Chapter 20 - A Deal with the Lord

The chief was led to the waiting room and asked to wait. A maid came and served him tea.

As the village chief enjoyed his tea, the lord of the town burst into the waiting hall and flung open the door with a bang. In a hurry, he walked in and sat opposite the village chief.

The lord was tall and strong, with a few white hairs on top of his head, having just crossed the prime of his age. The maid poured a cup of tea for him and left the room silently. He hurriedly picked up the tea, drank it in a few big gulps to moisten his throat, and then waited for the chief to speak.

By now, you should know my name and details, so I'll get straight to the point without beating around the bush.

"I don't know why you partnered with the town gangs and devised this banditry plan, but I demand you return all the village's stolen money, except for the usual tax, which I don't care about," the village chief warned sternly.

"Even though I'm retired, I still have many connections from my time on duty. I can send a letter and have you removed from your position within a few months," the chief said.

The Lord sweated a little and agreed to his demand, knowing that what the person in front of him said was true.

The chief felt pleased as the Lord easily agreed to his demands and placed a cloth bag on the table in front of him.

"Although I'm not sure why you need money urgently, I can offer you a chance to earn it legally."

"You should have connections with people on the other side of the world, right? The bag contains a few spells they need, and you can sell them at your discretion. However, I want one gold coin for each spell seed."

The Lord was perplexed, having never heard of such a thing before of spell seeds and feeling skeptical about them.

Noticing the Lord's disbelief, the chief asked to see his garden and carried the bag as they walked there.

Once there, the chief took out a spell seed and asked the Lord to choose a target for testing. The Lord selected a sturdy tree and stepped back a bit.

The chief concentrated his internal energy at his fingertips and flicked the seed at the tree, which shattered on impact. Soon, a massive vine plant was summoned, wrapping around the tree like a giant snake.

"You should have seen the power of the spell during testing. I'll give you 20 spells to start with; you can get about 50 to 100 spell seeds per month. Let me know after you've sold them through your channels, and if you want more, you'll need to book them one month in advance," the chief said, handing him a bag containing 20 spells.

The lord immediately cried with gratitude for the chance at redemption and began explaining his reasons for taking such extreme measures.

A few months ago, he discovered his son had immortal roots and wanted to send him to the sects or the empire capital to become a cultivator. However, he found out that his son's qualifications were the worst, and no one accepted him. He needed a huge amount of money for his son's practice, and his attempt to gather funds led to the robbery.

The chief, who knew the reason, asked the lord to calm down and said he understood why an honest lord had become corrupt. He warned him never to do it again and asked him to send the money to the village after selling the items, then left the town mansion.

The village chief visited various merchants, showcasing the spell seeds and their simple usage. The product quickly became popular among the wealthy in the town.

In the evening, the chief heard that the bandits had escaped from the guards who were detaining them. He didn't think much of it and went to the town entrance, where he found the villagers waiting with a carriage fully loaded with their purchases. He joined them and began his return journey.

------------Ryan Pov-----

By the time the repairs in the house were completed, it was already evening. The workers went home after doing a final check on the patches that were placed. Ryan decided to start the spell seed manufacturing the next morning to earn enough money to buy a piece of land in the village center and build a new house.

Then Ryan started cleaning all the dust left behind after the repair of the house was done.

The sun has set by the time the entire house was cleaned, and Ryan once again threw the dirt in his backyard and saw the backyard was starting to look like a mini-Dump-yard.

He then bathed to clean himself of the dirt and sweat from his body and thought how he wished he had learned the cleansing spell which just a small spell he can remove dirt and stains from himself and any other items he wishes.

He got a headache thinking about how many spells he had to learn and master. Now, he had promised the village chief that he would supply the spell seeds for sale to earn money and lead a good life. This commitment has reduced the time he could dedicate to practice, increasing the time required to achieve mastery of the spells.

Ryan decided to forget about all the things which were unsolvable for today and decided to have a good lunch and nice sleep for now.

He then went to help his grandfather prepare the food. After eating, he spent some time meditating before going to sleep for the night.

The next morning, he woke up and heard the village chief and the villagers have returned to the village safely at the night and they went back to their houses afterwards to rest.

So, Ryan decided to meet the village chief and ask how many vacant are available in the village and cost of their purchase.

As he walked to the village market, he noticed the villagers gathered around a few carriages, unloading supplies and distributing according to the one who has ordered the purchase in an orderly manner.

Ryan found the chief and talked to him about the purchase of the house and found that there is a abandoned small villa that was built by a noble for his pleasure which is still in pristine condition in a nearby valley which is near their farm and asked if you want you can move there, and there is another small house at the village center which can accommodate family of three which can be bought if he likes it.

Ryan asked if he could see the villa and the house before deciding, and the chief agreed, asking him to wait until all his work was completed.
