Chapter 11 - Spell Practice

After breakfast, Ryan accompanied his grandfather to the field for inspection. He helped water the crops and then sent his grandfather home before running towards the nearby mountain valley.

While running, he noticed his speed was faster than before and concluded that his body had strengthened significantly as a result of reaching the qi realm.

In a few minutes, he sprinted to the valley. Ryan looked around for any signs of people or animals but found nothing except a few trees.

So, Ryan breathed a sigh of relief and sat on the nearby flat rock after dusting it.

Then, Ryan began to recall the spell formulas and their hand signs needed to perform them.

Qi realm practitioners can't cast spells directly, as they can't project spirit Qi outside their bodies like foundation realm masters. Instead, they make hand signs discreetly to guide the spirit Qi within their bodies and achieve the desired spell effect.

First, Ryan selected a few easy-to-learn spells from the pile of spells he had in his mind.

After much deliberation, Ryan selected one spell from each elemental type and stood up.

First, he closed his eyes to gather his concentration and began sensing his qi spirit energy in the body.

When he felt he was ready to perform a spell, he started doing hand signs which directed the spirit qi in his body to rush out and disperse into the surroundings as Ryan, in excitement, forgot to perform the last steps.

This proved that Ryan was ready to perform the spell but did the steps wrong at the last, which made the spell fail.

Ryan learned from his mistake, adjusted his mood, and focused on performing the spell again. Soon, the spirit energy began to boil, but this time, Ryan completed the steps and executed the spell correctly.

As soon as the execution of the spell was done, Ryan pointed his finger at the tree and recited vine entanglement.

As soon the word left his mouth, a vine with the width of a baby's arm grew from the bottom of the tree and entangled the tree tightly.

Ryan was thrilled to finally perform the spell correctly, as he didn't expect to succeed in just a few tries. He walked over to the tree and saw that the vines had tightly wrapped around it. If anyone had been there, they would have been bound in seconds without any resistance.

Ryan checked his body to calculate the remaining amount of spirit qi after performing his spell and was shocked to find that his spirit qi, which had been depleted by a quarter, had replenished, and his body was full of energy again within minutes.

Ryan pondered the reason for the replenishment of spirit qi and couldn't think of anything other than the fortune cauldron. Only it could continuously supply energy and discreetly replenish his energy.

Ryan was thrilled when he discovered that the fortune cauldron could provide him with unlimited energy, as he, unlike others, couldn't use the usual techniques to recharge his spent energy, which would be fatal during battles.

With renewed spirits, Ryan performed the vine entanglement spell on the poor tree for few times and covered the tree bark with vines.

Ryan, feeling extremely proud of his artwork, shifted his attention to the rock next to him and decided to use the next spell on it.

For the next spell, Ryan decides to try the golden element spell, which is called golden beam, which has limited usage to kill spirit insects in the fields.

Unlike normal insects, the spirit insects were those which has induced spirit qi into their bodies and evolved into monster and they try further evolving by sucking the juice of spirit tree.

The farmers in the cultivation world usually use this spell to kill them and make their farms pest-free.

Although cultivators refer to them as insects because they can kill them easily, to mortals and martial artists, they are still lethal monsters capable of causing death.

Ryan focused intensely and carefully performed the signs, successfully casting the spell on the first attempt. He pointed his finger at the center of the rock.

A small beam gathered at his fingertips, and when he aimed at the rock, it shot out at incredible speed and collided with it.

There was no collision sound or explosion when the rock hit, but it formed a small depression at the point of contact, and a small hole with a width of just half a centimeter and 5 cm depth was visible on the rock.

Ryan was pleased with the result after inspecting the hole and thought it might come in handy to protect himself when he eventually left the village to explore the outside world.

Then he started to check the next spell and eagerly got ready to try after seeing it was a beginner fireball spell.

Ryan, who had read many novels, always fancied about throwing fireballs and slowly executed the spell and found that the spirit qi gathered in his hand and slowly a fireball formed.

Although Ryan had fire in his hand, it didn't burn his hand as there was a layer of spirit energy protecting his hand from burning.

Ryan played with the fire ball in his hand for few seconds and threw it at the rock with great force.

The fireball shot out like a cannonball, smashing into the rock with a loud boom. A large pit formed, and the rock disintegrated into a pile of dust.

Ryan finally understood why the golden beam is only designated as a pest killer for beginner practitioners: because the fireball is their primary weapon for attacking enemies.

As the Sound of him practicing his spell was too loud, Ryan walked out of the valley and saw no one come to check the sound as the place is too far from the village and the sound might have been heard until the villagers working in the fields.

Ryan returned to the valley and noticed small fires still flickering in various spots. Realizing they could grow into a larger blaze if ignored, he decided to extinguish them using the spirit rain technique.

Ryan hastily performed the required signs and executed the spirit rain technique. This gathered the surrounding moisture, forming a small rain that covered about an acre of field. The rain slowly extinguished the fire and created small puddles in the pits formed by the bombardment of the fireball spell.

Ryan noticed the light rain and observed that it contained rich spirit energy, and Ryan understood why the spirit farmer used the spell to water their spirit plants.

Using the spell to water the field daily will surely make the plants grow abundantly and yield a double harvest.

Finally, Ryan cast the last spell, earth manipulation. As he used it, he realized he could control small sections of the ground to create or close pits and prepare fields for planting trees.

While he's unsure why beginner spells mostly focus on farming, he found it incredibly useful, as it allows him to grow more food and improve his living conditions.
