in for some drama. Turning on my boy charm, I stood up and walked over to their table. Her drink was close to the edge of the table so one hit should do the job. I pulled my phone out and pretended as if I was on a call so as to make it more believable. When I got close enough, I staggered a little and crashed into their table, discreetly swiping her drink to the ground.

"Oh, shit," I caed out, stepping back a little to prevent the drink from splashing on me. I shook my hand out, getting rid of the remnants of the drink while signaling to the waiter to come over.

"who the fuck do you think you are?" Heather spoke out, enraged. I looked up slowly and she froze. I rolled my eyes internally. Of course, she'd recognize me. The three of them were involved in their father's shady business. They knew I was not to be played with. Slowly, recognition crossed the eyes of the remaining two girls. Only Viana did not recognize me. She was the only one kept separate from the business. Which was why I was intrigued.

"Mr Lan, I did not realize it was you." Heather said, stammering. I raised a brow at her. Spoiled little brat. I ignored her and turned to Viana who was looking at me curiously.

"i think it was your drink I spilled. Let me get you a new one." I said, looking into her eyes. She shrugged and turned back to her phone. I heard the other girls gasp. They probably wouldn't ignore me if I talked to them. I smiled. She really did not know who I was.

I drew out a chair for myself, feeling more entertained than usual. She lifted her head again to look at me and I smirked at her. Girls usually fought for my attention but this one here seemed impervious to it. I turned to the other girls and they quickly lowered their eyes. Thy knew better than to offend me. They knew what was at stake unlike Viana.

"You must be Viana Wayne," I said, staring at her. I was hoping to get her attention and also make it known to the other girls that I had interest in her. They should know better than to set her up now.

"How do you know me?" She asked, eyeing me suspiciously. He girl definitely had balls. I have to give her that.

I stared at her for a second or two. She was beautiful. This was the closest to her I had ever gotten. She had a line of freakles that went straight to the top of her shirt. This made me wonder if she had more of those freakles down her breast. How I would like to figure that out.

Wait, where the hell did that thought come from? Heat the hell was I thinking about? My mind was wandering and I did not like it. Not one bit.

" I'm a friend of yours father, Mr Wayne." I replied to her question. Immediately, her face paled and she looked away from me. Guess she knew that much about her father's business.

The waiter returned and broke the awkward silence, setting her drink in front of her. It was then that my phone rang. It was Beck, my personal assistant. I picked the call before it could go to voicemail.

" We have found his location sir." He informed me.

"I'll be there in a minute." I replied, ending the phone call.

"Well, if you ladies will excuse me …", I stood up and gave the other girls a pointed look that had them flushing. I turned my back and head out of the restaurant. I could feed eyes on me but I did not turn back.

I had work to do. Playtime was over.
