Eliana walked toward the living room, expecting maybe one of their neighbors or some surprise visitor he was too cheerful about. But when she stepped inside, she stopped dead in her tracks.
On the sofa sat Dana, her only friend from the firm, her hand waving excitedly the moment she saw her. Beside her, holding a box, was Alfonso.
The last time she had seen him was in Paris. She should have expected he would end up back here eventually.
"Ellie!" Dana jumped up, rushing over to hug her tight. "Oh my God, it's been forever. You look amazing!"
Eliana forced a smile, hugging her back. "Dana… wow. I wasn't expecting this."
Dana stepped back, practically glowing, her hand immediately flashing the ring on her finger. "I had to come. I couldn't just send this in the mail."
She held up a small stack of invitations. "Jay and I are getting married! And of course, I wanted you to have yours in person."
