The next morning, Zoe wakes up to Madison nudging her arm. "Hey, girl." Suddenly, Zoe realizes it's eerily quiet. "They're never this quiet," Zoe mutters. "Something's up." She turns to look at Kat's bed but Kat isn't there. Zoe walks downstairs and looks around. "No one's here." In all, the apartment was small. It had 3 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. The living room was big enough to consist of a small couch and a few wooden chairs for seating arrangements. Suddenly she notices a small movement behind the counter in the kitchen, instantly snapping her from her thoughts. She walks towards the kitchen then suddenly, everyone jumps out. She jumps slightly. "Happy birthday." They cheer, clearly happy with themselves. "Seriously?" Zoe asks, clearly not in the mood. "You guys didn't have to do any of this, you know." "We wanted to." Addi chimes in. Zoe can't help but roll her eyes at Addi's comment. "You guys know I don't like celebrating." Cam grins. "We know." Zoe grabs food and water for Madison before walking back upstairs.
~later~
Zoe is sitting in the living room, Madison lying asleep in her lap while she writes in her journal. "What was that earlier? Everybody worked so hard and you just walked out. That was rude Zoe." Zoe doesn't have to turn to know who it is. Katelynn. "What's wrong Zoe?" Zoe stays quiet for a moment before turning to look at Katelynn. "I'm sorry Kat, I am. I just don't like celebrating my birthday." "Why?" Katelynn demands, standing in front of where Zoe sits so Zoe can't walk away. "Things in the past," Zoe answers vaguely. Katelynn sighs. "I'm serious Zoe. Be more specific and tell me what's going on." "I am too Kate. I'm being totally and completely serious," Zoe insists. "If you don't tell me I'll…" Katelynn goes quiet, thinking. "I'll tell Cam you're being difficult." Zoe can't help but glare at Katelynn. "As if I'm scared of what Cam's gonna think." Zoe gets up off the couch, picks up Madison, and walks away. "Zoe," Katelynn begs. "You know who to come to if you need to talk, okay?" Zoe scoffs. "Yea, sure, mhm. Got it." "Zoe," Katelynn yells but Zoe walks up the stairs to their shared bedroom as Katelynn follows. Once inside the room, Zoe practically slams the door in Katelynn's face without another word.
